Australia is great. They speak english, even in winter it's 20 Celcius during the day and we have big things like the big pinapple, the big sheep, the big banana. :p

Writing your game to Syd Field's three-act paradigm will greatly enhance your story structure and they way it is written and read. It's the structure most good films are written to (the others just get lucky).

http://www.sydfield.com/featured.htm
in particular check out the Paradigm Worksheet.

Anyway Mark, writing a story is easy, writing a compelling, interesting, well structured story is not. These resources are used by the best in the business. George Lucas used the Hero's Journey for the treatments to Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

The hero's journey and three-act structure can easily be used in the initial planning phases of an adventure game, and is probably best suited FOR use in an adventure game over any other genre.

Another point to note is that not everyone is going to read every one of your dialog options in dialog trees. So if you have essential information, make it compulsary, or incorporate it into every option subtly.

Enough.

I think the best thing to do would be to layout your backgrounds (using programmer art or whatever), you know the basic outlines with important details for things in your game. This will save you time if you have to, for some reason, get rid of a scene from the game (not a massive issue, but having an empty screen just needlessly drags out your game. Some scenes may go through a redisgn so they work better for the game, something you will not do with a completed background.

As for sprites, it's up to you really. You could use roger or you could do your main character sprite. Unless you do a complete redesign, there should be no reason to change this.

Another good idea is to set a style guide, so you can tell the tone of your story from that style if you know what I mean. Sometimes you may find some art goes well whilst others do not, this can all be set into the style guide so you don't have this problem. Esp things like colour selections for common elements like Wood, grass, etc.

I know for a fact Dave uses programmer art, but this may also be out of necessity of getting commercial artists to produce the art whilst he is scripting the game.

What kind of phone is it? Brand? Model number. All of this helps.

The most common way is bluetooth, usb or minisd card. Does your phone have storage or does it need to use a memory card to save ringtones and what not?

I like how steam isn't intrusive and logs your cd-keys to your account, so no matter how many now computers you buy or if you lose the disc, you'll never lose a game.

Most other companies would just say 'Your loss, if you want to play the game, buy a new copy!'

Not only does it protect them, it also protects the consumers purchases. It's a two-way street. How it should be.

Pull the lever repeatedly back and forth to derail the train.

But the train is full of babies!

More reason to derail the train.

ive planned this other game called gigamon its about a boy who gos into the forest and a gigantic monster attacks him but the mysterious and legendary gigamon come to his rescue.

gigamon= small creatures with amazing abilities

been planning this for about 1-2 years

Like Pokeman?

Young man. There are some things you should learn before posting here. The first thing would be to use some kind of punctuation and capital letters. That would be a great start.

Secondly, you should perhaps examine the adventure game genre to find out what would work and what wouldn't. This is the ADVENTURE game studio forum.

Finally, I'd suggest you try to at least come up with an original idea.

Maybe you should make a game first to impress us. We like that. I made a game once. It was epic.

At least you seem to be able to spell. That's a good start.

Oh one last thing. Spend more than 10 minutes drawing your art. All the awesome artists take time to develop their images into awesomeness. You should too.

I doubt the name idea would work Vince, unless you've got a foolproof method of stopping people supplying a false name.

The name comes from the credit card used to purchase... If you bothered to read vinces post.

And of course nobody ever used stolen credit cards to buy stuff on the internet  ::)

The whole point of Vince's theory is to deter legal purchasers of the game. Those who would bother (almost none) to buy his game using a stolen CC would not have to worry about their name on the welcome screen, correct.

You should have explosions... lots of explosions.

I don't even know what this thread is about!

I'm sorry, we can't have threads discussing Heterosexual Situations. This is clearly a Homosexual forum.

I don't really think its worth the time or effort for Indies to implement DRM systems into their games. Probably the 'best' way to do it would be to have a valve like system where your serial number is linked to your account and you have to use the internets to play. This systems works really well as a detterance as your steam account will be banned if you try to circumvent the DRM. This works particuarly well for multiplayer games on steam, though the single player games can still be cracked and playable.

There is no such thing as an infallable DRM system. You do not have the resources of Valve, so unless you decide to go down the route of only selling on Steam, and if you are able to implement valves DRM into your game, only then will you have this kind of pretection. It's a lot of effort and limits yourself to one retailer. Is it really worth your time, effort and possibly money?

Pirates will find a way. Most of them don't even care about what they are cracking, they just get a massive kick out of cracking other people's software.

If you are going to use noise, make sure you tick the monochrome box. Coloured noise is lose.

Perhaps you should borrow someone's satellite TV dish. And yes, by borrow I mean steal. THey can boost a wifi signal all good and like.

Well scaling and brightness/contrast are some of the most basic functions of photoediting software, so you can use just about any program to do these things.

As for the vectors, I'm not sure if there are any free vectordrawing programs that would have a decent bitmap to vectors trace. Vector Magic is pretty good, but that's not free (you can try it free online though).

Inkscape is a free vectoring program.

But on to the topic, I really depends on the effect you are after.Try doing your drawings with a 2B pencil and perhaps go over the lines with a 4B to get the defined lines. I generally have not had much trouble when scanning...

I know :p

I'm just being nitpicky! :D

Yeah, basically what you are doing here is giving the illusion of non-linearity. Sorting puzzles into different problems and solutions is a really good way of doing things.

All games are linear. They follow the path the designer has preconcieved.

Actually, Mark, the group of people who was there when we decided it was Holland was bigger than ever... At least, bigger than when we decided we were going to Spain or Miami.

If the rest of the people was outside eating falafel it's not our fault.. :) Maybe if they warned the others that a significant group of people was going to go outside for dinner there could have been more people together, but they didn' t.  ^_^ 0:)

Miami was decided in a similar thread to this two years ago, just after Canada mitteners in one car decided it would be France. Fran did not know this at the time, so offered to host it. Instead we had France, then we had Miami. This seems to be history repeating itself. Like I said, my vote is for Italy, and anyway, there is always the oppourtunity to sightsee after mittens and have mittens as a mitteny type thing. In a haunted castle. Chateaus don't count as castles AGA. Too french and not castley enough.
