Danvzare: Woohoo! It's unlikely I'll put anymore sprites in this thread however, I just always make it a requirement to have the main character get some outside feedback!

Kweepa: That's brilliant! Why did it never occur to me to use two pixels across for his pupils?! I have updated the sprite as such! Fortunately I haven't created any animation yet! Although when he is facing "down", he will either have to look to the side or I have the eyes four pixels wide for that view. I'll see how it looks come the time. Thanks!

Cheers! Grey didn't work for me but I think this works! Okay okay, here's a collar! Oh I put some white in his eyes too.

Police Detective Boiled-Hard is on the case!

Thanks both!

Shrunk his hand slightly. Redid the arm, still not 100% happy with it but it'll have to do. Shaded him slightly, doh! Gave him buttons on his shirt. (Reminds me of those kung fu tops!)
I also made his top slightly brighter.

UPDATE:

I realised if I remove the dark outline from his left arm to where it joins the body, it looks like it's part of his body now and not an extra limb growing out of him. Phew.

I've been thinking of making a short game with graphics inspired by Day of the Tentacle and that game forever in production Super Friends something that's inspired by Day of the Tentacle.

This is a police detective. Because I have no imagination. I've made him fairly serious looking. He's going to be a sane guy in a world full of crazy people. Those people will have exagerated proportions and so on. I don't want to make his height any taller. I'm not totally happy with his left arm. (Your right)

I am deliberetely.. deliberit.. intentionally not shading him, to keep time shaved and animations easier. This is also why he doesn't have a ton of details. But he isn't exactly screaming police detective, is he?

I don't recall getting very far in that game but I recognised this map screen.

Someone else take my go, the whole uploading an image somewhere is too much effort on my phone lol.

Heimdall 2?

My biggest hurdle is backgrounds!

Thanks Retro Wolf. I didn't know what to say back but I thought you should know I did read your reply and appreciate your advice.

Yeah I suppose that's worth considering, thanks. Bitsy looks a bit too simplistic but yeah I suppose I felt like it was AGS traditional games or nothing for some reason.

I shall think on this.

Hey, thank you for your input!

I think I've decided to abandon making another game, I never was very good at making backgrounds, and right now I just really struggled with it. I'm at a crossroads right now where I'm not sure where I should go next in my life. The game in my signature failed to take off so it feels somewhat pointless anyway.

Right, well anyway I made some tweaks and then gave him a backdrop so it's just a piece of pixel art now. aand I messed up his trousers shading when I made his leg wider. Doh! Just noticed that now.

I'm having a stab at a lower resolution than any game I've made prior, and I'm quite happy with it but I know there is always room for improvement. I'm trying not to add too many colours or details for the sake of making it easier when it comes to animating. I'm welcome to any suggestions for posture, body shape, colours used, etc. I originally went with a black coat as this sprite is based on my music artist alter ego, but it's hard to see the different shades of black when working on it, so I thought I'd try a brown coat instead. Likewise, his hat was black. And taller.

I would like an honest opinion on if this sprite is at a level anywhere near to that of say, LucasArts or any popular commercial low res adventure game.

Non-Scaled up image incase anyone would like to edit it for improvements, although I already updated the above sprite as someone pointed out I should shade the arms!:

Thanks in advance!

Trails and Traces is now only $3.99 from itch!

You can crop stuff in mspaint you know!

The eYe? That queen game. I say this because there's an eye here. It looks as rough as that game too.

Woah! Super ambitious! I would enjoy exploring the ship alone! I hope one day I will be able to do that. :)
#195
Yeah, basically the reviews are also funnier if you've already played the game, his reviews aren't actually helpful to me in deciding if I should play that game.

I am curious, what is the advantages of having multiple room backgrounds in one room? That sounds like a lot of hard work.

Yahtzee had not long left after I joined, people talked about him and his games quite a bit back then.

I occasionally watch zero punctuation, but only for games I've already finished - he can spoil plots sometimes.

Hmm, well either try running AGS as administrator by right clicking the exe and you'll see the option there, or move your saved game folder to the desktop and manually find it in AGS because the location moved so it won't show up in recent projects. Then see if you still have this problem. Just to rule it out.

Unless anyone else has any better ideas?
#199
This sounds to me like Windows doesn't like you writing to wherever your project is saved. I don't have any projects in my windows program folders because certain programs need to be run as administrator to write to that location for some infuriating reason. I'm not doing that every time so I just have my projects in documents, or in a folder on my desktop.

I give up.
