General Discussion / Re: Board Game Geeks

Smash up is awesome! I've only just started to play that at the gaming group I go to each week.
I tend to get the Martians and Dinosaurs a lot.

Pandemic, yet again another great game! We've only beaten the viruses twice so far, one which included the purple virus expansion, out of about six games.

Love Last Night on Earth, but another great Zombie game is Zombiecide, which is very popular within the gaming group as it is very survival based and gets you thinking about your next move very carefully.

Of all the games I've got, I am yet to play and learn the rules to Netrunner, Luna, Pastiche and Felinia.

I really like the style of this game!

Holy Mountain looks like my kind of film!!!!!

I really love watching unusual films - I'll check out Holy Mountain

Salo: or 120 days of Sodom is a fantastic film. Very disturbing and one of the few films that manage to make me almost puke (especially the scene where they all dine on excretement).

A Serbian Film is definitely one of the most f$%&ed up films ever.

One film I'll add is Anti Christ. The soundtrack is one of the most creepiest I've ever heard and some of the scenes (especially the genital mutilation) is quite shocking.

I'll also add Eraserhead, which is my fave film ever!!!! I watched that when I was very young and it traumatised me for days.

The Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb is another favourite f£$%ked up film of mine.

Hi, not sure if this be the correct section to post this (move it by all means...) but having noticed a link to Allegro Sprite Editor I just wondered if this is a good software to use for creating characters in AGS.

Just wanted to make sure before I think about downloading it.:)

I do like the top images better than the second images, that's my personal opinion.
There's a kind of softness to it that reminds me of the characters from Beneath a Steel Sky.
I will give this method a try as I'm trying to create some sprites.

Thanks so much! That'll give me plenty to consider for now.   :)

Thanks! That'll give me some things to consider for proper, just to make sure I'll ask the right sort of questions when attempting to code and design the game I had in mind.

The whole idea is to make this as much like a boardgame as possible, where you get to choose 'equipment', 'skill' and 'order' cards before a mission starts and the dice has symbols to resolve combats.

Concerning the LoS, since this will be a board grid system, divided into floors which the figures move along and the walls which they obviously cannot enter. So it is finding a way for me to show the relation between firer and target and if a wall is in the way then no firing can take place.

Hello!

I plan to make a 'boardgame' style game, very similar to the old Space Crusade game that was around for the Amiga.

Before I even think more about making this or advancing ideas on the mechanics of the game, I would like some advice regarding the following:

1/ Making it appeal to multi-players. This doesn't mean at the same time, just that it will be turn based.
2/ Dice randomisation.
3/ Moving from 'one space to another space' style movement.
4/ Line of sight system for ranged combat like tabletop games.

Very possible, there is a game like that in the works, I can't find the thread right now though.

Basically, all level info is stored in a grid, and the first person-view is generated by iterating through that grid from far to near, drawing pre-made walls.
I'd say the scripting involved is semi-complex. You'll need AI that moves monsters around and some short of shop system, I guess.

It all comes down to organizing a buttload of data well enough to not pull your hairs out continuously during coding :)

(In general, there's pretty much no limit as to what type of game can be created with AGS, except speed.)

Brilliant! Please let me know via PM of any related threads or advice/codes/grid info on how to make such an RPG.

;D

How possible or difficult is it to design retro first person view style RPGs such as Eye of the Beholder, Dungeon Master, Wax Works, Black Crypt, etc with AGS where you click on arrows to guide your party of characters through mazes and fight wandering monsters?

THANK YOU SO MUCH KHRIS!!!! ;D ;D ;D

I changed to Direct3D...

...it works  8)

Good to know that the colour change in AGS is normal  :) these things can freak out a beginner.

I guess I might have to tweak some things here and there just to see if anything happens.

I'm not an expert when it comes to graphics cards but are there best ones to use with AGS? That is pretty much the only thing I could think of.

Hello,

I'm still young in using AGS, but I'm having real problems with the actual run screen as I can't make anything happen within it. Usually it is hit and miss and the pointer would appear but sometimes only on side side of the screen, or it would take ages to actually move across the little screen or for the character to respond or in some cases no pointer would emerge at all.

I am using windows 7 (I understand that there are a lot of topics about the problems around Windows 7) and each time I click on the Run button, a small window appears saying that the colour scheme had to change temporarily, which reverts back to normal when I close the Run window. But this colour change only responds to the desktop window so I don't see how that would affect the run screen unless there is something I'm not aware of.

I have already looked into updating the graphics driver but my machine insists that I already have the updated version.

If I can make the Run screen work then I can make my game for proper.

Please help  :(
