General Discussion / Re: New music by me!

Helm:

Thanks for taking the time to listen.

"It's not my type of thing so maybe my point of view isn't very useful to you."

Yes, I'll try to keep in mind you don't really like most of the stuff I listen to either! Still, you usually can tell the difference between talent and pop idol contestant.

"This reminds me of NIN, only more amateurly done, and I don't really like NIN to begin with so again, maybe my opinion on this one is worthless."

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ETC Oh man I was so hoping for no NIN comparisons with this album! Guess I can't avoid it.

"makes me think of a less ear-shattering Whitehouse without any of the class, and Whitehouse aren't all about class, so you know..."

Uh.. who?

"There is always Hope, well I guess you really really like NIN, don't you?"

Uh again. Why does that sound like NIN? For years people told me I sound like NIN. So I bought a couple of albums a while back. "Downward spiral" sounded alright but I only liked bits of it. The new one is better to me but a couple of tracks are dull! So that's why I'm so freaking weirded out by people saying I've ripped him off when I'd only heard a few tracks off the radio in the past and never got into him. My brother in Coventry though, he likes NIN and also says I sound like him musically.

'these vocals are overmixed and out of tune'

Really? They are? I couldn't tell. But then Trent Reznor has a thing called a producer who tells him this stuff.

"Extremely out of tune singing"

Whaaat?? On that one? I like them! I must be tonedeaf.

"I personally find their lyrics unconvincing on all levels too."

Well then you'd find ME unconvincing!

"You've mimicked the stylistics of other more successful arists here"

Who? Oh I don't want to know. Don't tell me. I've probably never heard them anyway.

"Sorry if this is harsh."

yes it is. And has spoiled what was a good day. But I wouldn't want you bullshitting me anyway.

"before you so happily call what you've made any sort of 'industrial' music."

Hmm? Oh shit I left that on from the last album! Yeah I'll change that. Nah I own Pitchshifter's "infotainment?" album, I know what industrial is.

You know, I can't help but feel that perhaps you've only heard NIN's in that genre, so you can only compare to him. Just like if I heard only one punk band for years, and then heard another, comparisons would be enevitable. (sp?)

Nikolas:

"7th album?Huh That's a lot of music and a lot of time.... WOW Well done for that..."

Are you being sincere? You sound like what helm just said.

"There was bound to be a huge difference between NIN and Matts music."

I'm chucking NIN's albums out of the window!

"Matts music (unless he spends another 50,000 GBP.."
Yes, that is out of my budget.

"The melodic elements found in some older tracks don't exist anymore"

Ouch.

"But somehow the interest is always the same and the sound manipulation remains the same in all the tracks, which in the end makes them boring."

Ah, would that be a lack of a mixing engineer/knowledge?

"Sorry for the NIN comparison, but it's bound to happen and I'm doing it only to point something."

It's not the first, it won't be the last!

"Now I don't know if these tracks represent all the album. "

A few will then sound the same to you, except "History" which is a sort of well. erm, indie non-acoustic but fake guitar thingy; and "unhealthy" which is a weird basic fun song with a catchy chorus. (Then again, I thought Manipulator was catchy..) and "work for life" is a almost pop like song with synths and cool guitars.

The only reason i didn't include those tracks was because it would give the worng impression OVERALL of the album. People would expect more but find the dark electronic stuff instead.

"No, I like it, I like it a lot... "

Phew!

Well Nikolas, if you were to send me a disc full of your compositions, I'll give you this album and stick the last album on the disc too, okay?

General Discussion / New music by me!

Hey guys! My new music is up and ready to play!

Let me know what you think either there or on here!

Yes, swear word avoiding people should avoid "manipulator"

"Blaming microsoft because you can't handle your pc is like blaming a car manufacturer for a crash."

Only if the brakes weren't working.

I'd comment on the game, except the poster of this thread wouldn't read it, it appears.  ::)

Critics' Lounge / Re: Coloring

Well erm.. you should replace the black lines that are for speech bubbles and just have the speech bubbles themselves have a sticking out bit towards who is talking, like in Garfield strips. Sorry if that's not clear, i don't know if there is a technical term for what I mean, so just look at a Garfield strip or something and compare.

The black line makes him (?) look like he has a whiska you see.

The joke itself raised a smile, as I agree with why that's why I don't watch MTV anymore, as it seems to be less "Music" television and more "Mainstream" television.

Lastly, that seems like a strange place to put the speech bubble when you've got some spare room in the last picture?

PS - Who has a purple TV? Make it brown, black or silver. The green background just grabs your attention and makes it bright and colourful, if you ask me. Otherwise just make it white/offwhite.

It's time for stick man in funny pose in different photos!

Why have you installed a security camera in your bathroom? Pervert!

Also, why are you enjoying yourself? Toilet trips aren't much fun.

I don't think it's a bad attempt for my first go at combining two photos.
#2287
My condolences also. You vent as much as you need to.

MillsJROSS: Sin city was allowed??! That's just nuts! Did they enjoy the scene where that guy that plays Frodo, Elijah wood or something is tied to the tree and you know what I'm talking about? That freaked ME out! Mainly 'cos of the expression on his face. Creepy.

Erenan: Hmmm I was referring to a person being wimpy when they are shocked to hear a swear word even though they're exposed to these words every single day unless they live a sheltered life with no TV. I would only agree with you if the swearing was used obsessively, in every other sentence, almost as if they needed to stretch the line out to fit in that segment of the song so they just add a swear word in there. Other wise, the band Everclear had never swore in a song until they released one album with the words in one song "I'm all f*cked up" in which they felt the word was necessary to describe themselves. If he was singing "I'm all messed up" instead, it sounds flat and nowhere near as bad. I myself don't swear unless I feel it's called for, as I would if I was talking to someone in real life, only swearing when I feel I really should, or get really angry. I just looked at my lyrics for this album and I only swear on the one song. (Unless you count "shit" as a swear word but to me it's not very offensive.)

Guybrush Peepwood: Critics lounge? hehe thanks but I've already gone through final mixing and everything so I consider it finished!

I'll be sure to let everyone know when my new music is up - and my friend just called a moment ago and informed me he's just emailed the final drawings to me! Yay I can finish the artwork! I could always put some of that in critics lounge.

The storyline appears to be somewhat lightweight,  like Halo, or even half life 2.

Man wakes up deserted. (With no importance on how he got there?)

Man finds cave with writing in it.

The end!

I suppose it would be difficult to create a plot heavy free form game like this, what with so many variables. You'd need self adapting AI if there were other characters. I can't say I've read a book/seen a film with only one character on his own throughout the film. Even cast away had loved ones in it at some point.

Hey Helm, imagine if adventure games were popular and EA made them. Goodness knows they insult our intelligence with big massive arrows in game to show us we need to turn left. (From playing a DEMO of some James Bond game)
#2290
Sounds interesting Helm, like a realistic Harvest moon game! However your game idea seems to be lacking in anything resembling a story line? And I don't really like playing games where you are inevitably going to die than succeed, and then keep starting over again doing the same things from scratch but being more effecient at it. So it wouldn't appeal to me as I rarely play a game through more than twice these days. (Although being unemployed might change that..)

Zooty:

http://www.myspace.com/manicmatt3uk

Keep in mind I have yet to put my new music up as I'm still in the process of completing the art work. But I can't wait to show the world!

SSH: Whatever will they think of next? Mentioning bonus tracks on the contents instead of them being hidden tracks? (Papa Roach had a hidden bonus song on their 'infest' album. Then when they became really popular to 9 year olds everywhere the album was re-released, this time exclaiming it to be a "Bonus track!".

modgeulator: Tipper Gore's moral panic... um no. I don't. Well then, guess that simplifies things for me!

Mr Hyde: Hyeah makes me wonder if those screaming bands ever don't actually write any lyrics and just make up noises as they go along! I guess that's where my dilemma stemmed from; having people say to me : "WHAT?? You SWORE!! OH MY GOD!" I just won't let them hear it this time.

Hammerite: Is it the same kind of people who insist on having parental stickers and the like, the same ones who insist on the banning of children wearing black band t-shirts to school?

Evil: I was thinking I'd have to be somewhat judgemental when it comes to handing out my cd. If they look like a metal head or a goth, or they wear a NIN t-shirt then I might be pretty safe. And for the record, the context in which it's sung is "Stay away from me, mother f*cker". Hardly the most interesting lyrics I've ever written, but it's intentional as I was just venting pure anger towards a certain horrible person.

Ali: Curious George? Isn't that a children's film?

Largo: What better way to get public opinion than from some people who think like me in some ways. (At least in that we frequent this forum and like adventure games anyway...)

Becky: Yes that's it's intention, but I do know some adults who shy away when seeing the sticker, the wimps!

MashPotato: Ooh no I've got some great artwork on the back, too! Before I posted this thread there was a 30% chance I'd use the labels. Now it's more like 0.05%!

*sidesteps from the gun talk*

What really annoys me about parental stickers are, well, the ones that are not stickers but printed on the cover! That band EMF, when they released their singles collection, the title of it was called "Epson mad f*****s" with a parental sticker over where I just put the stars. When you peeled the sticker off it actually says "epson mad funkers". Clever, as they were known as both! And I always thought EMF stood for electro motive force.
#2292
True enough, the artwork style of my album suggests something un-nice, so it would hardly be surprising to find swearing on it.

And I was listening to EMF's B-side to unbelievable when I was a child which said mother f... and I hardly swear at all!
#2293
The gen thread seems to be bare on topics at the moment, so I figured I'd raise a question in my head right now, see what you think.

It's the use of parental advisory stickers like these:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parental_Advisory

My dilemma is to whether I should label my promo discs. My music has swearing in it, like the mother-f.. word for example, and I'm going to be giving out fifty promo discs to complete strangers that contain said swearword. Several times. (It's in the chorus)

I'm not going to have it printed on my actual album, as it detracts from the artwork and I have greater control over the album than where these promos end up.

So what would you do? (Or have done?)
#2294
I just got the one account. Anyway, I have come to the conclusion that there is now nothing wrong with my computer, as NTL have just got back to me with a personalised message (not) saying they're having connectivity problems across the country.

So much for their "broadband medic" that told me it's my browser at fault and not the connection. I think the problem lies with the fact that it seems to test your connection by loading up their own website, which is just a daft and limiting way of looking for problems.
Why not check the connection on the page I was having trouble loading up?

At least, I hope it's them and not me!

Still eh, if this had not happened, you guys wouldn't have got me on firefox and helped me find out that I have winfixer AND errorsafe living on my computer!

:= Have a larry icon! It's the first time I think I've used it, so I'm using it for a special occasion, having handy peeps on this forum yay!

So, um, if you need help yourselves with er.. videogames or something, drop me a line!

I'm rather fond of the artist known as "Cex". I just love going to the counter and saying to the assistant: "I'm looking for cex please"

(Off topic from an already pretty topic-less thread)

I came across a deleted entry by mordelles in the game section the other day. I don't know what prompted him to do that but.. when was the last time he was on here? I haven't seen him in ages! Did he say "bye" and I forgot? He always was so critical of his own games.

Helm, I could play "I am the sun" by Dark Star instead?

Hmmm what were those lyrics... (Off the top of my head)

"Jesus was my age, when he got nailed;
yeah I'm coming back to you, I'm centrifugal,
I am the sun, I am the sun, I am.."

Erm.. I'll take a raincheck on that one.

Guess I'll play a Marilyn Manson song.

"God is in the TV. God is just a statistic."

Come again? You what? Gee I'm not doing too well here..

What's this? mushroomhead. Give it a spin.

"If it was up to me I'd free Charles Manson."

ooh very evil! Or sick.

I think i will try that Windows defender as yesterday i had a visit from the system doctor again (and pressed Alt-F4- thanks Squinky!) and now maybe by coincidence I can't load up yahoo or google, the two most frequently visited sites i go to.

Either I get that damn page not found screen or it says "done" when it's a blank page.

All this and that one new email i have is probably Amazon spam!

I updated search and destroy and found this nugget on my computer:

"Product: ErrorSafe
Threat: Malware

Description
ErrorSafe pretends to be an antivirus programm. It mainly appears in connection with a Smitfraud-C infection and is praised on a blue screen. Having installed the software one has to accept an insufficient Privacy. There is no button to deny this privacy. A scan with ErrorSafe reveals several problems that allegedly need to be removed urgently in order to rescue the computer. At this point the user is requested to buy the whole program for an"

The info is cut off.. I DID see a blue screen today prior to the system doctor popping up! (Which i might add when I closed off the advert I lost my place on the net GRR!!)

If I can get a search site to work I'm gonna check out what a Smitfraud-C virus is. heck, this site didn't work half an hour ago, SOMETHING must be wrong!
