Oh I get it:
Spoiler
berated = B-rated
[close]

And the rest of it has just hit me:
Spoiler
Negative value = lack (as in lacking some quality)
Positive execution = well (as in done or executed well)

Thus: Blackwell :-)
[close]

100% correct!!! I'm gonna split credit for this win between HanaIndyana and Stupot+

Well done big brains!

Okay....next please!

Crap...did I choose a lame theme for my one shot at hosting a contest??? :~(

I do! I do!
But I need to finish the BG blitz first... so I probably won't make the deadline. And it's not crap, it's pretty cool!

Sweet! I suspect you're just too busy with Valentines' romance, but...

Let's extend the deadline a tad! Let's say until February 18th!

And cheers Pindo and Matti for the awesome work!!! And thanks Cassie for the kind words as well: Cheered me up when I needed it :-[

I've got nothing, but could the 'rating' part have something to do with stars (or cups)?

Not at all...

In fact:

Spoiler
HanaIndyana already cracked what the "rating" means in their formula

Any lack of quality in a game should be berated even if done well, provided that the rating is considered ahead of the negative value of the work and the positive execution added as an afterthought (9)

Looks like time for a hint:

What is the order of the puzzle?
Spoiler
The rating comes first, then the negative value of the work, and then the positive execution last

Well, I had my first classes yesterday after the winter break and I introduced the project to my class...

And I've never seen them so excited about a class project before! At the end of the class I almost couldn't get them to leave: They just wanted to keep talking about ideas for puzzles.

This seems to have made its way into a user-quote on the website quoted as "a school teacher"...

I couldn't be happier!!!

Thanks to whoever linked doctorfou to this quote or to doctorfou himself (or herself) if they are an AGS forums browser...

EDIT: Oh and also...I'm going to be submitting my monday class' project on wednesday after just a bit more polishing...We did the final class playthrough today and everyone was very satisfied...I feel it's a very entertaining game and I'm very excited about the release...I will provide the link here if it is hosted on the site...

Nope...

I have looked over the puzzle again and, while it has multiple layers, with some synonym-based thinking somebody should hit that moment where it all becomes obvious in a flash of inspiration...

(Probably Stupot+...This is exactly the kind of puzzle he will obsess over while teaching bratty Japanese kids)

(But HanaIndyana came very, veeeeerrryyy close with the formula)

I've found another quite good Lovecraft game:

https://thelastdoor.com/index.php/menu

You have to pay to download the game, but it can be played online for free. It comes in several Chapters and is point-and-click. The graphics are lovely, blocky retro style. The puzzles are kind of basic so far (I've played 2 chapters) but the story is good and the atmosphere is excellent!

The game is flash-based online, so make sure you push the 3 key to switch to full-screen, and I would also advise pushing the 1 key to change the font type as I found the alternative font nicer than the blocky one. Like they advise on the site: Play fullscreen, put on your headphones (the game has stereo sound that's used very effectively to find what's making certain sounds and this works best with headphones...the game has an option for the hearing disabled as well (push the 2 key)), crank up the volume and turn off the lights for the scariest experience...And yeah, despite the blocky graphics style there are quite a few good effective scares to go along with the slow-boiling horror story...

And yeah, it has many different language versions to choose from, and I mean many! The English translation is the one I can vouch for: It's good, not perfect, but good enough. The original version was made in Spanish.

Anyways: well worth a play!

I just finished playing the last of the entries, and WOW it's hard to decide on voting order: The level of all entries is just so high this month!

I'm going to have to go with Mess Goblins for my #1 vote though as it is a complete game of a good length, and is also charming, funny, and looks just beautiful.

For #2 I'm going to choose All Gone Soon as it really stuck in my mind storywise, and also I got some genuine laughs out of the funny parts, and felt genuinely sorry for the characters during the sadder bits. The bonus material also provided a great insight into themes that lie just beneath the surface of a deceptively simple-looking story.

My #3 slot goes to Starlit Grave for its awesome retro graphics and slick animation and all around look and feel. The music is awesome too!

A Landlord's Dream was a great glimpse at what looks like a much bigger story and I'm very much looking forward to seeing what that story turns out to be.

The poet's name is James Douglas Morrison... or "Jim"...  :P

As a much younger man I had the honour to visit this man's grave in Paris before he was evicted for disturbing the peace even whilst resting in it...

The Lizard King has always been one of my idols...

He can do anything!

I think this one is so easy for the giant brains we have working on this stuff that I'm not even going to insult you all with a context... (letter count added)

For now...

Well ... there is another possibility that involve rituals of occult and which could justify the strange wind ...   (roll)
But I'm not sure whether this would be plausible argument to annul the result of the contest ...

Well, maybe he did, maybe he didn't. :P I still think you're the rightful winner, if nothing else just for figuring out the 'pizza cradle' and 'dystopian future' parts!

Pizza cradle was the toughest (as I'm a huge fan of Terry Gilliam films) because there actually exists a product called "Pizza Cradle" so of course, like a dummy, I read their entire site looking for hidden hints before realizing the obvious answer... (laugh)

This also made me aware of an interesting-looking game I didn't know about so thanks for that!
