Hi Mjomble,

Attention - spoiler!

(unfortunately I have no idea how to format the text to make it invisible without selecting it...)

1) You need to attach something to the cane
2) If you don't have anything for attaching look under some foliage.

Just finished playing it. Very short, but sweet. There's a lot of puzzles in these few rooms.

Personally, I found that the game asks you to "get closer" more often than not, so that might be the route to go with all your future puzzles. You could have a lot of fun with "get closer" and make it a running gag in the episodes to come.

I look forward to the next episode! How long did this one take you to make?

It took me about 8 months which is way too long. But there were weeks when I didn't touch AGS at all. And it's my very first game (a lot of extra work, looking for the right command,...)

Boston McShew (also known as Leisure Suit Harry) is proud to inform you that the AGI-SCI retro game

"Space Quest minus 1 - Decisions of the Elders"

is complete and ready for download.

I thought about postponing its release because so many SQ games have recently been completed. Since my game is different (it's really retro style with 320x200 pictures, AGI fonts - design very similar to SQ2) it's hardly comparable to the other games --> I decided to release it right away.

It's some kind of hybrid between AGI (graphics) and "modern" aspects (icon controlled, ogg-Music).
If you are not yet convinced I have provided 2 screenshots under "games in production".

If you loved the really old games you'll like this one and spend a funny and melancholic hour.

Enjoy:

(I hope it's a good omen that I uploaded the ZIP on Friday 13th  ;D)

Looks like a promising project.  :)

To make it SOUND like a promising project, too, I have uploaded one of the two piano songs I have composed for this game:

Thanks for your kind words, folks.

Thanks to beta-tester Arj0n this game very very close to the finish line.

But I consider postponing its realease and wait until the hype about the recently released Space Quest remakes has faded away.

Which might be a good reason to postpone its realease...
We'll see...

Hi folks,

I am about to finish the first chapter of Space Quest -(minus) 1 "Decisions of the Elders", with Jerry Wilco, Roger's father, being the main character looking for his bride who got lost in an emergency situation in space.

I use 320x200 graphics, same style as in SQ II (AGI font...). It's with icons though (no text parser) and MP3 music --> retro pictures with modern control and audio.
I hope I will have this first chapter completed within Q I.
Community feedback (and above all my amount of free time) will tell me if I ought to proceed and create a second chapter...

Thanks. Meanwhile, however, I have done a couple of things by myself. I've drawn AGI fonts in SCI studio for instance. My AGS game already looks a lot like AGI (even though I decided to renounce of text parsing...)

Thanks a lot - I'm gonna make it so.

I have started to customize all GUIs from the default game but I cannot find the quit GUI (Are you sure you want to quit...). Where the hell is it?

You'll have to bite the bullet and do what we all do: learn to draw backgrounds.

I feared so. Last night I was dreaming of a "SIERRAfy"-button in "paint" - it did not come true, obviously...

Weeee, the graphics program question in technical!
Well, the drawing is what I tend to begin with --> beginners question. A hint where this question suits better will be very much appreciated :-)

Hi folks, I want to create a game that ressembles the old Sierra games (LSL3, SQ3) --> 16 colors EGA plus dithering effect.
Has anyone got any suggestions for me how to produce such pictures "easily".

Maybe there is a tool within some program where I can enable such an "EGA mode..."
Or maybe, just maybe, there's a program that can convert digital photos down to 320x200 with only 16 colors.

I know this may be a stupid question, but a graphically non-talented guy simply had to ask it...

Hi densming, just wanted to let you know that I enjoyed your video tutoriums a lot! And just when I thought a written summary would be great I found just that!
Since the website where I can find the pdf has changed I wonder where I can find the files (sprites, bmps...) which you are referring to in your book.
One more thing, when are you planning to publish part 2? (Once I am through with part 1, the next part might save me a lot of time for investigations on scripting issues...)

Greetings from the Alps...

I know I want to create an old Sierra like game (AGI/SCI with text parser; like PQ2, SQ2 or 3).
Since I am not a scripting genius I am looking for an according AGS template. (The AGI engine itself seems to be too difficult for newbies like myself)
I found the Space Quest 3 template which used to work with an older AGS version but it does not seem to be compatible with the most recent AGS 3.2
Can anyone provide me with such a template?

Thanks!

Let's don't and say we did!
