Lumpingfish: Remember though, 7 calories difference! That's like almost nothing!

MrColossal: I'm just wary of those weight watcher products. I've looked a some of their other stuff before and they try to make it look less fattening than it is!

Pumaman: Cup of tea? What is it with you and blue cups anyway?  ; :) Man if I shed any more pounds I'll be skinnier than Kate Moss! Okay, maybe I'm going too far with that one..

Lord Nipper: Fire freur! Sadly I had forgot to bring my fire with me, it was in my other trousers.  ;D

Deus Ex: invisible war had some licensed music by kidneythieves, which is where I got into that band! As for the ingame music, I turned it off..

General Discussion / baked beans (No, really)
Mon 09/01/2006 21:35:02
Today I spotted weight watchers baked beans.

Diet baked beans? DIET BAKED BEANS? It's beans in tomato sauce, how the fudge can you make them have less fat or calories? Do they add sugar in heinz or something?

Oh, upon looking at the tin, and comparing it with Heinz normal beans, there are SEVEN calories more in the Heinz! Wow! Why don't i just lift my remote control four times in the air, thus burning seven calories, and then eat the heinz ones instead of some probably gross diet ones?

Oh no other customer in the shop, you go ahead and spend all that extra cash on 'diet' beans. Sucker.

Ninjas: I don't follow at all the electronic scene, so I had no idea at what bmp the tracks are. 120 was just an example.

mOds: No it's not that easy to create a string part, some brass and a snare going ra ta ta ta. At least not at a level that it can sound decent. Not to mention that I consider music to be a languade. And as any language you have to be taught in order to speak and write. Not listen. It could be self-taught or taught in a college, but still taught somehow. You cannot expect from someone who has never done any music to write a string part. No way!

And of course I don't see any reason to label music. Especially music that has been done with care and love and not to be labeled on it's own...

Sampling is fine, just fine...

And of course when we talk about game music, we compare it to what? Films? Classical concerts? Symphonic music? Pop techno/trance/whatever genre? U2? NIN? A rather difficult comparison indeed. How many composers do you know that can succesfully evade and if not win a confrontation with Trevor Reznor? All music that tries to be like NIN (spring Doom for example), in the end will kinda suck! Kinda! Cause Trevor is just amazing!

...And Matt knows that!

I'm not sure if you are suggesting I "kinda suck" or that I can't evade a comparison to trent Reznor?

Indeed I am unable to evade being compared to his music. Whether that's because it's all many people have heard within that sort of genre to compare it with, or I really DO sound like him somehow, I'm not sure.

But let it be known, after being compared to him a million times I went out and bought a couple of his albums (with teeth, downward spiral) just to see why. Hey, not bad! Totally honestly the only songs I'd heard by him were "perfect drug" and "hurt" and maybe a few others that I can't recite.

But really, I think I just get the comparison because my music is depressing with electronic music in it.

InCreator, I implore you! Tell me what genre I should call myself! Go on! Pweeease!

GUIOff (INVENTORY);

Could this work? I don't have time to try it out. You try that out until an expert comes along! (After the command to change rooms in your interaction editor, tell it to "run script" and plonk that writing in it)

Man, if this is wrong the mods are gonna kill me for trying to help when I don't even know what I'm doing!

Actually, when it comes to just plonking loops together to 'make' a song, I've heard some songs made that way that sound utterly shit, and some that aint half bad. (I'm excluding myself in that list for this example) So I feel there is SOME talent required, if not much. Just general know how for how a song should sound I suppose.

[still off-topic]

I'm interested in this conversation now it's about music!

Five or so years ago I started, as you'd define it, 'mixing' music. It was someplace to start with no actual experience. I'd write my own lyrics to it and sing over it. This was done with PS2 programs. Sure enough... it wasn't very good and after making lots of songs with pre-made loops I finally came across music 3000 on the PS2 and I could create my own stuff! There were pre-made stuff but I shy away from it as much as I can. I am still nicking little bytes of sound off there, like a small synth, and then expand on it and write the chords. Some say this is still not my own stuff to some degree, but how is it any different to a pianoist using the piano's pre-made sound? I'm telling you, if someone tried to make the same songs as me on the same program they'd have a very hard time doing so. Sure... this has been mostly just about me.. oops sorry!

Speaking of techno, a friend tells me this song of mine has techno elements to it, is this true? Is it techno? Increator, please listen to "Denial"  and wait until the first verse has ended to hear the techno bit. Is this techno? I made the beats, riffs, loops, sounds etc from scratch. Hm? Oh, i'll check out that guide anyway.

You're all forgetting Mesmerize by System of a Down.

And nobody cares about your obscure, possibly made-up bands Al!

I'm not.

Okay I liked some of the songs on it, but that backing vocal guy ruins it with his whiney voice!

Like Elliott said, only when the dialogue options appear. But the rate at which it does it is inconsistent. Sometimes it'll be fine, other times it'll do it quite often. I tried setting up the music in a room with another character to talk to but the same thing occured.

100th post woohoo!

Okay, I figured I'd prefer this thread rather than songs that meant something to me for 2005 in particular, so...

What are your top TEN/FIVE  favourate albums that came out in 2005? (Re-issues don't count)

Mine are (In no particular order):

Paradise Lost - self titled
Clor - Self titled
Mew - and the glass handed kites
The Perceptionists - Black Dialogue
Erasure - Nightbird
The Robocop Kraus - They think they are the robocop kraus
Franz Ferdinand - You could have it so much better
Our Lady Peace - Healthy in paranoid times
The Chalets - Check in
Foo fighters - In your honour

And once again proving that graphics are not the be all and end all of adventure games. If only humanity could stop seeing with their eyes.
ooOOO! trecle alert! yes i'm sure its fun, and yes graphics don't really matter, but, "if only humanity could stop seen with theirÃ,  eyes"?! i am playing pleurghburg right, now yes graphics don't matter t much, but that statment is so treclelyÃ,  its almostdisgusting. its lofty andÃ,  ostentatios and that ( for me )annoying brand of crypto-mumbo-jumbo sorry for the rant it was just me GUT reaction. sorry

Ooh let me translate their poor english skills!

Ooh treacle alert! Yes I'm sure it's fun, and yes graphics don't really matter, but "If only humanity could stop seeing with their eyes?"?! I am playing Pleurghburg right, and yes the graphics don't matter too much, but that statement is so full of treacle it's almost disgusting. It's lofty and ostentious, and that (For me) is an annoying brand of crypto-mumbo-jumbo! Sorry for the rant, it was just my GUT reaction. Sorry. (Although as you can see I still went ahead and posted my GUT reaction, and used the word treacle which isn't really a  use of it's proper definition, and is in fact crypto-mumbo-jumbo!)

-Okay I made that bit up at the end!

How about a subtle movement of the ship, going up and down from the waves, like boats do?

Lifeboats??? (Not sure about how that'd look)

Some tiny weeny little people moving about the ship?

A bird that flies past just the once?

An island in the background slowly going further away into the distance?

Alright, I tried both techniques and the effect was the same. (Although it was funky to go all the way down to no sound acceleration and hear the music all fuzzy!)

It's nothing to do with the default MCI device is it in AGS setup?

I'm using some creative labs sound blaster thingy.

Even so, Barbarian's advice lead me to the discovery as to why my computer goes to 100% usage sometimes. (No no, it's nothing to do with the game's problem) This particular problem seems to occur when my bluetooth adaptor fails to fully recieve a file transfer from my phone. I ended the process and the PC was fine. (BTStackserver.exe) But this is a seperate problem (now temporarly fixed and yes, the game still has the problem) but seeing as this is the AGS forums I'll ask my techhead friend how to stop the bluetooth adaptor from being shite.

So... any other ideas? Have I got too many in game commands going on in the game? Could that even slow it down? Animated background, animated whilst idle NPC whom you talk to and get the slowdown every other time, and a non-default font being used in the dialogue options.

Actually, no, this song reminds me that they're fucking cunts:

Mclusky:

GARETH BROWN SAYS: (song title)

"All of your friends are cunts..."

(You guys can tell I'm joking, I hope)

Dam! If Barbarian never makes into the film, I say we all refuse to go and see the movie!

General Discussion / Re: King Kong

I didn't regret watching it by any means, but yeah, wait for the DVD, it's very long!

It was probably the last time I go cinema in a long time, at least in my local warner (or as they foolishly call themselves these days, vue) because it just costs too much now for what you're getting.

i am using ogg, for size effiency. EDIT: Shit! it's mp3, my bad. I thought I'd changed them.

Wow! A thread just for that little banner on the upper-left corner.Ã,  I don't really care about it, but here's an idea:Ã,

Maybe we could change the banner for special occasions, ex.: Halloween,Ã,  Christmas,Ã,  AGS anniversary, etc.Ã,  It would be like the google's logo on google's site.Ã,

That's a great idea! Too bad Ljubi already mentioned it in this very thread... sort of.

"We could also make right part of banner "Adventure Game Studio" changing from time to time.Just like GOOGLE do (christmas, haloween, CJ birthday etc). "

Shucks! That didn't work!

Without the speech and music, it's 18.2mb big.

I could leave just the one song in there, where the fault occurs.

If you don't mind downloading something that size, where would you prefer I upload it to? (I know I can trust you, I wouldn't send my game file to just anyone)

EDIT: You know, I keep testing it, and I swear the rate of skips has decreased from 80% to around 50%
