Actually I think that it could be a good idea to combine mouse movement and keyboard presses.

But then how would one possibly drink beer while playing? :-\

Shadow Of The Comet!!!

A very good but very frustrating Lovecraft-themed game released waaaaaaaaay back in 1992.

The game has an amazing story, a great Lovecraftian mood, but suffers from a rather broken interface and a severe lack of telegraphing hints: You can be within a hair's-breadth of the right solution to a puzzle and the game will just sit there and stare at you.

If you can struggle through the interface issues and don't mind probably using a walkthrough now and then, you should find a game full of mystery, horror, chaos, paranoia and just good old Lovecraft themes, in a town which actually feels quite alive and vivid with its cast of rather eccentric characters...

Unlike a lot of Lovecraft stuff however you WILL actually get to confront some of the horrible entities full-on: The horrors don't hide in the shadows as just vague hints forever: which is also refreshing for a change...

I won't provide links here as I'm not sure of the policy in AGS of links to certain sites, but I'm sure a quick google search will find you some downloads...Or PM me if you need more help finding it ;)

EDIT: Oh and make sure you get the full CD version as it has full voice acting and sound effects which the floppy disc version lacks...

Completed Game Announcements / Re: Providence

This looks amazing from the screenshots! I also will be taking a look first chance when I have the time!

One thing: You might want to give a general genre and/or slight story intro in the first post. No spoilers of course, but let people know if they are in for a comedy...a drama...a horror story...etc

Not knowing what kind of story the game has might turn some people off from giving it a try, which really looks like it would be a shame. This might all be in the trailer, but some people might not want to or be able to view the trailer for various reasons.

(Ah...I see on the game page that it's defined as a drama. It's still probably a good idea to mention this in your first post and also give a little bit of back story.)

You might also want to explicitly say that this game was created with AGS. As it's in the AGS archives I know this sounds like a no-brainer but somebody will probably ask you this question in this thread pretty soon...

One thing I really, really hate about these Hobbit films is Legolas and his uberness!!!

I mean he wasn't even supposed to be in the story and they make him the most powerful character in the whole thing?! What is he supposed to be: the Superman of elves?!

He's pretty uber in LOTR as well but in The Hobbit he is just...freaking...unstoppable! WHY is he so uber? None of the other elves are as good at stuff as him. Jesus, if all elves were like Legolas they could have just done a frontal assault on Mordor in LOTR and won hands down! Does he eat Super Mario powerups for breakfast or something???

It's never explained.

It's stupid adding in Legolas also because there is zero suspense for his well-being as we KNOW he survives. Sure, this is true of Bilbo's character as well but that is unavoidable. It's totally avoidable with Legolas by just not having him in the movie!!! What...did Orlando Bloom have pictures of Peter Jackson's furry fetish to blackmail his way into the movie with?!

It's basically just really bad fan-fiction.

I'm waiting for movie makers to wake up from the current cgi hysteria, where everything has to be over the top, over spectacular and just over-epic.

Game of Thrones is the only fantasy I can watch these days, because it looks and feels authentic, and it's not about super hero ninja elves flying around being awesome or a million computer generated monsters, oh and remember when you played with transformers and it had like ten moving parts and could turn into a truck? Well in the movies every robot has 250000 moving parts, to the point where it's nothing less than a giant organic metal alien god, even though it can STILL ONLY TURN INTO A FREAKING TRUCK.

Too. Much. Of. Everything.

EXACTLY!!!!

I was just talking with my wife today about how the movie Avatar finally and thankfully KILLED OFF the IMPRESSIVE SPECTACLE SF CGI movie genre!!! By just being the biggest and most expensive CGI 3D in YOUR FACE movie of all time, without actually having any kind of story

And about how the new SF had to be all about story and characters for a while after the massacre of Avatar on the genre...Just like it used to be...

Just after Avatar came out and I was already predicting the demise of big budget SF movies as we know them...A little indie SF film called "Moon" came out: It was low budget (it used models instead of CGI for the "effects" scenes) it was actually intelligent plot-wise, and it had a thought-provoking message to tell along the way in that...

SPOILERS:
Spoiler
Human beings are really just spare parts in the eyes of powerful corporations, and are as easily replaceable as any other broken bit of machinery.
[close]

And I thought: THANK GOD FOR AVATAR!!! It's killed off every chance that another CGI blockbuster can satisfy audiences with their over-the-top effects (and rehashed plots) and now we get to go back to some actual growth and good story-telling from Hollywood...

RIGHT?!...

AWWWWWW CRAP!!!

I would love to test this as a person who knows the kanji!

I played the original game and thought at the time what a great learning tool it could be in classrooms teaching Japanese around the world!

The kids get to play a game and have fun learning for once!
#10070
AWESOME!!! I was hoping that you weren't just experimenting with styles and that there was an actual game behind it all!

I want to play it yesterday...So get it out ASAP or you're gonna have a WAAAAAAHmegeddon on your hands from me! (laugh)

Managed to get to the 1st boss... my nerves are a wreak, my hand hurts and I've cursed a lot... And when I finally was getting used to the controls... you add a new control... 8-0

Hahaha...because everyone knows Cassie just LOVES games that require reflexes... 8-0

One thing I found useful early on was:

Spoiler
In most cases early on you can just jump right on top of enemies with the bat readied and nail them instantly when you land, and it usually doesn't matter which way you are facing, and they can't shoot you while you're flying above them through the air. In fact I rarely used the gun at all until the first boss fight.

That's a useless warning. I have no idea why AGS feels it necessary to warn about that.

I know right?! I solved this "issue" for a guy in Beginners questions by basically telling him to solve it just make sure debug mode is turned off when he releases the game, otherwise don't worry about changing anything. (laugh)

WONDERFUL! Mandle!!!
it's ... it's... CYBERPUNK!!!!!!!

There is no spork
#10074
I just updated my original post up there ^^ with my entry instead of making a new one because I liked the toadying-to-the-king tone of the original too much...

I will probably re-work just a bit the central spork character before the deadline to make him a bit smoother and more plasticky, but for now, if it pleases thee justly, take in The Sad Tale Of The Wilted Spork...

EDIT: The reworking is done to mine satisfaction oh great and wise King Fork, I hast worked mine fingers to their very bones rethreading this tapestry in just the right configuration to try to capture the sporkiest spirit of mine protagonist, as unworthy as my efforts may have proven to be...

So yeah, in other, normal-world words...That's my entry into this competition right up there under the first post ^^

AAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!! It's AprilSkies!!!
RUN EVERYONE!!! He will EAT US ALL!!!
(And use our children as hors d'oeuvres!!!)

Done and done... my poor attempt to a banner was so ashamed of it's self that it buried it's head in the sand. And no matter what I tell it, I can't convince it to enter the competition... (roll)

Awwwww, I was just joking! Come on Cassie: It's always an honour to compete against the best whatever the outcome. I'm going to throw my own effort into the sacrificial pit today or tomorrow. Dare you to join me :P

Thanks :D It was a bare attempt to create something similar to an aurora borealis... Definitely too green! (laugh)

Oh, hahaha, I actually felt it was supposed to be a twist ending meaning that:

Spoiler
You were on a different planet all along, which I started to think when the radio operator's call-sign was "Earthling"...

Heraldic coat-of-arms of the Royal Family of the Grand Gourmands.

[imgzoom]http://i.imgur.com/XK0ImP8.png[/imgzoom]

As you can see, the shield is divided in four in order to create different fields to accommodate emblems or figures as a result of marriage alliances, inheritance, concessions and pretensions of domains.
You can clearly see coat-of-arms of the Grand Gourmands family (Top-left), of the Mustache Chefs family (top-right), of the Holy Cake Empire (bottom-left) and of the Sacred Fried Chicken Realm (bottom-right).

AAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!! It's AprilSkies!!!

Thank you Aikex for a great theme and a fun competition!!! Congratulations to the winners: All very well deserved!!!

And I can't wait to see what theme Mr. OUXX will come up with for the next one: If it's something I can work into my current project then I will be up for it again for sure!
#10079
About half finished here...

The Tale Of The Wilted Spork is starting to come together...
#10080
Good to hear it!

I just finished the game and it was great! I love the chunky graphics vs the subtle gradient of the moonlight. I don't think I've ever seen that done before...

Story was simple but also quite sweet:

Spoiler
I expected the organism to rip through the floor and eat me. I guess I've seen The Thing too many times...
