"Depressive atmosphere of hopelessness and despair"
Put that on the box and this thing will sell! ;)

But seriously, this looks really intresting! Good luck!

If some erks don't read the text it's not long before they know what's going on  (nod)

Then maybe there's not much need for all that text?

This was really a hard one!

Idea: Kastchey
Atmosphere: Kastchey- it's absolutly magical!
Design: Miez
Composition: Miez
Functionality: Kasander
Technique : Kasander

@Snarky: Thanks for the comments and critique! I use layers, but this was my first time painting clouds, and I guess I thought it would add some depth to do the horizon a bit blurry. And also I was a bit sloppy round the house. But I totally agree with you, leaving white spots seldom looks good.
#246
Wow! Kasander and Miez, both your backgrounds look great! And Miez, I hope you'll finish it because it looks like it could be awesome!
#247
Ok. So here it is.
I had some fun doing this, trying out some new techniques. Although I sometimes wonder if I'm suffering from some kind of anti-saturation disease. Good thing I added the red sign!

"Where's the old time religion!?" I hear you ask. "What! Can't you see the Voodoo-cross!".
Maybe not the most well thought design, but once I got started, I couldn't stop.
Hope you like it!

Yeah I'm also working on an entry. Hopefully I'll be done friday night, and if I'm not I'll probably post what I've done anyway.

That school was $400 dollars, lol.

What!? I've must have messed up the link.

edit:
Yeah that was clearly not the right link. Let me see if I can find the one I was thinking of.

The new version looks really good btw! Great progress! The room has much more character now!
Just a question about the lanterns. Are they hanging from the roof or are they mounted on the walls? Because right now it looks like a bit of both.

I hope my comment didn't put you down!
I just remember going through the same thing and realising I need to learn how to do it with a pen and paper before doing it in photoshop. Just to be sure of what I was trying to accomplish.
And the base of your background is really good! So don't be to hard on yourself.
i remember someone posting this link http://www.schoolism.com/school.php?id=3 to the forums a while a go, and I thought it was really good. Keep on keeping on!

It feels a bit like your trying to put the light ON the image instead of IN the image. Remember that light is reflection, and is rarely visible in the air, so to speak.
My best tip would be to turn of the lights in your room and light a candle. Then just have a look around on what happens to the coulours of the room.
It feels like your looking for an easy solution for putting lights and shadows in a room, but there's no ssuch thing. You can work with multiply, burn, fill layers and whatever, but the best way to learn, in my opinion, is to choose a brush, pick a colour and then PAINT on the shadows and light.
If you look in your first posted bg, you've already started on the shadowing with the different coulours of the wall, the panels on the wall, the door frames. Start from there and you can do wonders!

Love the last screen of the whole city. Beautiful!

I'll give it a shot to. Chances are I won't be able to help myself and probably do more then one character. Sorry.

Hello!
I'm Lasca and I've been using AGS for about a year, but just recently started to post in the forums, and even more recently (just 5 minutes ago!) found this thread, so an intrpduction felt in order.
I'm 27 years old and live in Sweden. I work as an theatre actor and director, but during spring this year I'm home with my baby daughter. You might think that would leave a lot of time for game creation. Alas, no.

Anyway, for about 30 minutes a day I try not to work on the two other, much better games I came up with after starting to work on this:
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=47100.0
This is my first game, which I've been working on for... some time. And will complete before summer.

Before starting off on this game I knew (almost) nothing of creating visual art or scripting, and although I feel I'm making good progress in the art department, programming is harder for me. I make things work (usually because of the ags wiki, the manual or these forums. Thanks!), but I always have this lingering feeling that I don't fully understand exactly what I'm doing. Anyways.
I love adventure games and I love working with AGS. This is a really nice forum with a (usually) civil and friendly tone, so I'll be around some more. Hope to see you!
Thanks for making me feel welcome even without knowing it.

Really looks awesome.

Looks like fun!
I like the style.

A friend told me once that I should write down everything about myself that I was angry of, regretted, wanted to change etc. And then imagine my 8 year old self. and then imagine my present self scolding my 8 year old self for all those things. And then see if it felt fair. His point was that people are to hard on them self.
After I'd done it and felt like I wanted to cry he told me to imagine my 8 year old self telling my present self that it was allright.
I don't usually believe in this sort of crap, but that actually made me feel a bit better. Specially in situations when I felt I was making an ass of myself.

Hello!
I agree with Iceboty about the windows. Perhaps you could as some reflection on them, from the light inside the train. And maybe some more work on the different textures of the background? And some more details inside the train. Bagagerack (if thats the word) above the windows, an emergencybrake, trashcans, non-smoking sign. Stuff like that.
Otherwise I really like the bg to. I like your palette and overall the use of colours.
More bgs with snow I say!
#259
Oh. But maybe it's supposed to hover. Then, my bad.
#260
I actually liked the feel of the paper more in the coloured version then the sepia one. I like that you get more of the texture.
And I would take a look at the shadowing of the feather pen. It feels a bit like it's hovering.
But overall a really nice title screen!
