I heard McDonalds will be paying their respect with a burger made in Michael's honour called the McJackson burger. It is listed as "mature beef inside two eight year old buns".

But in all seriousness, RIP.

To be completly honest with you, I really doubt you would get any more information about these game than what has already been released. Look up the interview with Dave Grossman and the other designer (can't remember his name for the life of me) here: http://e3.gamespot.com/video/6211381/. That interview pretty much contains all the info they will release of the game at this time. It's pretty comprehensive and backed up by gameplay video.

Since it looks like you might be faced with having to be in a team, do not despair. You'd be quite suprised at how easy it is for other team members to follow your 'vision'. Last week at uni we were tasked with coming up with a game concept to present this week. Since we have to talk about it in depth, it would have been easy to just do another FPS or RTS. Being ballsy, I suggested we do a 2D sidescroller art-wank game. Explaining my concept for the idea and my fellow team members were quite enthusiastic about the whole thing, all coming up with ideas even if it was an area that they were unfamiliar with.

I'm curious, Adamski - how did you get your employer's attention in the first place?  Just a combination of good grades, the right degree, hard work, and a little luck?

At this point, if the job I'm looking at right now falls through, I'd be willing to do really unusual things to catch the eye of a game development company.  The process of constantly applying for jobs online and getting rejected almost every time - video game jobs or not - is becoming frustrating.  Heck, I have good grades, two degrees, some experience, and a nice resume; I wonder what I'm doing wrong?

Meh.  Guess it's one of those rite of passage things.

I think with games jobs it's a matter of knowing people and showing that you want to make games. Ie, have a sample of your work from a game project you have programmed (ie with C++). It is that way with art related jobs I know for sure.

Java is used for boring stuff like writing mobile games. You don't want to do that. You want to know C++. AFAIK, C# and XNA are pretty much frowned upon by programmers in the industry. C# is used pretty much only for tools programming. Games = C++.

To be honest, you really have to force yourself away from her. This does mean moving, deleting her number and pretty much getting rid of any contact with her. If, as you said, there is no way she will back down on her promise to her husband (ie, marriage), then you have no other option. You must end this cherade, it will only cause more hurt for the both of you in the long run.

Why do you love her? Seriously, think about it. It's very possible the reason you desire her so much is because you can't have her.

Has she 'cheated' on her bloke with you? If so, this is a promise breaker really towards her bloke. Also, could YOU trust someone to be faithful if they have cheated before? Every time I've gotten involved with a girl who is attached, it ends badly and I have alot of mistrust of them, things happen, you know. Once a cheater, always a cheater. It's the thrill of it all.

Have you got a crystal ball? It seems like you do since you are acting totally irrational (oh wait, love), thinking that this is the only girl out of 3.35billion that you could love. You can't see the future. You don't know what will happen if somehow you could be in a relationship with her.  Would you be happy, miserable, married? Who knows.

So leave. You can't have what you want in your current situation and the vicinity of your abodes are causing you heartache. Take what pride you have left, suck it up and find a new area to live in. Get a new phone number, get a new email, get and new address no where near where she is, and get outta there. Take some time to let those feelings subside. You can not and will not be able to do that if you are anywhere near her. You also need to tell her why you are leaving and why you have to leave. It is unfair on yourself to stay there. All these chemicals in your body go crazy when you are near her. You need to get away. Give it six months, sex it up with some other ladies (seriously, you need to sort your body chemistry out with some sex0rz) and then go meet her in a public house for a fine beverage, see how you do.

I would bet you a thousand pounds (if I had a thousand pounds and weren't a poor student) that you would be a much happier person and not feel crazy in love with her anymore. I know is sounds like a nonchalant attitude, but your body chemistry and psychological well-being is way out of kilter due to this girl and you need to get it sorted out!

And let's just say I have been in a situation where I was in love with someone (to the max) but due to reasons beyond my control I could not be with her.

Holy Crap. Now I feel like a dick.

...

I'm sorry. So sorry. I hope you find a way to overcome this situation. It must be hard for you right now.

Have sex with someone else.... repeatedly. And then go find another person. Have sex with them. go find 8 people more. Hopefully you will then realise she is not the only female person on the planet and you had been blind for a while. Blinded by the illness that is love.

Wow, that's pretty cool. They even made a map. Two out of Five of the best of the games Dave. This is the real reason you shared this isn't it? :P

That's settled, I won't even waste the bandwidth aquiring a copy through dubious means.

But Monkey Island... That's a title I'd pay good money for!

Hah, I like the idea behind the rabbit foot one... although the rabbits would probably be sprites if they were moving along a conveyor belt.

Scarab117, you should always post background images as .gif or .png. Bitmaps are uncompressed and take ages to load, even if they are 320x2xx resolution. you can also use img tags to display them in your post. Jpgs aren't usually a good choice for pixels as they are a lossy compression format (lossy = loss of quality).

Hmm, it doesn't sound as bad as MCL. If all the gameplay elements are cohesively put together into the main game and not blatanly tacked on as minigames, then I guess it sounds like they were going in the right direction. It just happens that poor scriptwriting and simplistic puzzles to woo the girls (since this was a major part of any Larry game, and for the most part involved complex traditional Adventure style puzzles) were this games downfall. Do the studio's responsible for these new Larry games just totally ignore the fact that they could probably easily contract Al Lowe to write the dialog and puzzle elements of the game, and thus creating something people might not be afraid to part their cash to buy?

There is not just that problem, they certainly need to market the games better. The first I heard of it's release was seeing it in a game store for about half the price of a regular retail title. My first instincts were really low price=awful game.

Yeah! That's what I said! Sorry Nacho, from your post it looks like you were saying the opposite! No worries.

Actually my point is that my point is that taking a shit about politics before people vote and complaining after the election is done is a childish tantrum... I was not directly accussing you of that because I have no way of knowing how involved you are in politics, but I know there are a lot of people who like to have this "anti-system spirit", not getting involved in politics or even not voting, living happy and proud of "not giving a shit about that useless social conventionalisms like voting"...

And when people votes and people says something they don't like, they complain.

Undemocratic and childish, imo.

Being interested before and after the elections is ok.
Not being interested before and after the elections is ok.
Not being interested before and getting interested after the elections is childish, undemocratic and hypocrital.

I don't really think it's 'childish' to express their opinions on the state of political affairs of a country in an internet forum. To use an analogy, it would be much the same as going into a pub or around the office watercooler (do people do that?) and someone pipes up with 'Hey, what is happening with this country! 900k people voted for the BNP in the Euro elections. That's fucked up!'. Everyone in the surrounding area who perhaps would like to talk about this event all add their input to the discussion. Unfortunatly, there is always one guy who likes to disagree because he can, resorting to name calling and general tomfoolery.

It's called human interaction. We all like to do it. We all like to talk about issues that effect us, issues that don't etc.

And to what you say Nacho, about people voting and then complaining about the current powerholders of Government, I totally disagree with you there. Voting for your selected party with them failing to win in your constituancy/ the whole shebang gives you the right to be upset with the current political situation. NOT voting at all gives you no right to complain about politics, even though so many do.

I love Magna Cum Laude (...... problems here? xD) but isn't and adventure game.

Really? Wow. I didnt think anyone liked that game, let alone love it...

If you are looking for something more 'sierra' style, perhaps you should take a look at Grey Matter (if it ever comes out) by Designer Jane Jensen (co-writer of King's Quest 6).

In this day and age, classic adventure games seem more suited to easily accessible and shorter episodic experiences that the telltale games deliver. Whilst they have an advantage by using pre-existing IP, it does seem to prove that adventure games are selling in a large number, well a large enough number to be a finacial viable game studio.

Personally I think games like the King's Quest and other Sierra adventure games would feel 'dated' as people have more sophisticated tastes when it comes to original stories in video games. There really has been a black hole of nothingness for years when it comes to truly funny and entertaining game experiences, whilst the serious and fantasy genre has been overloaded with material.

As for the space quest series, I feel they were really a product of their time. It was at a time where videogames didn't really explore parody as a genre for game storytelling and it was in the right place at the right time. With cinema's bad trend to cash-in on films by releasing parody films which use situations and characters from epic films for comedy has left a sour taste in people's mouths. The joke was funny for maybe one film (let's say scary movie), but it got old very quick. (see scary movie 2, 3, 4, 6, epic movie, date movie, police academy 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc). It might work for one more Space Quest as the formula has not been done for a while, but any more and it would just cease to be entertaining. True, in the Space Quest series they did develop storyline, but it was generally pretty flimsy and resorted to parody far too often. Space Quest 1-3 (hmm... maybe not so much 3) were quite entertaining for what they were, 4 was exceptional as it introduced and excellent element with the time travel thing and travelling to Space Quest Sequels, along with excellent voice acting and narration), Space Quest 5 was poor and Space Quest 6 was abysmal.

The Leisure Suit Larry series is an exceptional example in how to return to a much loved series in a bad way. People fondly remember playing the games not because of the sexual nature of the games, but the humourous and embarassing situations Larry found himself in. Yes it was a bit sexy (well as sexy as an 8-bit 16/256 colour game could be), but the jokes and situation comedy made the series memorable. You can't help but feel sorry for Larry, the aging hipster trying to get laid. He was someone men could relate to, but also feel better about themselves. Every man (that calls himself a real man) has gone through that quest of loosing one's virginity, and while it may not have been as pathetic (or it may have been) as Larry's. The sequel was of a similar nature, although it involved Larry looking for something a bit less superficial.  Larry 3 involved the player taking the role of Larry and his love interest Patti undertaking detective work in a conspiracy. Larry 5 reverted Larry back to that loser phase, once again looking for sex but seeming to fail at every corner. 6 I believe was similar, although I have never played it. Many Many years later, Sierra were looking to make a quick buck off college kids, schoolkids and people who fondly remember playing the games when they were younger. They fucked it up by concentrating on the sexual aspect of the series whilst ignoring the actual fun bits like the story and gameplay. Epic Fail. The same could be said about the movie studio one they just released. (anyone played it?)

Anyway, I forgot my point.

I seem to have totally forgotten my point...

I've not had a problem so far to be honest and I have been running Windows 7 for a month. Do you run in a window or full screen?

I've played Blackwell Legacy and Unbound on this system without a problem. As for DX10/11, they are only used by games that require the latest and greatest graphical effects, DX9c is the primary DX it uses for games.

The colour schemes thing is the Windows Aero transparency thing which most people turn off as it is an unnecessary graphics and memory waste.

BTW, Vista was only terrible when it was first release (and by terrible, it still wasn't too bad), once SP1 was released it was faster than XP (marginally) and very stable. It got a bad stigma attached to it after that, which prompted MS to develop 7 quickly. I have used Vista for about 2 years with not a single BSOD.

Problems, Firefox still loves to eat your memory, especially after waking your computer up from sleep mode.

I just tried 'Art of Theft'. Works fine. Yes it does change the colour scheme to basic, but other than that, worked perfectly. (windowed, 640x480)

If you are going to scan art in and colour it, I'd suggest you use the Gimp... and a ruler.

I really do fail to see how white people voting for the BNP or UKIP is any different from black people voting for Obama.
And parties like the BNP and UKIP are atleast upfront about their policies and intentions, and people have the freedom to vote for whoever they choose - which goes for people of all races and religions and that's the way it should be.
Personally I didn't vote, because I feel there isn't a single political party that puts the public before their own interests (be they political or financial...).
And I really do agree with what Reggie D Hunter said on Have I Got News For You the other week; Discrimination is just bad, whether it's against racists or black people, it's still discrimination.

But as usual, as I have disagreed with you you're going to completely ignore what I just said and continue to think what you want anyway. You should change your name to Sheepster.

Yuster always gets very passionate about things she believes in. Things that piss her off. You should know this by now? How does this make her a sheep? Just because your opinion on the subject matter differs Boyd, does not make you right. It doesn't make Yufster right either. My opinion of the BNP is that they are a racist bunch of inbred fools and no facts you may present me will change that opinion.

The reason it happened is people living in the English countryside are very intolerant of people not like them. Also, if you don't like what is happening in English politics, you are in your right to set up a political party. You may not get voted in, but it's a right.
