??? I used it on XP without any problems.

What I've noticed, but that was with older versions, that AGS sometimes is a bit fussy about the path you're playing the game from. If it is too long, contains too many spaces, other characters or something like that, you can get strange messages.

A suggestion is to move the game to a folder with less than 8 characters as close to the root as possible. (I normally use D:\AGSGAMES) and that works fine. Once I had this message and that was solved by moving the game from D: to C:.

Maybe this helps..

Well, this is a bit of a trick. There are ways to find objects to sell, but only if you get below three Margin Units.
To get more Margin Units and standing on the market:

- Walk all the way to the left to the boathouse
or
- Climb the stairs to the left and go to the factory. Inside walk all the way to the right and behind the big containers you can find an object.
Pick up the object and take it back to the market. There you can sell the object to the man in the souvenir stall.

So a suggestion could be to go to the fortune teller and spend some more or.... see what else you can buy on the market that's cheaper. Since I don't know what you've done already or where you are in the game, it's difficult to say what to do exactly.

While you're at it, found another strange thing (or two)...

- USE the doorways or looking at them result in strange texts (like Why would I do that or I'm not going to try that...) but you'll use them anyway.
- The Carvings hotspot at Himavat isn't always visible. I haven't been able to figure out when it becomes available but most of the time it's not. Not that it's relevant for the game but still...

When at Himavat, use the can on the exit for a very special effect...

Walk over to the TV and use the CD on Jane. This way you’ll put the CD down and walk to Jane. Walk back to the CD and stand on the left of it. Call Anthony again who will walk towards you and step on the CD. Talk to him again and let him confess again, this time on the record.

The interface is really something you need to get used to. The fact that you can roam around without taking the main character with you is quite special. To let Valjean do something takes some effort and I must say I was frustrated with the fact that at some point he wanted to use the stick on everything, even though I only wanted to look.

Furthermore, the black and white are not very helpfull. At some point I couldn't find Valjean anymore because he was standing at the side where it looked as shadow of the sewer.

The navigation is also confusing. Walking north followed by walking south to go straight ahead isn't something that's logical. Besides, you can't see in which rooms you can scroll or not. I was searching for the exit for a very long time, while I only had to scroll to the right.

Now I'm at the part where Thenardier comes into play but whatever I try, he doesn't take any action. Also, some hotspots get the name of the active character but I can't figure out what it means.

The atmosphere is good, the simplistic form of the characters and the music certainly add to it, but I'd think twice before buying the full game because the demo frustrated quite a bit. But it certianly is beautifull to watch and a good try to break with the ordinary point & click method.

Follow the footsteps to the right. When you then try to follow them to the north, you realize that he went the wrong way. Walk to the right and when you’re in front of the skull cave you see that Vincente hasn’t been there yet. Pick up the BOULDER on the right of the entrance and use it on the cave to block the entrance.

Strange... I could only reproduce this behaviour by keeping the CTRL key down. Might that one be stuck? CTRL-M should take the input box down.

It's correct that you can't do anything else when that box is visible.

Then your bomb isn't finished yet. I don't know which part you're missing but this is from the bomb-squad manual:

Use the nitre with the bag of sulphur in your inventory and then use the liana with the bag to create a fuse. Use the bag with the coconut to fill the coconut and use the liana with the coconut to tie it shut. Use the fuse on the closed coconut and use the glue on the coconut to make it all stick together.

Now that one is a bit trickier:

Walk all the way to the left, past the sandcastle and look at the altar. There’s a hole in the center. Use the mattock on the coconut to crack it and use the cracked coconut on the hole. A vessel will appear. Look at the vessel and find a tube of GLUE, a corder BAG and a box of MATCHES. Interact with the bag to find sulphur inside.

Leave the hut and walk to the right twice to return to the map.

Walk back to the woods right of the big head statue. At some point you’ll find a man hanging upside down. It’s Bill. On the ground is a switch but it misses a good lever. Use the cane on the switch and then use the switch to lower Bill. He’ll tell you about something he saw earlier and will take you there.

Bill will start working on the balloon.
