I also prefer your first one, it really has a lot of character!

If you want to have some kind of eyes, you could take the DEATH (read with an intonation as if each letter is a falling tombstone) approach:

Like this you can even convey some emotion.

Shoot, I haven't noticed your update up until now and I already edited your last sprite!

I like the new cleaned up version shape-wise, but I must say that I preferred your old colour scheme.

Anyways here is my edit:

I made the outline of the head more consistent to the body.
I also added som features to the wheeles and tracks. I know you want to keep it simple, and right you are, but I think the details will help you convey some motion during animation, so it will not look like the little guy is floating over the ground.

Also did a paintover of Eve to make her more consistent to Wall-E outline- and size-wise.

EDIT: Sorry for mucking up your colours, must have happend somewhere along the line of working on it with my Mac and GIMP and the PC and PS, oh well!

A Wall-E game, loving it!

I really dig the simple style and IMHO you nailed the dusty, used atmosphere of the post-apocalyptic, junkyard Earth.

But I think your sprite could use a little more contrast to set it apart from the BG.
Here is a wee paintover to demonstrate what I mean:

I also added some more detail and tried to tweak the perspective a bit.

Great fun playing around with a style your not used to...

Peter Rankin is one of those Kids that really enjoy having no parents around telling them to at least wash once a week... revelling in ones own bodily odors... ehem well, yes.

didn't quite turn out as intended, but here it is anyways:

It was supposed to be a ghoulish kind of martial arts dude... thing, whatever.
Alas, it ended up looking rather camp!

It has been way too long...

EDIT: Sorry, It is he... from Tony Tough and the Night of Roasted Moths

One either thoroughly enjoys the game or one goes utterly bonkers.
I've played it and am still undecided about the whole experience... you may be the judge of that! ;)

I'm totally with Gilbot concerning the consistency issue.
Try to keep to one style.

Sorry couldn't really finish this 'cause of severe lack of time:

- even if you're using DOTTish perspective, try to approximate a vanishing point. Use something like the floor elements.

- use foreground objects to give the BG some depth (but not like mine, they're really crappy)

my paint-over could really need some more work, but hopefully it gives you some ideas.
Keep up the good work - hope to see your game finished soon!

Hey, nice sprite there, but I think his legs are a bit featureless. The front view suggest far baggier trousers than you've portrayed in the side view. His hair falls quite unnaturally, so I gave him a ponytail with some kind of silver ring or whatever. I also pushed some pixels in his face and arm, but I don't think it came out quite that well.

Sorry, not that good a paint-over, but it should give you an idea of what I'm on about.

First of all: This is a damn good sprite!

I know you probably would not see his left hand from that angle, but I still thought it looked strange without. So I put his left hand in his pocket showing of his Bling!
It also underlines his pompousness, if that is what you want to achieve.

I also got rid of some inconsistencies of the outlines, but I guess that is just a matter of preference.

I see LimpingFish beat me to the chase with a simular idea.
But I tried to keep it as close to your style as possible.

So here it goes:

Tried to make all the letters more readable and of simular weight!

Sorry chaps, yesterday I was unexpectedly busy work wise!

But here is the run down:

Bohnito: Great Arthur you've got there. You absolutly nailed the pose and you did a cool job of his face with just a few pixel!

ProgZmax: All of them fantastic as always. But if you don't mind I'd like to only take the Boba Fett into consideration. With him you managed to recreate the DOTT style with a lot of nice detail!

EdLoen: I really like your take on Lea. You're probably right about the hands and I'm also not to sure about her boobs, but I somehow like the overall look!

cobra79: Not DOTT style, but who cares at the end of the day! You've done really good considering the resolution! The only crit would be to give him a little more contrast.

SpacePirateCaine: I don't know what you're on about, I think your incarnation of Marvin is great. I can't find anything to crit. Good job!

Renegade Implementor: You've got a good clean set there. Very simple, but functional!

TheJBurger: Wow, look at the detailing! Fantastic pixeling. But the big cartoony head and the realism don't go too well together, but still a great sprite!

radiowaves: Superb lighting! Very realistic. Somehow I always liked the movie Marvin. Is he cutting toast?

Tiki: Pity you didn't finish it, I thought you were off to good start.

Now, this is going to be a tough one:

I've just chosen an overall winner and didn't go for an individual second or third place, because they're all so very good. So the second place goes to all of you except
SpacePirateCaine, who won!

Congrats SpacePirateCaine, somehow your sprite just did it for me, but just.

hey buloght, any chance of seeing one of your excellent sprites for this compo!?

Still some time left, I'm going to close this in ooh let's say 5 h from now.
#193
@EdLoen: Hey, I'd like to see her finished anyhow. She looks very promising, even if not very DOTTish.

Who wouldn't have loved to play a really good 2D point n click adventure of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy!? Well I would have! So, it is your task to breathe pixely life into the characters of the whole series.

And since there is only a limited amount of characters in that SiFi series, I give you an extra outer spacy bonus: Gimme Star Wars DOTT style! In C&C I've seen some of you doing a great job on the Maniac Mansion sprites.

So I announce: HHGTTG vs Star Wars

Keep in the size of 150x150 pixels.
You may use up to 32 colours.

In short:

2D Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy characters (in the style you prefer, just stay within the restrictions)
or
Star Wars (DOTT style)

You may do both but clarify which is your actual entry.
#195
Hey thanks, SpacePirateCaine!

But you're absolutely right about her chest. Looking at the sprite again I think I went a bit Lara Croft on her!

I really thought KhrisMUC would win this one. Great composition, and I totally dig the colour scheme!

Ok, I'll start a new jam right away...
#196
Long time no sprite...

...but got inspired by this great topic and had some time.

So here it goes:

#197
OK, gASK you win!
Hopefully your topic'll be more inspiring!
#198
Some of you may remember these guys from a sprite jam in a galaxy far far away...

Well, how about spriting them a space craft, glider or general flying thing?

Following rules must be obeyed:
- the two aliens must be sitting, standing in the air craft or be otherwise attached to it
- the aliens may be changed to suite your own style, but they should still be recognisable
- there are no size or colour restrictions, but keep it sensible so that the sprite could be used in a game

sprite and obey
#199
Yay, I won!

Actually had great fun making those sprites, so thanks for the topic and choosing my sprite!

I'll see if I can come up with a new topic in the next few minutes (while I'm still at work and fully connected, net-wise)...

"Good idea, but I've got nothing to keep it in place!"

> use unleaded ant-eater with lighter

"Hey, a DIY blow torch!"
