Sometimes I'll be surfing the net and I get this official looking microsoft window message pop up. I suspect this is some evil spam type advert.

So, is it weirdly genuine? If not, isn't there any way of stopping it from interrupting me? I was just on a site when this came up and chucked me off the net page I was on!

So I press cancel and this window comes up:

So i close the whole thing down as I don't trust it one bit.

but you know, I really DO have some kinda trouble with my internet!

Let me know if this is too long nd i'll try to cut some of it out.

McDonalds. What are they hiding from us? They must be hiding something. They always do. Like in India when customers were assured that their fries were vegetarian when they contained beef fat. (Which may no longer be the case after massive law suits etc)

Our two lead characters in this story discover a terrible secret about McDonalds...

You start here:

NARRATOR: Big Bubba loves his food. More so, he loves McDonald's food. He eats burgers there everyday. As a result of no

excercise and unhealthy eating he is a very large man. Today he has come to McDonald's with his best friend, Mike, a paranoid

geek whose curiosity overwhelms him at times.

At the McDonalds counter:

ASSISTANT: Can i help you sir?
BUBBA: Yeah, I'll have a super duper mammoth extra large beefburger and a large diet coke.
Mike: Let me see! I shall be eating your tiny weeny small beefburger and a small pepsi.
ASSISTANT: You mean coke.
Mike: Whatever!

NARRATOR: They get their meals and sit down at a table.

BUBBA: OH BOY! I love this food! Recently, the food has improved in taste!
Mike: Why? What have they changed about it?
BUBBA: I dunno, but it's like a combination of chicken and beef in one!
Mike: Weird!

NARRATOR: Mike takes a bite into his tiny weeny small beefburger.

Mike: *munch munch* Indeed. This is a most unusual texture. I must find out what is in it!
BUBBA: Who cares! Lets eat!

NARRATOR: Just then Ronald McDonald enters the room and lots of children gather around him with excitement.

Mike: Oh no! Not him! Are they trying to put me off my food?
BUBBA: Don't worry, he's leading them into another room.
Mike: Say... what IS in that room?
BUBBA: It says "playroom" on the door.
Mike: Playroom? Won't the kids get indigestion from just eating?
BUBBA: Say what?
Mike: I'm gonna just go take a peek in that room. I don't trust Ronald McDonald, he's creepy.
BUBBA: Oh Mike! (Said disaprovingly)

NARRATOR: Mike goes up to the door and peeks through the crack. Inside is Ronald McDonald leading the children into a fun

looking playhouse. Mechanical whirring noises can be heard from within.

Mike: What the heck is making that noise? I'm going in!
BUBBA: Mike what are you doing?

NARRATOR: Bubba gets off his seat and chases after Mike. Mike opens the door to the playhouse and Ronald McDonald notices

him.

RONALD: HELLO! I'm afraid only children can fit- can go inside the mincing machin-I mean the playhouse! Ahem.
Mike: mincing machine?? Are you insane!
Ronald: No no, ignore me! It's been a hard day luring children to their deaths.. oh my I just can't keep my mouth shut! Now

I'm gonna have to chop you up and put you in the machine too!
Mike: Stay away from me!

NARRATOR: Ronald grabs Mike and is about to throw him into the machine when Bubba enters the room.

BUBBA: Hey! What are you doing? GRRR!!

NARRATOR: Bubba charges across the room and tackles Ronald down to the ground.

RONALD: (Whilst wrestling with Bubba) Get off me you fat git! Argh, I can see you've been eating a lot of our CHILDREN

BURGERS MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
BUBBA: What??? Disgusting! I think I'm gonna hurl!

NARRATOR: Bubba pukes all over Ronald McDonald.

BUBBA: UUUUURGGHHHHH!!!!
RONALD: ARGH WHY CAN'T I JUST KEEP MY STUPID MOUTH SHUT??

NARRATOR: Ronald passes out from the stench of vomit.

BUBBA: Are you alright Mike?
Mike: Yeah, thanks to you!

General Discussion / NTL technical problems
Mon 22/05/2006 22:44:24
Is anyone else having technical problems tonight who has NTL for their internet provider? (You poor, poor people)

I'm not sure but certain web pages are not loading up (Page not available) or they don't have all the images load up (with an "X" like a broken link) or even most of the design missing (Like looking at a site with webTV or a mobile phone).

What I'm not sure about is whether it is the problem NTL's engineers have posted or it's something else..

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem, which would put my mind at ease to know it's not my IE that's gone kaput.

NTL put this:

"ntl broadband customers maybe experiencing slow/intermittent webpage browsing due to a network fault. We are working to resolve this fault as quickly as possible. We apologise for any convenience caused."

The mostly rubbish broadband medic that NTL offers tells me there is no internet connection problem but it's the actual internet explorer. Is it talking out of it's AI arse?

Anyone seen it? What was your view? Here is mine!

I decided as my dad liked the final fantasy film "the spirits within" I'd get him to watch this new one with me. My only concern was that he's never played the game, so he's missing out on a whole back story. Whilst they tried to give you the brief story, it was difficult for us to hear the fragile narrator's voice over the music! Well I heard most of it, and they couldn't, actually. (Didn't seem to be a problem later on though)

The film was sometimes confusing. And I've played the game! I can't imagine how confusing it was for my dad!

Okay, the reason why I personally was disapointed, was that other than Cloud and Tifa, the rest of the gang were barely in it until later on in the film. To be quite frank, Cloud was one of my least fave characters in the game. ("WHAT?!!" - The majority of final fantasy fans)

The graphics though, were brilliant! And the battles were breathtaking. And when the gang finally showed up, I got a thrill out of seeing them! The music was cool, but a bit too loud for the film on a TV. (Our surround's bust)

The references to the game like the mobile phone's ringtone, and the teddy bear moogle were neat.

I've always loved the Wonderstuff and always will. It's sad to hear of his passing. May he rest in peace.

Not a new sci-fi game, but a hidden driver that could be on YOUR computer!

I've been reading PC Gamer... and it's all in there about this anti-piracy driver that could potentially be an access port for those evil hacker types! (Although not proven.. very confusing) it also could possibly ruin your disc drive.. so I hear.

I went to my device manager and clicked on view, and list the hidden devices... looked under plug and play, and there it is!

It comes with many games and secretly installs onto your PC.

There is a program that'll remove it for you if you want!

Read what it says, and make your own minds up. Or if you know more about it, please enlighten me!

General Discussion / Sega classics collection
Thu 02/03/2006 20:47:35
Sega have jumped on the barrel scraping bandwagon and released their own classics collection on the playstation 2, with games like golden axe and outrun. I'm gathering the only reason people would buy this in the first place is for the nostalgia. So why on earth did Sega decide to "enhance" the graphics and sound for the games? From the reviews I've read it seems the games in their true original form are not available on it.

Being cynical, I suspect they did this in hope of selling it to more punters. "Look 14 year old child! We've enhanced the graphics just for you!" Or something to that effect.

Sure, I'd personally not play the games either way anymore, but I'm interested in hearing your views!

I wish there was a website (and if there is please tell me!) where you could input all the bands you like into it and it would email you or something to tell you whenever a band you like has an album due out that month.

It's a nightmare trying to keep track! I just found out that Placebo, The Wonderstuff and Action Action all have albums out on 20th! In the past I have found out that bands I like had released stuff and I'd had no idea! For example, "Lit!"

Ooh that reminds me, Polysics have an album out in a few months..

After you have loaded the software on to the computer plug the cable
into
the PC.
Then check the settings in the menu and change them accordingly.

PLUG THE CABLE IN! Of course! Why didn't I think of that? Oh will you look at that? I forgot to turn the computer on as well! They take me for a fool!

(Or perhaps they don't have a frigging clue themselves?)

Sorry but I didn't really know what to call my problem!

Take a look at this picture:

My EGO can interact with the skip, and climb onto it (and now he's stuck on a non-walkable area until he interacts with the skip again and thus climbs back down again). However I now have the problem of him still being able to interact with everything else in the room. He'll just stand there stuck and pick up things in the room as if by magic.

I've already done EVERYTHING in the scene, all the interactions etc.

One idea I had was to make my character change rooms, by showing a room that's just a picture of the EGO up close or something, and then taking him back to the room and now he is back on the ground again. This would work, but break up the flow of the game and look a bit crap I think.

I think integers if/else and all that might work, but looking at the tutorials Ashen posted recently I don't understand how to do it.

Unless someone is able to explain it better (A guide for beginner's my ass!Ã,  :P ) or please offer an alternative method, I'll have to go with the room jumping idea.

Thanks!

General Discussion / baked beans (No, really)
Mon 09/01/2006 21:35:02
Today I spotted weight watchers baked beans.

Diet baked beans? DIET BAKED BEANS? It's beans in tomato sauce, how the fudge can you make them have less fat or calories? Do they add sugar in heinz or something?

Oh, upon looking at the tin, and comparing it with Heinz normal beans, there are SEVEN calories more in the Heinz! Wow! Why don't i just lift my remote control four times in the air, thus burning seven calories, and then eat the heinz ones instead of some probably gross diet ones?

Oh no other customer in the shop, you go ahead and spend all that extra cash on 'diet' beans. Sucker.

Okay, I figured I'd prefer this thread rather than songs that meant something to me for 2005 in particular, so...

What are your top TEN/FIVE  favourate albums that came out in 2005? (Re-issues don't count)

Mine are (In no particular order):

Paradise Lost - self titled
Clor - Self titled
Mew - and the glass handed kites
The Perceptionists - Black Dialogue
Erasure - Nightbird
The Robocop Kraus - They think they are the robocop kraus
Franz Ferdinand - You could have it so much better
Our Lady Peace - Healthy in paranoid times
The Chalets - Check in
Foo fighters - In your honour

If I start a dialogue with an NPC while there is music playing, the music jumps for a second.

Looking for answers via the search feature, I see that 2 people have had the same problem, and the only solution found was to degrade the game from 32 bit to 16 bit. However that makes my game look crap where gradients/lighting are used.

The only mentions of it were very brief anyway. Does anyone know of a way round the slowdown? It's not like  my PC is shit! It can play half life 2 with the high resolution skins, but not play some music properly? Is it to do with the engine?
#96
Me again! I loaded up my game made from AGS 2.7 to 2.71 and everything seems fine except the speech and music files won't play.

This seems to be because the engine has created seperate folders for speech and music, and if I copy the speech and music back to where it was before it works fine, but my question is...

Is this the right course of action to have taken? Will my game work fine now?
#97
Okay, this is really ticking me off now!

Why is it sometimes, (and especially right now) that when I drag the hotspot's walk-to point to where I want it, and click off the screen onto another, or test the game.. I often find the walk-to point marker has moved somewhere else on the screen? I've had to move two hotspots to the right place just now, three times! They won't stick! (I know not to have them overlaying each other exactly)

This is more annoying than the me wanting two hotspots on top of each other without the other one being wiped!

(Not to sound ungrateful for such a wonderful program!)
#98
Okay, either it's a limitation of the program, or there is an alternate way of doing it so it is precise.

most often I will create a new object, and place it on my background. Lets say it is an open window that will be on top of the closed one on the background. I place it there, but it is either two pixels too much to the left, or two pixels too much to the right. The only solution I know of is to keep going into paint and pasting the object one pixel to the left or right.

Am I missing something here? It's driving me nuts!

General Discussion / Aged graphics
Fri 16/12/2005 22:07:20
Yesterday my brother visited me, and when I showed him my games collection, he told me he too has Simon the sorceror 2, but it won't work properly.

Apparently it's all glitched - messed up colours, big pixels, just all round bodged up. He'd tried emulators, changing the resolution, all sorts. (The game cost him 99p)

So I loaded my copy up on my PC and he said "It doesn't work for you either?"

I informed him that this IS what the game is supposed to look like.

I guess he's never experienced the whole aging graphics issue before!

Hello again!  ;D

I can't find any mention of this in the forums or the wiki guides...

Right, there are three adjoining rooms. In the middle, there is an mp3 being played. (Of a football match) That's set to loud. In the room to the left of it, the mp3 is set again, but to quietest. in the room to the right of the middle room, is no defined music. But when you walk in there the mp3 stays, and is the same volume as the middle room. If I SPAWN straight into the right hand room from the editor, the mp3 is not heard. Why is this occuring? I want there to be silence in this room!

I have music set to crossfade. The music was set via the user interface, not any scripting.

Thanks for any help! Again!
