These are cool. It's pretty interesting how you can fool your brain like that... Another thing you should try is a little application that floats around the net called Virtual LSD (don't really know where to get it, but you can always google it or ask me to mail it to you).

And I rule at looking cross-eyed!!!

I read somewhere a document by the lead designer of CMI where he wrote exactly how they worked with the backgrounds. Don't remember where though but I think I got the link from someone around here. It was probably one and a half year ago or so though.

Welcome to the oldies club, Dave. Think about 1998. Not that long ago, right? Just. Uhm... FIVE YEARS!?!? Ahg!

Oh, when playing adventures when I was a kid I barely knew half of the words... I think I've learned most of my english from adventure games... Fuck school.

Doesn't sound good with your dad, Yufs. Just try giving him any support you can.

If you still need a composer, I'll be happy to volunteer. And no boy band songs. Promise.

Seems like a promising project!

I'll have a few of those as well. Gotta eat our vegetables, fellas!

Hmm... What do you have in Poland? Cheap drugs?

Well spoken, DGM!

Oh, KQ5 on floppies...
On the Amiga as well.

I think the first 256 colour games I played were World Class Leader Board and Mean Streets (still love that game!). Both also had synthesized speech(!) through the internal speaker. Just imagine the possibilities!
I remember my dad's first computer cost 18000SEK (about $1800) and was a 286 with 3.5'' floppy and VGA screen (640x480!!!). Top of the line at the time. He even got this huge printer that shook our whole house when running... Playing all those old great Sierra titles. Police Quest is an all time favorite, of course.

The problem with going back in time, though, is that you'll always end up in the future anyway...

Well, Yufster, 20 years or now. Time just passes faster the older you get... All I want to say is that one should at least _think_ about the alternatives, not just stick to one large corporation.

But saying Mr Gates or Microsoft is evil is not very constructive, you've definately got a point there. I think it has a lot to do about people's frustration. Things don't work as they should and you have to find a scapegoat. Bill Gates is such a celebrity in the buisiness that it's natural to blame him. He's probably as nice a person as anyone around here, living out his dreams, but there are still things about large corporations trying to control the industry that troubles me, especially if they're close to succeed.

(or I've just read too much SF for my own good ;) )

Trap: Well, if there wasn't Internet... Oh, we could go far on that subject. Sure it's kind of a trend, especially in circles of 15 year old 1337 |-|4(|<32Z, but I think it's more to do with people's frustration, as I stated above.

Uh, has this discussion gone far out of topic or what? :)

PS Sorry for bitching with you, Yufster, hope you don't take it personally!

I think that's an Eric-On-A-Boomstick. Want to taste some of mine?

Oh, don't get me there...
Well, at least Phillip Morris and Nestlé don't install spyware on my computer. Yet.
Ok, sorry, saying Microsoft is fucking evil was a bad way of putting things. What I mean is that their crave for better budget is starting to go out of hand, as for many other companies.

Heard anything about the Palladium/TCPA project?
That's scary stuff...

Interesting reading:

Make what you want out of it.

Oh, who said Apple were saints?

Well, of course Li'l Bill needs people who love him, don't we all?
But Microsoft IS BEEP evil.

Good thoughts, Yufster. Backgrounds are a pain in the ass after a while... The problem I get is that I just HAVE to see what they look like when finished once I've started drawing one. And that I'm not extremely good at drawing so making them look good takes some time.

What usually makes me want to puke in amateur games (and pro ones too, sometimes) is interface. If you really want a Sierra style, or old Lucasart/film style, interface, make sure you make use of it. Personally I like simpler interfaces better, both making and playing. Saves a lot of time making all these interactions as well... Intuitive is the key word, but not always easy to accomplish. Oh, the glory days of Broken Sword (BS3 for PS2 coming soon!)...

Sure, count me in. I'll probably be that mysterious tall dark guy who nobaby dares speaking to.
Tell me if you need a pic or a blowjob or something. PM is good.

I'll probably be there, unless I'll have to work.
It's going to be odd actually meeting you guys. I'll bring my favorite axe (it's in the suitcase on your left).

My computer is actually way too crappy and my system way too unstable to do anything on right now. Plus I have one of those fancy studio sound cards, so a computer mic won't do the trick. I planning on buying one or two mics pretty soon, as well as a new damn computer...

I figure Yufster's attracted to older rich men, so you can all stop hitting on her now (I doubt there are any either old or rich men in the amateur adventure community... oh, I'm of course rich and ridiculously handsome, but I'm not old and will probably die young).

;)

Wicked, man! Don't give up this fight!

Your parents seem to be little overprotective but I guess that's just what some parents are like (I could just spit out some of my prejudices against american middle class here, but I won't...). Either you swallow it or you spit it out. Holly seems to need someone who cares for her (don't we all?) so try in any way you can to do that. And don't think you'll never see each other. If there's love, there's hope. This might be teenage love or anything, but why would teenage love matter less than any other love?

Hehe, I guess my voice isn't Nick Carter's...
And yeah, it might be a little too electronic, but for research I listened to some productions and they actually use a lot of those effects although not as distinct as in mine.
I agree it sounds a lot like ESC, we've got a great word for that in Sweden: Schlager. I've been thinking about sending this to them but I'll have to shorten it down to 3 mins.

Yufster: Well, my 'school' is actually a university so ambitions there are a little higher.

Neole: Thanks! Producing on a budget level is really a lot about pushing the equipment you've got as far as possible to reach the desired goal. I think people today are way too focused on equipment and too little on listening and finding a working technique with what you've got.

Jannar: That idea sounds real cool. I don't know how much studio access I will have during the summer though. I'll try to get some time though.

Oh, I see my own situation in this a lot so I understand very clearly how you feel and what you're going through. On the one hand you miss all the good you actually had but on the other you're very disappointed at her and despise her for the pain she's brought to you.

It is a hard situation but I think you've come a long way just by talking about it. Writing down your thoughts like this is sometimes a good way of dealing with a hard situation.

What you should do is just go on with your life without her. If she wants to sort the situation out then let her try and do so but then you'll both have to be totally honest and transparent with how you feel. Make sure she understands it's not just about saying 'sorry', but about really getting deep into the problem. She seems to have some loose ends to tie herself, behaviours as such doesn't come without its reasons. Probably has something to do with childhood, parents or former relationships. Maybe in a year or two or five you two will get together, sort things out and become friends again. As mr Macphee said, people change and so will both of you.

As I said, my situation is quite similar. More like DGM's story though. Things started to get real bad once we moved together to an apartment in a small crappy village. We're still not friends again and I still miss her a LOT sometimes but through all this I've gained a lot; I've changed. Hopefully in some ways to the better...

Uh, I could ramble on with this forever, so I'll just end it here... Period.
