Split Second. How could you forget Rutger Hauer lighting his cigar with a blow-torch?
We have a winner! :)

General Discussion / Re: Good Movies You Hate

I hate "Joker". It's a decent film. Well done rip-off of "Taxi driver". As standalone film - technicaly really good. Phoenix as always - great. But makes no sense as comic book character adaptation. It ruins Joker. Has nothing to do with comic book insane criminal mastermind. All that explaining how did he became the one he is, blaming the "system", making him an icon and symbol of social unrests... this really sucks. That part is thick a wooden malled and designed for millenials who got excited when they see Gut Fawkes masks and need "message" written with huge letters and repeated few times just to be sure. In other words: another fascinating case about how corporations makes money and get critical acclaim selling anticapitalism as a product. As a former comic book fan - disappointed as hell. Yet camerawork really good (shameless copy of the "Taxi Driver" style but good)

Wait, are you the guy who makes those awful off-key slightly creepy nursery rhyme videos on youtube?

I don't take responsibility for the musical part. I do only visuals. And my cartoons are less creepy than our competitors who hires Pakistani and Indian animators!

I should add Leisure Suit Larry 5. Not that I particulary love this game but its graphic style turned my world upside down. I dicovered the world where straight, paralel lines don't exist and laws of perspective are severly violated. I'm faithfull to this style to this day.

Marcin, is that the image from the market at ul. Grzybowska? Isn't that also the place where CD Projekt (the guys behind the Witcher) started their business as a retailer in the '90s? :D
None other :D

I pass the CDP every time I bike to discount (Biedra ;) ) for my groceries :D

Online work has sort of boomed with the Event. I am just too lazy to create stuff to take advantage of this :/
That makes two of us.

Good choice in life! Both duke and filmmaking. IT? Booooring. (laugh) I actually also thought Maniac Mansion was really cool, i bought it cause of the cover art. Even tho i didn't get any far in the game as a kid on Nintendo. Which version did you play?

I wanted to learn coding but it was level hard and math where 2 + 2 doesn't make 4 made my brain melt.

Commodore 64. This game was pure magic for me (though my english was very weak and dictionary didn't help much and I had to xero a solution from a magazine). I got it because I read about it in som ranking of groundbreaking games. We had no boxed games - only pirate copies.

Every saturday, in basement of local elementary school there was a "market" - people used to bring their computers, monitors etc and disc collections with a catalogues - binders with pages from foreign game magazines and were making copies on demand and you paid per disk.

Back then we had no consoles at all in Poland until 90s when we had pirated clones of Famicom and Atari 2600. Yup, it took us about 10 years to catch up with the world after fall of communism :)

Maniac Mansion blew my head apart but real lifechanger was Duke Nukem 3D. We stole this game (few hours of downloading from the pirate FTP) and played on LAN in my school in public open computer room. Making long story shor: for 4 month I was walking to the building, passing the guard, walking to the classroom and played DN3D for 6 hours. I never managed to get to a lecture or class. It was the end of my IT studies. I took a break and went to study filmmaking.

Before the Event ( ;) )
Did you get your food parcels? Remain indoors! ;)

Back to the topic:
I'm weird case because I barely noticed any difference as luckily my workplace is in my home and I make kids music videos for youtube and kids cable channels - the branch that wasn't hurt by "the event" at all.
Nontheless, If any of you, would give me some tips where I could look for oversees clients I'd be greatful.

it is intentionally this short.

I would hold it for 1 second more. I know there is short attention span nowadays but this is we bit to fast / short .
Also it starts too sharply. Few frames of dissolving from black at the begining should make it smoother. IMHO

I like it's style and mood - nice tribute to the 90s and first 3D-rendered intros. (t only lacks that huge compression artifacts and bands instead of gradients ;-)

I don't like anime very much though I have to admit I do love "Ghost in the Shell", especially SAC1 & 2 series. Feature films are great too but ther is too much talking and philosophy. But great visuals.

Ooh, I like those videos.
As for a short tribute game, I'd recommend posting on the Maniac Mansion Mania forums, they'd probably love to help.
If you fail to find anyone though, and you've got a great idea you want to get out, I honestly don't mind putting it all together for you in AGS.
Good luck, and continue with these awesome animations!  :-D

I'm involved in new AGS project - not Maniac Mansion but cool anyway so for a while I'll be sharing my hobby time between fan film and this game. The game also includes a mansion so I'll reuse some elements from my Maniac artwork.

Here's the opposite angle of main hall. It doesn't exaclty match the hall I drew before as I had to made few changes after I started second floor. Storyboarding ideas for particular shots also forced some corrections. I bet they are not the last ones. I widened the hall and moved the basement door to back, behind the stairs.
I'm leavin it as it is for now (the frontal close angle of the kitchen door needs to be made yet, plus some polishing the details) and now I'm working on the background of the kitchen. Just like here the will be two opposite angles and a side view (a bit like in the game). Nurse Edna will have a dramatic entrance.

Hej Marcin,
I've just seen your artwork and must say it's truly amazing! I wish you best of luck with finding people to work with, as I really would like to see your assets in action.

However, rather than remaking entire MM, I think I would recommend you making a short tribute game. Unless you are ready to spend a lot of time on it :D

I've decide to focus on art. In my age man should understand he can't do everything all by himself :) Maybe will do something short indeed but it would be damn nice to find a decent colaborators and remake this game. Or maybe if someone will come and say: "Screw Maniac Mansion, we have better way to use your artwork!" and I'll find it interesting then who knows? I'm flowing wherever the winds direct me, man ;-)

So for now I'll be doodling my animation and que sera, sera :D I'm in creative frenzy now. I have ideas how to "fill the gap" in narration (game didn't have much detailed intro) and it's quite fun for me.
