Super Congratulations with this release!

It's always Super to post your game here. The graphics look Super so I'll give it a Super go. Let you know when I'm finished.

[update]
Well that was Super short but... well done for a first game. The animations fitted the game so good job. Nice tune in the background. Reminded me of Neverhood.. Nice sound effects as well. Some points to improve:

Spoiler
Try to give more background info. Now I'm just in a strange room. Maybe a bit more intro with the reason (good opportunity to tell a story).
You can use the bat on the bed. That makes you hit the lamp.. ? Try to separate those to make the the puzzle a bit harder.
When done with the bat, it's not in my inventory anymore. It's vanished. Same goes for the crowbar.
Try to give more feedback when using objects on other items.
Debug mode is still on..

Overall a good solid start of what might become a longer game. Super!

But you don't have my Marty Shore Demo, though, do ya? huh, Leon, huh??

;)

I'm not a collector of semi-finished products that are conveniently called 'demo'. ;)
But if you want to know.. it's still on my hunt list because of your earlier request.   :D

Not all of them, just on request and on temporary basis. This one happened still to be there because of earlier request(s). So if you're still looking, I have thousands of games in archive.
#864
Yeah, I have a backup. I've uploaded 2.21 here.
#865
You can't attach it here. But on my site it's still available.

I got it running without addition stuff. Be sure to:

- move the qfg_all (or qfg_all_2000) folder to the root of the drive because of long pathnames and unwanted characters (like spaces etc).
- when running from DOS_BOX or other DOS emulator, use these drivers and put them in the same folder as qfg. That should get things going. If not, let me know (and then tell me what OS you're using ;-)

Good luck.

Could you leave the room? Are you still in the main hall? I can't remember seeing anything like that. Can you do anything at all?

Spoiler
You need to walk north, through the 'fire' to go the the next room.

While on the subject (again), I can't get Nightwatch running. As soon as I answer the question wether to see the intro (and no matter what my answer is), the game crashes. I've tried DOSBox, DOS 6.2 and WIN95 (the last two both on Windows Virtual PC).

Anyone with suggestions?

Ace Starkiller in: Hillbilly Burger Bastards.

For my money one of the best games made in AGS. And it's not even in the DB!

Bummer, the link doesn't work anymore. Anyone who can help me?

If you mean Escape from Evergreen forest .. I've mirrored it on my page..

Thanks Ben, didn't have that one!!

And my addition is The Farm. A very special way of interaction and very bizarre puzzles.

Sounds like fun.. Let's try it.

[update]

Well, very short. Graphics are ok, but not your own. Same goes for sound. The story could use some more elaboration and puzzles (if you can call them that) could be expanded. Now the objects you need are right in front of you.

The most difficult part to improve is the story. In your case,
Spoiler
I found the crystal before the location was mentioned so it's strange that the character is surprised that it's in the next room and I had the rose already so it just needed to be added to the water. It would be more fun to search for the water instead. I can imagine you take a branch from the tree and use it as a dowsing rod to find your water, instead of just get it handed to you. The problem is however to figure out how to tell the story first and then find the objects.

You could find the water first, water the flower bed, get the rose to prevent someone taking the rose right away. This way your water becomes crucial and can give you more grip on the actions of the player.

All in all, a good start and lots of opportunities to expand it.

Agreed that when you're new to AGS and RON, you wouldn't start with those. But the same goes for classics like Monkey Island etc. If you want to play that you'll need emulators as well.  Apart from the fact that you need to go to some trouble to install the software, it also takes (quite) some resources of your machine. What you could do is what JetXL did: make a video walkthrough of the game and archive that. If newbies want to catch up they can watch the video. If they are really interested, they can alway install the software.

I noticed that there are quite a number of good games made in the early days of AGS, not only from RON. It would be a shame not to go through the trouble of installing VPC once and enjoy the games forever.  :)

I've used Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 which is free and installed a genuine version of Windows 95 on it. I also made a virtual machine for DOS on the same installation. This way you can run the original games on the original OS'es.

Hints & Tips / Re: Feuersturm 3

FireOrange,

I don't think the problem here is where to look for the code or how to enter it. It was clear where to look and it was clear how to enter it. The problem lies within the language. Let me try to explain:

In the German language you have a thing called cases (Kasus in German). It's a terror to learn when you're non-German speaking because there are 8:   nominative, genitive, dative, accusativecase, vocative, ablative, locative and instrumentalis. The last 4 aren't frequently used so skip those.

Then you need to know if a pronoun is masculine, feminine, neuter or plural. Depending on these facts you base the cardinal number or article preceding the subject.

In your case, you're mixing the number 'eins' (translated 'one') and articles/cardinal numbers ein/einer/eines/einem (translated 'a'). It's like you want to use the word 'a' for the number 1 as well. For non-German speakers is it very confusing.

In your game, we expected only the number one (eins) and not the articels/cardinal numbers ein/einer/eines/einem. You are right that they all translate to the same 'single' item, but it's just how it's written. In such cases it's safer to take higher numbers (skip the one and two). With the 8 and the 11 there wasn't an issue.

Hope this helps and also clarifies the problem for non-German speakers.

Yeah I know, and einer, eines, einem and all variations. I thought it were only the real numbers you were looking for... I know, shortsightedness of the non-german-speaker..  ;D
This might become a problem if you ever want to translate it into English... although... one, gone, none, done... enough possibilities :-)

Great game (again), by the way. Good puzzles (apart from the numbercruncher  ;))

Thanks for that. But then.....

Spoiler
...you should say that 1 is EIN, EINE or EINS not just EINS...

This would have taken me very long...  Aparantly I took the translation too literally.   :-[
Oh well, on with the story, sorry for bugging you.  :)

Es tut mir leit,  but I fail to see any repetition. The only thing repeated
Spoiler
is the one at the end (11=double 1). I've tried lots of combinations with these numbers but I can't see any logical explanation for the code. There aren't any words in the text that indicate a repetition of a number.

Any more suggestions/hints?

I did that. If I only take the ones from the 'translation' list, I can only find 3:

Spoiler
Die großen Häuser verfallen dem Glühen, wechseln vom Rot ins Schwarz.
Gigantische Gebilde von einst sind auf einen Slag verschwunden - die Erde hat sie zu zich gerufen.
Traumhaft gefertigte Gärten verlieren an Beachtung.
Im Mittelpunkt steht nun das Feuer. Meine Ehrfuhr wächst, ich sehe die Welt sterben.
Niemand Weiß zich zu helfen.

The questions:

- Is this the right poem?
- How many numbers should I be looking for?
- Should they be litteraly there or also interpreted?
