My idea would be to use a parser system for dialogues. This way the player can ask about all the things he is interested in und doesn`t get bothered by too many dialogue options he has to click trough in LucasArts-styled dialogs. I think about making my own game playable completely without a mouse, but with a parser system instead.

"Just after you got thrown into a boiling pot to be cooked for all eternity, the devils shows up and wants to welcome you to eternal damnation. He walks to a huge organ and slowly starts playing something that could be called a hellish rock`n roll song. As he gets faster and faster, he even starts to sing about how he will love to torture you. Just as you thought it`s over, he grabs a huge guitar and starts to blow up your ears with thundering guitar sounds while all kinds of demons start to dance around the pot."

For some reason I totally like the look of your original sprite. It has it`s very own style and the bright colors really fit to the character in my opinion. It reminds me of old cartoons in black and white. I wouldn`t have changed anything at all, because I don`t like how the new version has very dark colors (leather suit) and very bright colors (face) at the same time.  ;)

I had way too much freetime today, I almost finished my song already.  ;D
It is some kind of hellish soundin rocknroll song with a vocal melody the devils sings while torturing you, but you will have to imagine the lyrics. xD
Would such a song be ok or too off-topic?

Edit: Duh, I just saw the last sentence in the first post. Okay, I think it will be alright. XD

Hell yeah! This sounds fun. I`m in!  ;D

Sorry for being so late.  ;)
I totally forgot about this little contest.

Viking: A really great song that has a special charme that I can`t describe... however, it`s awesome. The bad guy with such a theme could fit into a less serious jump`n run game. It reminded me of those old, wonderful N64 games for some reason, like Banjo Kazooie or Conker. It could belong in those games in my opinion.

Dualnames: You managed to create a very dark and unpleasant athmosphere with that song that could belong right into some creepy horror game. But to be honest, it doesn`t really sound like the scenario that you explained. It made me think more of a dark, ancient tomb where you have to solve creepy puzzles as Indiana Jones. But still, it gets the job very well done as an ambient tune.

Nikolas: Made me think of action packed, side scrolling SNES arcade games where you have to blow up gigantic robot bosses and blast all kinds of enemies that attack you from every possible angle. Very very awesome, even if the main riff repeats too much in my opinion. But that normally doesn`t bother me at all in video game music.

Phemar: I love all kinds of metal, so I enjoyed this just as much as ShiverMeSideways` song. It has very interesting and great melodie starting the first time at 00:37. The drums that come in at the second time it appears after the little breakdown makes it even more awesome. Great song, very well done. But it sounds just like a normal metal song (a very good one of course, I would love to hear it with real instruments), not something that I would expect in a videogame. But that`s probably just me.

Le Woltaire: This song really caught my attention. It has a very special charme and the mood in that song is great, it certainly made me want to fight a baguette-throwing french bad guy. But I would have loved to hear a faster, danceable and more vivid part  somewhere in the song, for example when the fight could begin.

Daremer: Yes, THAT could very well be the the song for a goofy boss. I imagined a crazy scientist in a jump`n run game that jumps and dances around in madness and wants you dead.
Also, at some parts it made me think of some electronic sounding pop songs that you hear on the radio (especially when the synthesizer tune appeared), there was just a vocalized woman voice missing. Very well done, but it was a bit too short for me.

And my vote goes to VIKING, because the song has such a unique charme that appealed to me and sounded like it could really belong into a big, commercial game.
It was very hard to choose, there were so many great songs. If I would be able to pick more than one favorite, I would do it.

I already played the first one a while ago, and this one here is even more fantastic than the first one. I jumped everytime when this loud noise appeared and everything went dark. I found it fascinating how even those simple graphics could create such a dark athmosphere and immersion into the story.
But: Worst cliffhanger ever!! I want to see how it ends ... NOW!!!

I love midis, so I made one.  ;)
I didn`t want to make it sound extremely creepy or aggressive, but rather sneaky. The bad guy I imagined was always calm and polite, which you are supposed to hear in the calm part in the middle of the song, but whenever you turn your back he attacks you and reveals his true nature, which you can hear at the second half.

Also, the song is full of pizzicato strings, mainly because I thought that this instrument fits the melodies and the mood of the song very well.  ;)
I like how it turned out. Let me hear some critics.  ;)

The mood in that song is very well done. I can imagine everything very well and it feels very mighty and oppressive.
The little riff at 0:57 reminded me a lot of A New Level by Pantera.
But I think that your songs would sound a lot better if you would just use a normal midi format. The synthesized Guitar Pro 5 guitars sound strange. Midi songs sound also a lot more videogamelike in my opinion.  ;)

By the way, my song is pretty much finished, but I am still a bit unsure if I add a little bit or not. It drives me insane.

I want to play this so badly, I love the stories in the greek mythology so much.  :D
Also, the backgrounds look very unique and charming and appeal to me. Please keep that style troughout the game.

I think I`ll join.  ;D

Wow. I am totally blown away by this song. Simply beautiful.  ;D
Hard to say something more specific, there were so many great harmonies and melodies that appeared troughout the song.
You really managed it to create a fantastic, chilling and surreal athmosphere, I imagined the beginning of an epic fantasy movie while listening to this song. I also loved the little melody that came in around 01:52, among many others.

Did you use soundfonts? I write music too and I would love to use some of them.

Wow, those AGI screens are fascinating. I am totally blown away right now.  :o
Incredible what athmosphere huge pixels and 16 colors still can create.

@Xellie
Thanks so much!  :D
My only problem would be that I am not able to finish to finish one single song.  ;)

@theRedPress
I created them in Guitar Pro 5, which can create normal midi files to play the notes I made. I have no idea what could have gone wrong.

First, I am german and my english could sound a little sloppy, so let me warn you.  ;)

My dream is to make an adventure game with AGS. I have already made a lot of games with that program in 2004/2005/2006, but none of them ever got finished, mostly because of my unorganised approach. So I am thinking about plans for a new one where I won`t do all my old mistakes. But there seems to be a problem I encountered during my thoughts about the story line...

I seem to DISLIKE adventure games with complex stories.
The King`s Quest and Quest for Glory series were the games I enjoyed the most, but I could never really become interested in games like Gabriel Knight or other ones that got praised for their complex storylines.
I actually never needed a complex story while playing. The things that most appealed to me in my favorite games were actually the simple stories (explore the lands, solve the three tasks blablabla...) and the interesting and mystic places you could explore everywhere and that offered you lots of interaction. Even the deaths were something I loved, it made the games more unpredictable and interesting. I guess it was also the overal athmosphere that those games could create that kept me playing. The graphics didn`t even need to look good, even Kings Quest 3 and 4 could create that athmosphere.

But I heard countless times that the Sierra adventures are very disliked among many adventure fans.
Which is a problem for me, because those games were always my main inspiration for my own games and of course I want to make a game that people like to play.
Am I just strange or are there other people who think the same?
What would you expect from a game that uses the same ingridients as the early Sierra adventures?

Thanks a lot.  ;D
The retro feeling is something I want to achieve with those midis. I think they have a special charme that modern videogame music can`t recreate.

Edit: I fixed the broken links. Mediafire seems to have some strange issues right now.

I have been writing videogame music since quite a while that I would love to put into a game I will maybe make with AGS.
Of course I also write traditional music, but I think music for videogames would fit better into an adventure game forum.
I also want to say that none of those songs are finished.

Feel free to listen to some of them and please tell me your opinion. (=

Those 3 midis were originally intended for a Doom-like shooter. That`s why they are very fast and straight-forward.
Action 1
Action 2
Action 3

This one was inspired by Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. I tried to make it sound very dark and athmospherical. Just imagine you are Indy and discover an ancient grave.
Indy

This one could be heard during some kind of creepy voodoo ritual or something.
Ritual

I composed this one after playing some King`s Quest. Just imagine a huge giant stomping towards you.
Giant

Those would fit right into some kind of cozy little pub like in Quest for Glory.
Pub 1
Pub 2

This was supossed to be a theme song for a game. The melody could still be improved, it sounds too unstructured in my opinion.
Theme Song

I would like to use this as a theme song for an old, senile and quirky wizard.
