Where are her hips, where is her crotch, her boobs are smaller and the head doesnt have enough colour variation. And i think her legs are too long. She looks like she is on stilts!

On the original, Far too big. NIcely done, not much variation of colours or shading.

I would use your second attempt (the smaller one, and go from there.

Make her symmetrical, since there is no variation on either side. Give her 3 shades of colour for each main colour. Light, mid and shadow. Outline if you must using an even darker shade. And I usually have a definite column of a single pixel in the centre to do details like a nose, as opposed to having the centre 2 pixels wide.

My advice for now. I may do a quick paintover in a sec to show what i mean.

The graphics are awesome, the idea is awesome.

Only issue is the theatre background. The other screens are mostly cut off. The theatre is full screen. Is there a reason? Theoretically, you could incorporate the gui in the black spaces. I prefer 16:10 resolutions anyway cause i have a widescreen. It just seems really odd to me...

Anyway, good luck, hope to see this done. :)

To be perfectly honest, there was no difference in the facial features in the 2 original images. The hat brim was slightly lower on the second.

As for the new one, He still looks like a bloke with a silly hat.

Make him old with a beard, give him a goatee or make him a goth.

Stereotypes work best.

Yeah, the new image is great.

About the stereotypes... Well.. I blame the media. In most western countries, the media is so inundated with the negativities of the muslim religion, and I was making a political statement against these stereotypes in the form of humour. The type of humour that most muslims would get offended by (and possibly condemn me to death for :p ).

I don't reserve my anti-religious feelings to those I don't understand. I studied theology in high school. I know alot more about the various religions than the average pleb. Ask disco about my anti-catholic view.

I have been so dissillusioned by religions. I'm a Roman Catholic. I choose not to have religious beliefs. I accept there may be a God, I accept there may not be. Religious extremism is a foreign concept to me, because I cannot fathom a rational, concious human being could believe in something without any evidence of it's existance.

On that note, lets not get into a religious argument. There are about 20 other old thread that could be resurfaced to do that in.

All I gotta say, if you believe strongly in this game, make it. If its the kinda game you wanna make, make it. If its the kinda game you would wanna play, make it.

You are what counts.

And on that note, more paintovers :P !!!!!

Mark!!! You got it totally wrong!

This is what you need to make it more exciting and actiony..

I wouldn't play it, cause it seems so unrealistic. Aren't all muslims suicide bombers and terrorists?

It mustn't be too hard for her to escape her country, as she seems to be wearing a full body whatsit. Are muslims able to tell the difference between each other when they wear that?

evil bad guy: Look it's her!!! Lets stone her to death!!!

Evil bad guy no 2.: are you sure? She looks kinda different.... I dunno, maybe it's the eyes...

evil bad guy no 1: Damn our stupid laws which dictate women must cover their bodys and faces fully!! Damn them to hell!!!

Kaboom. Their suicide bombs accidently go off and they die and the heroine escapes.

The end.

See, it writes itself!!!

Emerald, you may annoy me, but you do have some insightful things to say. It is true that the average adventure game player may want to play a game with a less serious subject matter than a tragic school massacre.

That said, if you intertwined something fantastic into the story, it may be something more interesting to the average adventure game player. Look at Dave Gilberts games for example. A game that deals with death. Not exactly a light subject matter. By introducing a fantasy element, he can still deal with the subject of how people deal with death. And they are fun games. A game about colombine would not be fun to play. A game about the holocost might be. Because most of the people who play the game would not have lived in that time. So, real event that happened a long time ago, ok. Real event that happened will always be in some way bad taste.

THe characters are cool, could use a bit more detail.

Aurinond is right, if you made the portrait as a base for the sprite, look much better. The sprites would be quite big, due to the scale of the house.

Anyway. Nice work.

I think the intro to Indy FOA was a brilliant way to start the game. The way you went through the college to find the statue thing and the fact it wasnt always in the same place. A good action start. And you played it.

Yeah felt it here too. quite strong, the whole room was shaking and i like totally freaked out. First earthquake for me too.

my desk moved like 5 inches. probably due to me holding on to it and freaking out.

Irony doesn't work on the internets.

You act like an overambitious child. We get lots of them here.

Trying to reach perfection is an impossible dream. Just make something that you and other people would like to play. Stop trying to craft the perfect game. You will never achieve it.

Do what? Rant?

I don't exactly think it is the most useful thread to be honest. He's angry about the last few days. Woop de doo. I to be honest don't care much for it.

The thread is neither useful or funny.

It just tells me that tuomas is insane.

Or option two. Go to the psychiatic hospital and commit yourself.

To be honest, what you are feeling is a bit of depression. Chill out, relax. The world is only what you make of it. If you make the world difficult, the world becomes difficult.

Take some time out. Back up your computer. Reinstall everything. Should clear out the junk. I usually do it every 6 months to get it running nice again. Or if you don't like the crazy route, just clean your registry, defrag and all that other crap.

You are stressing out over nothing. Nothing is wrong you anally retentive bastard.

If you are trying to compare yourself to mozart freud and shakespeare, you need to get a reality check.

Write your game how you want it. If you want choice, put loads of choices in! But in giving choice to break from linear gameplay, you will sacrifice you ability to control your story unless these choices lead to the same thing, which makes choice redundant.

Choice when it comes to how to tackle a puzzle, i suppose could be interesting, but then don't you just make the puzzles too easy? You should have a strict guideline on how the puzzles should be tackled. A puzzles serves to make people think alongside your story and elongate said story. Sure, some are really stupid (think like the programmer puzzles), some are easy, some are hard. Don't do puzzles for puzzles sake. Make them relevant.

As for length, you first game should not be too ambitious. This is how projects fail.

And stop being an arse to others. He was just saying your post was confusing. Which it was.

I will be there.

As for location, I'm not sure how appropriate a hostel would be to the brittens atmosphere, if you've got random guests getting in the way all the time.
But I think the important thing is to agree a definite place & date soon, because it's only 4 months away now so it won't be long until the flight prices start going up. Anywhere is fine with me, as long as there's a shop and pub reasonably close by that we can pop along to.

Actually I'd say a hostel would have the similar privacy as a campsite, except indoors. It doesn't look like the biggest place, so if it were booked in advanced, there would be a chance that it would be mostly agsers, and the odd random backpacker. The place looks nice, and it is within distance to dublin, which is where everyone really wants to go. If it were near dublin, i would go.

Three words would sell it for me.

Guiness Factory Tour.

We couldnt do that if we were over the other side of the country.

I vote Dun Laoighre

And emerald, most of us know what each other looks like. We don't do uniforms. Although I may wear a silly hat.

I would say add a sign over the gate like in an arc shape, perhaps wrought(sp) iron so you can at least put the words circus there, well backwards at least.
#617
I love the colours in this piece. It gives a good sense of how undesirable this place would be to live. Put some dead trees in the background if you put trees in.

The house IMO is a bit large. I would have made it smaller, unless your sprites are huge. Did you use a sprite for scale reference? If not, I suggest you do.

Which means he could do a 3D or 2.5D game, or simply 2D. With so many choices, what will you choose Dave?!?

Give me a bell if you want to see a sample of my 3d work. (subtle hint)

:) Once again, well done.

I believe the p3n15h award has a place. It needs to be clearly defined though, which I guess with the massive growth of the community, it now should be. Initially it was devised as an award for the most visually impaired, incoherently plotted(if it even had a plot) and least effort put in to making a game. Something flukeblake could win basically. It should be bought back, with a strict criteria that must be adhered to.
