Count me interested. I would love to visit Boston.

I will be in Europe so theoretically I could make it, but not that weekend. If it were the 30th sept, 1st and 2nd October, I probably could.
#23
I'll go. :)
My vote would be either Melbourne or perhaps northern Queensland, like Ayrlie Beach or something.

You could probably speed up your render by reducing the number of light bouncing and only render with full ray tracing when you are happy with the DoF.

Thanks :)

UE4 exports to PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox One, PS4, Android & iOS.

It's $19USD to subscribe & that gets you the full engine and source code. Royalties to Epic are 5% of the sale price. You can unsubscribe at any time and keep the engine & code - what I have been doing is only getting the latest version every 3 or so months.

Unity does have advantages in its extensive marketplace, that the base version is free. Unity has more options for scripting, Unreal gives you the choice of Blueprints or C++. I so far have not found anything that I could not do via Blueprints, however code would obviously be more efficient.

That looks pretty neat, man. Especially the blue cup :-)

I believe Obduction is being made with Unreal Engine 4.

Thanks! Obduction certainly is using UE4. I was never a huge fan of Myst, however it does look very nice.

Oh man I wish I could share what I'm working on at the moment...

Needless to say; this looks great!

Good to "see" you too man (nod)

Now you've got my curiosity Darth. :)

Wow, all in 8 hours? The camera moves and character animation really tie it together. Would love to see a little game with a couple of rooms and some moody dialogue. Keep us updated Layabout, good to see you posting!

Also quite excited to hear what Darth is working on ;)

Yup. 8 hours with a few coffee breaks in between and some fighting with getting the control scheme to work.

I'm glad you like the camera moves, however I can't take credit for the character animation (they are included in the starter content), however I did model and animate the fan (it's a little rough around the edges but it did the job to add a bit of interest to an otherwise bland scene. I do plan to make a few other templates for camera styles. Static Cameras are straightforward, but a dolly camera would be good for street locations.

It's a testament to your system that I tried to click on the mug when it lit up.

Glad you liked my quick and dirty UI example. I'd probably be more inclined to do something a bit more telltale-ish, but it is just a material, so it can be changed in an instant.

It's all using the Unreal Blueprint visual scripting - no text code at all. :)

So for years after falling off the radar, I still love this community. You guys rock and I have a lot of legitimate friends from here.

I subscribed to UE4 a few months ago, as I still like to play around with game concepts (although terrible at completing thing).

In about 8 hours of messing around, I made a rather good (in my opinion) of replicating the gameplay feel of grim fandango (with a few modern aspects).

Ui system is totally incomplete. A basic inventory system and item pick up mechanics is next on the agenda. Point and click interface as opposed to "tank" controls should be easy enough to implement quickly.

I am happy you guys get to finally announce this. I know the effort and time you have dedicated to building this world will finally pay off.

I wanna go to New Orleans. This plan sounds amazing. We should do July 4 there too since I can imagine that would be an awesome time.

Did you ever leave Mr Janitor?

Hawaii would be cool for next year. We could search for Cornjob and the mystery of Run Hot.

I really liked the refraction technique used when walking past the glass bottle things in the Reaper. I loved the story, but I already know a few things (BOGAN SECRETS).

I'm still up for voicing you know who ;)

Sounds like fun, I'll give it a shot.

I wish I could but since I missed out originally I've just not saved enough. :(

Rule 34 might be true, but some of the stuff seems impossible to find. :(

That is when Rule 35 is applied.

:(

Sad but true. Good to meet Ben Chandler Sweets Tin 304 & Dane "Krams Design" Krams for the first time and always a pleasure hanging out with Grundislav.

So what happened was this. April 1 I found a Grundislav at Brisbane Airport like a sad little kitty waiting for a new home. I took him back to mine and we went out for lunch. We had some beers to celebrate the start of something a little bit bogan. Later that evening we took to the city to partake in cheap steak at the beach house (not actually a house, or located near a beach). then it was off for a bit of awful live music at Irish Murphy's.

The next day Grundislav went off for an adventure in WA whilst I had to work. :(

I'm sure they can fill you in on that part of the adventure.

On Wednesday 10th of April I boarded a flight to Sydney, Australia. The base of operations for Bogans week two. We saw sights, we found our own local pub, in-jokes were continued (of which I had to come up to speed with) and new in-jokes were created. Our diet consisted of a healthy stream of pasta, pie-face, beer and coca-cola (which 304 informed us every time was delicious). Day 1 we arrived around 8pm to our hostel. We went to Coles (the local supermarket) to buy supplies like pasta, Bran, Milk and Rolo pudding. We cooked our dinner and then it was time for the hostel guide to take us to our first drinking consultant. This was a pub called O'Malley's, which would soon become our local (due to proximity, prices, and 304 getting free Coca-Cola from Nikki the bartender. We drank and chatted amongst ourselves and to others. It was a good night.
For the rest of the week, we explored Sydney during the days, occasionally just lying in parks chatting or reading. Our nights would mostly start at O'Malley's and then off to another bar for a drink or two.

On the 17th of April it was time to say goodbye to Sydney and get on the 1 1/2 hour flight to Brisbane... or so we thought.

We arrived at the airport around 1 1/2 hours before our flight departed and went to the departure lounge to wait. one hour 4 minutes before our flight was due to depart I received an email from the airline informing me that our flight to Brisbane had been cancelled. We tried anxiously to find an employee of the airline to find out what was going on to no avail. After about 10 minutes a Jetstar employee arrived at the boarding desk. We asked what was going on and were told to go back out of security and speak to the customer service agent. We did as such. About 10 minutes after waiting in the incorrect line, over the loudspeaker we were told our flight had been cancelled. We went to the correct line and waited. When we finally got to the line, we were told the next and last flight to Brisbane only had one seat remaining. Luckily we were able to get seats on the flight to Gold Coast, about an hour and a bit from Brisbane leaving in 30 minutes. We took that flight.

We arrived on the Gold Coast after a rather uneventful short flight to be told that there would be a bus to Brisbane Airport provided free of charge. We were quite happy with this. We spoke to the Jetstar employee and queried whether the bus would be stopping in Brisbane City. He said it wasn't but if enough people wanted that, it may be able to be arranged. In the end, we stopped at Mount Gravatt (where 304 got off as it was quite close to Krams house, where he was staying), Brisbane City and Airport. Grundislav and myself got off at the city.

We were in Brisbane for the next few days. We went out and saw the sights of Brisbane. We ate delicious food. We met Dane Krams and we drank some beers (except 304, who had delicious coca cola). On the Thursday night we went out for pizza/pasta, then we went to Ric's Cafe to sample some live music. The bands were okay. We had some cheap drinks and a merry time. 304 & Krams did miss their last bus, only to be saved by Krams' mother.

On Friday we all met up again in the afternoon. We found a used book store where 304 found the 'Doom: Knee Deep in the Dead' novel. He purchased it along with a couple of other books.

That night we had some food then we went to Irish Murphys. The same shit musician was playing. Grundislav drank a beer called Pig's Arse. It was awful. We left and went to the Victory Hotel to consume more drinks. We talked a lot of crap. Ben read some of the Doom book. 304 and Krams had to get their bus so they were off. Francisco and I stayed for a bit then went home.

On Saturday, we were greeted by Resulka (who does Let's Plays) at 10:30am for our adventure to Byron Bay. Resulka hired a car so we drove down to Byron. We hung out discussing adventure games and at the end of the day we bid adieu to Resulka as she had to return to Brisbane to catch a flight back to Melbourne. Byron is a delightful town. We walked to the lighthouse, we listed to some excellent music and we went swimming. This was really the most relaxing part of the trip. Well for most. I got a cold and screwed up my calf muscle. Byron is really a place you have to experience if you ever come to Australia.

On Monday 22 April we took a bus back to Brisbane. By this time, my cold was really acting up, so Grundislav collected his stuff from mine and I parted ways with Grundislav and 304. They went to Krams to stay with him that evening and be silly, like in the photo in the previous reply to this thread.

I'm sure Grundislav, 304 and all the others we met along the way will be able to fill in further details.

This was Bogans 2013.
