Depending on where the event will be held:

adventurex.in/london/ or where ever it's to be... Easy to change later on.. just add another primary folder and you're done.

In version 1.1.0 I found some typos.. (the text is quite fast... maybe you can add a slider to the control panel so you can choose the speed?)

Talking to Ollie outside the Slice&Byte: Slice snd Byte --> and
Talking to Serv9000: Manfunction --> Malfunction
Talking to Desiree in the car: I forget --> I forgot

Two more things (sorry   :-\ ):

Spoiler

1: When you nail the mousehole shut before even talking to the serve9000, it's still repaired the first time
2: When replacing the chip on the chef, the chip isn't removed from your inventory.

Ok, I switched to 1.0.1 and found a small thingie (nothing to worry about but still... )

Spoiler
After giving the can of spraypaint to Buster, the dialogs are reset. I'd expect to be able to continue with the cola trick but instead he starts telling again what he's able to do with it...
[close]

Eeehhh.. oops. Found a crash..

Spoiler
I saved the game in the Khato's room, just before giving him the shaken cola. When you load the game, the start-sequence starts again, this time without Buster which results in a crash because of the FaceCharacter statement: characters are in different rooms.

Another issue that might become (very) annoying: when you press F7 or restore from the menu, without having a saved game, you see a green transparent window. That won't close or disappear. You can continue the game but it will be much harder.

Wow! Looking very promising. Trying now, telling later.

[Update]

Found a little glitch?

Spoiler
When inside the ractive and talking to the receptionist, you can change your ranking to #1. You'll then see a cutscene with Ollie and you should return to the subway.  When further in the game you change the ranking again to the same position, you're going to the subway straight away, not being able to move but able to interact with things. Eventually you'll be able to move and continue in the subway...

and in the taxi with the eye-patched lady, as soon as Jacob starts talking, you see a little image of the lady again....

Great game overall. Very well done for the first. Very solid. Please finish the other three! Graphics reminded me of Limey Lizard.  Compliments to Sebastian as well... will the soundtrack become available as well?

Another thingie (very minor): During the credit roll at the beginning, the title of the game is half off-screen. You can only read "Death Wore Endless".....

You can delete them. Just make sure you've made a backup first. Alternatively you can export just these keys prior to deleting (right click on the key and export).

Sounds to me there's a registry key left behind (not uncommon). You can start regedit and try looking in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ and your Product or Model name here. Delete that entry (the product or modelname) and try again. It could also be under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software etc. Alternatively you can start a search (F3) within regedit and search for the product/model. If this results in entries, delete them.

Please keep in mind that editing the registry can have undesired effects when deleting the incorrect entries. So make a backup of the registry first or if in doubt let an experienced user perform the action (so you can blame someone ;-) ).

There are also registry cleaners that perform the task for you but I haven't got experience with these under Vista. Hope this helps a bit.

Completed Game Announcements / Re: Heed

After playing it again (fourth time or so..) I just wondered:

When at the second pillar, realizing you missed your chance, why not have the chance of ending it all and never know what will be ahead (literally quit), or proceed as you have to do now?

About that quitting.. (and saving and loading...): a confirmation would be appreciated. Quit is very abrupt and did I really load/save?

Very sweet!

Very well done. I think I had the biggest problem with the fact that the objects you needed to use didn't have a clear mark where to use them.
Spoiler
I had to try the banana peel several times because I wasn't sure where to put it. There's no clear mark on the position in the hall to use it on and the point on the peel itself isn't clear. Then when you fail the game abruptly ends (which annoyed me the most).

Time for expansion? Clearly there are a lot of things unused in the game.

Spoiler
The vase, the carpet, the spider...

But overall I enjoyed the game very much! Hope to see a new one soon.

Looking good! I'll tell you more when I've finished the game.

[update]
Wow, good level of puzzles and story. Great fun seeing the conversations between the narrator and the main character. Nice sound effects and humor. But the 'sudden death' is a bit too much for me. I'd like to see a 'retry' or possibility to restore instead of starting the whole game again.

Btw, debug is still on.

He wasn't killed, the server that held all games died. I do have a lot of games at the moment including a copy of that server. In total you'd need roughly 15gb to server all games and futures to release. Some people already offered disk space to store them on but as long as the database is inaccessible (read: responsibility of the game maker) there's no use in putting them up other then for personal use.
#772
Maybe it's also an idea to keep the games that are added to the database (responsibility of the game maker) in a central archive so links don't get broken anymore? If the game maker doesn't want that, he/she just announces it in the Completed Games thread. In a sense the database is not only responsibility of the game maker, also of AGS (Panel/CJ?)

The bigger the database gets, the bigger this problem gets and the more difficult it gets to clean it up. I just keep bringing this up because the current situation isn't ideal.
#773
But didn't remove message? What's the use of the message anyway? Just a notification that the game couldn't be rated because of a broken link? What if a panel member discovers a broken link? Do they look for a working one or abandon the entry right away?

Then it's the wrong walkthrough ;-)  I haven't heard of any bugs in the maze yet (and it's been played quite a lot!) It all depends on where you start to count. If you go back to default settings of the maze the solution is:

Spoiler
Number all pedestals from left to right, top to bottom. The top floor has 16 pedestals, the floor below 9 and the bottom floor 4. The statues are round (R), square (S) or triangular (T). The solution:

Floor 1: 1S, 2S, 3T, 4S, 7S, 8(down)
Floor 2: 1T, 3S, 1T, 2(up)
Floor 1: 12R, 8(down)
Floor 2: 8 (down)
Floor 3: 2T, 3(up)
Floor 2: 9T, 7S, 9T, 2(up)
Floor 1: 16S, 15R, 8(down)
Floor 2: 8(down)
Floor 3: 4(down)
[close]

So it's either your sequence that's not correct or you're not using the right statue after all. If you're really sure they are both right, send me your saved game and I'll have a look.

Wow, that's neat. I never remember which channel, only the name of the show. Now it saves me some time. But the search function doesn't seem to work very well (or just very slow)??
#776
It says that it was broken the last time they tried. It doesn't say when that was.
More info on the database can be found in this thread.

General Discussion / Re: Anyone know MAME?
Wed 08/07/2009 16:52:42
Not familiar with MAME at all (just the name and the functionality, never used it), I googled and found:

QuoteA CHD file is a compressed image of the hard drive used in an arcade cabinet. Hard drives are used in arcade games because of the huge storage available on them (gigabytes!). Luckily for us the lovely Mame developers have found a way to support a compressed version of these hard drives although some can still be quite large.

At the moment there are now several games that use hard drives with sizes from 50MB up to over 2GB so make sure you have plenty of space left.

A CHD for Street Fighter III can be found here.
Hope this helps.

You don't say if the new one is a laptop or desktop...

There are several ways:

You can connect the laptop harddisk to a computer but you need a special connector for that  (we used them to maintain all field service engineers' laptops). Or do some soldering and take the cable and connector out of the laptop.

You can take the harddisk from the laptop and put it in another (borrowed) laptop that has a burner and or USB port to transfer data. If you have trouble booting from the 'old' disk in your new laptop you can make a CD that contains the complete OS (something like KNOPPIX). You can then access the files on your HD.

If there's a floppy disk on the laptop you can transfer via floppy's. A timeconsuming business but hey, how bad do you want you data?

Another option is, if you have a 25 pinned parallel port (the printer one) to create a NULL-modem cable. You can buy them or create them yourself. A great software tool to transfer the data is TotalCommander which can be used from almost any platform so regardless of the OS on your laptop or PC you can connect them (we transferred from native DOS to Windows2000 once).
This option is also available for 9 pinned serial ports by the way.

If you don't want to go through the hassle, you're not in a hurry and don't mind spending money on the stamps I can transfer the data for you. Just PM me for details.

Zipping (or Rar-ing) it to a password protected file sometimes also does the trick. Gives you compression as added value. Doesn't always work though. Depends also on the tightness of the mailserver on the receiving end.

Did you go all over the place trying to make a fire, or did you listen outside each room to find the right one?
[close]

What I did was:

Spoiler
I listened to every door to discover where the leader was. I think you shouldv'e made it more clear by responding to "listen door" instead of just "listen" because that is too general and can apply to the whole room. Once I figured out that the common "listen" was related to the position you were standing, I was on my way. The painting and the newspaper (difficult to read) were my other clues.

What I didn't know was that I had to set the plant on fire. The trouble was that you actually don't set the plant on fire deliberately but it only happens by accident when standing next to it (major flaw in my opinion). So I think is should have either been --> use rag with patrol / use soaked rag with plant / use matches with plant or soaked rag or just use matches with plant or painting (but then the petrol becomes red herring).  So I have been on fire many times and have seen the fountain up close just as many (or a bit less because I died a few times for not being quick enough :-) ).

So I cheated a bit and read the source. Once I learned I had to set the plant on fire (I tried to burn just about everything else but like said, deliberately), I already knew which one because that made the most sense.
