Going in Time Out? The game Eric?!?!

Your belief is that you're a time traveller isn't it. Time Travellers suck balls, because they'll like destroy the world and stuff and get eaten by dinosaurs!!!!!!

PUT DOWN!!!

Misj, absolutly loving the design. The animation is pretty kick ass as well. One small little thing, the hands looks somewhat goofy in the unanimated side view.

Loomy, beautiful as always. Love the design, love the glow effect, and the simple high contrast shading works brilliantly.

What the hell? This game looks really sexploitatious. How did I not hear about it when I was a teenager? :p

Nice pic. Really really quality. Looks 'painterly'. One crit, the ridge of the hat is off centre.

Don't dismiss the Bamboo, but if you do get one, I wouldn't recommend getting the really cheap vers. Get the Bamboo fun. It's more geared towards digital painting than the lower models.

Ok, I'd like to say a few things.

I like the coloured pencil look. Coloured pencils are highly under-rated as an art medium, generally perceived as something for children to use. I totally disagree and think, as an artist, you can create some cool effects.

That said, some of the colours may need adjustment. You notice in the KQ7 artwork, the tree trunk colours blend into a bluey-purpley colour. I don't think you have effectively executed this in your drawing. You need more of a violet colour with two different grades, on light for the highlights, and a darker shade for the blend. For the second part of the terrain (behind the foreground, where the path leads off to, I'd be inclined to use a lighter and more blue shade of colour for the grass. Infact, give the whole lot a slightly blue hue. It's due to atmospheric particles and the reflection of the blue sky on said particles. The mountains at the back should probably also be closer in hue to the sky and very desaturated.

The grass should overlap the path slightly, particuarly on the side closest to the viewer. Paths in the kings quest series are 'dug' out of the grass, so there is overgrowth and depth to the path. Yours looks completly flat. The leafy parts of the trees lack depth and overlappyness. Use darker greens in the parts behind the overlap.

The Sierra backgrounds were hand painted. It is really the only way to get close to the 'Sierra Style'. Alternatively, try Corel Painter. I think you can get a 30-Day trial.

I miss the scanlines. I liked them!

Yay for Tim Schafer. Boo for Roberta Williams. We shall never forgive her for King's Quest 5.

Makeout Patrol, why don't you just do what every other mac user does when they need to run a decent program and run windows on your Mac. It's one of the major selling points of the Macs nowadays.

Anyway, enough mac badmouthing.

I like the sound of this project. I have tried out pro motion, but none of the features have really made me think to myself, ooh! I need to fork out my cash to buy that. A pixel targeted graphics program is a good idea, after all, I did my first bit of pixelart in dPaint.

Blenders interface is controlled primarily by using shortcuts. It is hard to understand at first, but it all makes sense.

3DS MAX has been around for a long time and for me it was the easiest to learn interface wise. Maya has been around for ages and is supposedly better for animation (although that is subjective). Blender is a decent all round package, free and runs on any OS. Zbrush is a great sculpting tool (imagine your 3d models are clay and you can sculpt them in very very high detail), although the interface is kooky. Mudbox is apparantly easier to learn, but is buggy as buggery.

Blender is a good choice Nacho. It is very capable. Just look at the open source films that have been made using it.

At mittens we sacrifice goats to our leader, Helm, eat the flesh of virgin cheerleaders, and use the bible to start our BBQ. If you want to come, there is also the initiation, which involves the ritual flogging and the ritual buggery.

Red Flagg rocks!

What a cool topic. Too bad it's limited to 2 games. I would have liked to see it as a re-envisioning of any say pre-2001 AGS game. It would have opened the field a bit more, and allow people to 'remake' some true classic AGS games...

Not that Red Flagg or House Quest aren't true classic AGS games...

But I don't think anyone could out-do the mastery of the great Scid, the long-time missing and much loved AGSer.

For those who can't get Red Flagg to work, here is a walkthrough and screenshot. http://gamesolutions.efzeven.nl/red-flagg-dont-call-me-blue-walkthrough-manu-cardoen2000/

I too agree with the others that it is f***ing nice, but I prefer the 1st versions skin tones. They seem more natural and a bit softer.

One irritant. The stray yellow pixel on her left ear? Earring? It's too small an object to worry about and just looks distracting.

Yeah, CJ has said in the past he theoretically can retrieve graphics from a compiled game. It's just a matter of leverage... Fosters works good for that.  :P

You should celebrate with a site redesign. Nice to see you now have a decent domain name.

It's different, because you now have to convince a computer that you are not a terrorist, willingly submit your personal data to the American government (bet they log your ip as well...) and then finally, convince a grumpy customs official that you are not a terrorist. I'd rather fill out a piece of card with my details on it and submit on entry.

I too agree wholeheartedly with what Disco says... well sort of... I had problems with my flight to Australia due to an electronic permission to travel not going through properly. Even after I proved I'm an australian citizen to the idiot at the check-in desk. But on the other side... no problems.

America has the dickiest border protection in the world. They could at least welcome you to America like the cell phone networks do. Never have I had a welcome to America from a customs official. I've heard they are told to be dicks to you to 'protect America's borders'.

In debate with an associate of mine, I asked her whether she thought police and law were a restriction of free will. After all, they serve to prevent actions of a certain nature (which would be detrimental to society), either preemptively or punitively. She said they were not.

Laws don't prevent free will. They discourage such acts that as a whole we see as morally dubious or wrong, but one could still go out and commit murder if they wanted to. I could download music without having a license for using said music if I wanted to. I am exercising free will and breaking a law.

Doing something and being punished for that action does not take away free will.

Not to worry, I'll PM everyone the exact address closer to the date.  International flights require an address to stay at when filling out the customs cards, anyway.

Just so everyone knows, you now need to fill in an electronic permission to travel for travel to the US under the VWP now. This came in on Jan 12 2009. This needs to be filled out before you travel.

https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/

You need to apply for this now, or they won't let you in. Just another way of securing America's borders. Keep in mind it is not a visa, just an authorisation to travel to the customs people at the border. You still need to get a visa approved on entry.

It's in a dictionary, it's a real word http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/11/18/2422700.htm

But still, I wouldn't use it as a response in a game, it's too 'common'
