I agree with you Calin, but is it fair to rate a game by just one or two to reflect the mass? Clearly the response you get to this thread isn't in line with "a reasonable game, worth a try". And if you want to forge the download count to change the rating, you have to go through a lot of trouble. Besides, when you don't let that be the main factor (opinion of the player is much more important), you can't change too much.

I see it as with reviewers. With some, if they have a bad day or if they just don't like what they see, you get a negative review. So when reading reviews, I always read more to get a well weighed picture of the subject. In this case, there's only one panel that you have to trust upon. Granted that they are right most of the time, I think it's a disadvantage for the less known games..

Other than that, you can have only 5 'degrees'. From 1, not worth a try, to 5, excellent (but there are only 4..). Where do you switch from one category to another? When showing the rating based on story, graphics, sound etc, like is done with the user rating, you get a much fairer image of the game.

I'll leave this off-topic rant (actually not off topic for your game) on this thread.  Just to finish my argument... your game got compared to Trilby.. One of those games got 5 cups... ? And why does the public rate you at 83% at the moment? I say: 2 cups is not fair!  Besides that, I can't match the panel's comment with the rating.

That revives the discussion of the rating again...

I'd say to ban the panel rating and switch to a more sophisticated way of measuring. Why not take the download count combined with the rating the players can give. Let a nice formula calculate a nice figure (you can base that on experience with other games from the past, excluding this one then..). The panel can add comments, alright, but they shouldn't rate it.

The only thing a panel can do is review a game, not judge it. That also solves the problem of games not rated at all (because the panel's not interested) or very late. At the moment, the popular ones are rated quickly because the panel wants to play it. The less ones will be left aside until the panel finds the time and effort to play those.

Another issue here is the rating of "training games". I never understood what that meant. And when does the status "Newly added" change into short, medium or whatever? All will be resolved when you drop those functions of a panel.

To sum up: just leave the rating to the public. That will give a much better view for others who are looking for a nice game to play.

And even faster would be to go to my site where the walkthrough already is in English...    :)

Yep, their site is down. Oh well.....
Here you go....

I found a dead-end bug, though:

Ooohhh... nice find. I've tried a lot in that room, but not that persistent...   :-[

Both Ultimerrr and Ultimuh are available on this site amongst other parody's.

Ultimuh wasn't made with AGS though...

Since I'm a collector of Sierra games (everything pre-Vivendi), if anyone ever comes across a dump of the original tape of this old VIC20 one...

Alright, everything's back up again. You can download the game including speech pack from my site.

[update]
Just found the link to the original site..... You can grab it from there as well...

I can't upload at the moment but I know it's on the AGS Archive, because I uploaded it there. If I have acces before Peder's response, I'll report again.

@Peder: Can you move it from the bicycle backup to a reachable location?

Hmmm... strange. Normally you should be able to pull away from the window. Are you sure it's the letter X-key on your keyboard? Stupid question of course but you never know. Maybe try SHIFT-X?

If you managed to get through Shoot!, you're doing really well. For this one:

I guess you've reached the island. When you step on the stones in the middle, there should be a note flying around above the pipes, right? You didn't mention the note so I assume this.

The stones have an effect on the pipes: the stones in front of the group of pipes make the note move from pipe to pipe within the group. The stone in the middle make the note move between groups. To get the note:

Spoiler
Use the stone in the center to let the note fly to the middle pipe of the center group. Use the stone in front of the center group to make it move to the left pipe of the center group. Use the stone in the center to make the note fly to the middle pipe in the group on the right. Use the stone in front of the group on the right to make the note move to the left pipe of the group on the right. Use the same stone again and the note will go to the right pipe of the right group. Use the stone in the center again to make the note drop on the ground next to you.

With some patience you can get the 'full version' (mind you, it's slightly different from the 'commercial' one) from this site.

Well, there is some use for the ruler...
Spoiler
Look next to the coffeemachine. There's a small gap. Look at the gap to see something and use the ruler to get it out.

You're on track. Talk to the clown. What does he have and what would he like?
Spoiler
He wants a drink so give him some coffee...

But when you do that, it looks like you don't get anywhere... so:
Spoiler
Spike the coffee with some of the 'brown stuff'

You can get that...

from the window behind the todler.

But he needs distraction first:
Spoiler
Get some mud from the patch next to the clown and throw it at the todler.

If you got through Damsel, you're on the right track.  :D

Just keep going. Don't give up.  If needed ask for a hint at a forum (the hints and tips here or just drop a post on my site or look at a walkthrough (less preferred because of the spoilers). After a while you'll learn to think like the game maker and play with that in mind. Puzzles will become easier because you'll know what was meant by the author and nothing seems strange anymore.

Other than that, be creative, think outside the box and try everything: it's an adventure!

Try to start with the short ones. Take the ones from Ben304 for instance. Pretty short and the puzzles are always logical. Nothing farfetched or bizarre.

For brainteasers and -trainers it's a bit different. You see it or you don't. But again, practice a lot. Do braintraining and learn from the answers and mistakes. And before you know it, you play the games by yourself and without any help.

My first adventure was Leisure Suit Larry, about 25 years ago (yep, I'm that old and have been playing that long..  :-\) I couldn't solve it and internet wasn't around (the way it is today). So you just asked around and played together with friends to see what they could come up with. Or once in a while called into a BBS (Bulletin Board System for the youngsters ) to see if you could find answers there. That's easier nowadays.

The biggest problem is getting the right amount of information. You just want a hint without the full answer to be able to solve the puzzle yourself, but just a little push in the right direction. And that's why these forums are great! Just tell them what game you're playing, where you're stuck and how much info you'd like.

Is there a specific genre you prefer or is anything good, as long as it's an adventure?

Congrats! Great game! Good soundtrack as well..

Do you play with a LCD screen? Often it can be the angle of the screen that changes the visibility of the dialogues. I can't remember having a problem with this...
#498
Sorry about that. Jake doesn't respond to anything. Not this thread, not to PM, not to his email.
I have the feeling the game ends at day 3 and the text "Game Over" should be "to be continued.."

When you read the info from games 2 and 3, the investigator in game 2 dies as well and the mystery is to be solved in game 3. So I keep it to that unless Jake is going to tell me otherwise..

Completed Game Announcements / Re: Alpha Dog

Yeah, the second try it worked OK. Must be a similar glitch as I had with Robbing the Princess where Alec ended up on the roof (where he normally couldn't be). Had to do with the findpath routine or something. Maybe OneDollar can tell you more.

I must have a 6th sense for that. Or maybe I should try and play the lotto... I seem to be lucky at something...  ;D

Right, that solves this non-pixel hunt. It was still named fence so how on earth could you tell where to go? Of all places, I wouldn't try it next to a guard dog...  :-\
