The ticket booth looks way bigger than it should.

I had a period where I wasn't around for about a year. I came back, and I certainly didnt find it overwhealming with all the changes. I'd check out the forum every now and then in that time, but I rarely contributed.

The only things that changed were some new names, engine improvements and lots of game releases.

It's like joining as a newbie again, although a few people remember your name.

Since I first came here in 2001 (i think...) Many things have changed. Ezboard forums are gone, the engine uses windows now. I remember using the bloody dos ags editor! Loads of games have been released.

But other than that, all that goes on here is talk about things, and if something important pops up, it might go in the popular threads bit.

Other engines. Well, the Adventure game talk and chat would be the place for that. Its not AGS talk and chat. I'd say if a wintermute or whatever user wants to let us know about their game release, then post it in there.

Actually, I did figure out that my video card does support such a feature, (intel intergrated graphics) but i don't think many of the less advanced users would figure it out. There is a little dropdown box that has full screen as default and fixed aspect ratio, which sorted out my problems.

It's just less advanced users wouldnt be able to play games in the intended graphical way.

I never liked akira. I found it quite boring and a bit of silly nonsense.

Their argument is fucking stupid. I know there are elitist types who are all about palette control and all that, and sure, BACK IN THE DAY when graphics manipulation programs were NOT AS ADVANCED, you would be restricted. Why should the fact that the availability of better software and colour reducers and automatic dithering get people upset because you are not doing it 'proper'?

Fucking snobby attitude. If it looks good and serves a purpose and a scene made with pixels to look old-school, then in my opinion it is pixel fucking art. Its not lazy to be effiecient and use tricks. It's called cunningness. Yeah, sure you may want to tweak the odd pixels to make it look more asthetic, but does the use of an automatic dither make it any less retro?

C U next tuesday pixelwhores.

I will never join that forum, i'm not 1337 enough for them cause i am too cunning.

Your aim when making a game should not be to please us. It should be the adventure game you have always wanted to play, or characters you have made up and like and want to write a story about them.

Commerciability should not really come into the equation.

I only like the time travel and the assasination idea. They are by far the most interesting. The rest I wouldnt bother playing.

It would be really nice to have the option to have a 'sidebar' mode, like the letterbox mode, since I have a 16:10 screen (and i'm sure many others do), it is really ugly to have the pixels stretched horizontally when playing a game if you know what I mean.

What I would prefer is to have black bars down the sides of my screen as opposed to having the pixels stretched horizontally.

And there is that other thing... but you know, that can wait till 3.1... The thing that wintermute has that ags doesn't... (subtle hint)...

Great work, love your stuff...

Hi!

Know this thread hasn't been updated in a while.

Any plans for a better model format than MS3d. Not the best model format IMO. Any shader support planned?

Thanks

If it was a standing order, they will charge you for it. They are bastards. The lot of them. Every bank will charge you for something like that.
#630
The reason they have overdraft charges is to trap the debt inclined, with no money handling skills and feed from their wallet. They are truly evil bastards. If you happen to go overdrawn (missed DD charges, bounced check charges, charges for taking a dump), then you obviously aren't looking after your money (it's happend to me, now i watch my finances alot closer). It doesn't help that the banks take days to update your balance sometimes. Unless you pay attention to how much goes in and out of your bank account, you never know what can happen. You might go overdrawn by 2 p and get charged £35 for the service of them lending you that 2p. Most banks don't give a crap.

Yep I shared it because i thought it would be helpful to some. The GTD thread is a lot more in depth and certainly deals with the subject in a much more in depth manner.

I'm sorry, but he really did press my buttons.

I should read the number 2 golden rule. So should he.

He seems to be the one trying to start a war.

My primary response would be a giant DUH

That article is the basics of the basics...,
Think about your character. Wow, what an ingenious literary technique.

Emerald. I am going to say this once. You can fuck off.

You have only been a member of these forums for a few weeks and already you are pissing people off with your useless comments and the utter drivel that comes out of your mouth (keyboard... whatever).

If you have something intelligent to say, then by all means, say it. If you don't then shut the fuck up. You are starting to look like a 12 year old child, and if you keep it up, I will treat you as such.

That aside, yes it is the basics, but alot of people don't actually put any effort into creating their characters. It reiterates the basics, which are fundamentally what creates believable characters.

General Discussion / Re: cheap laptop?
Sat 16/02/2008 15:27:52
New laptops of a pretty good spec are ridiculously cheap nowadays and will last you a lot longer than a cheap ebay jobbie. Laptops lose value so quickly now it's almost impossible to re sell a laptop for any kind of money.

General Discussion / Re: Best chat up lines

Congrats Mr McPhee!

Anyway, it does help when you do know something about the person you are trying to chat up. It's not that easy in a pub or club situation, you've just gotta go in there and hope for the best. Be clever. Be witty. If you are neither clever or witty, well, comment on something other than her shoes eyes boobs or bum. Girls get that shit all the time.

Hey,

I found this article today, which may help alot of you. It discusses the vital information you need to bring your character to life.

http://www.thecareergamer.com/?p=155

Playing games where the characters are a lifeless bore is a tedious experience, especially in games which have a proper story. The public need to sympatise with the character. Developed characters are essential in driving your story forward, they can even help you write the story.

So read, discuss, input.

General Discussion / Re: Happy Valentines Day!
Fri 15/02/2008 14:52:19
I love valentines day. It bring out my best!

A guy from work came in with this lovely whore girl who in the spirit of the day, told him that she didn't want to be with him and wanted to be with someone else. She knew this before they went out that night. Any decent girl would have cancelled. Not screw him for a £60 meal and then not screw him.

I said he could have spent his £60 on a better looking whore.

I am a bastard.
