AGS Games in Production / Re: The King of Rock

The game looks good and interesting. Too bad that you have finished the game because I would suggest to use an Elvis Presley song. I know he's not a band but he's really a legend of the Rock N Roll and also the one who made it so popular. Just a suggestion though.

Enköping (town), Uppsala (kind like state but still not), Sweden.

I like the background. All though it seems a bit too dark at the dark place (from the middle to farest left).

(off-topic: Chris, could you try contact me on the MSN or at least PM me?)

2. Happened a couple of times - while trying to climb the stairs to the third level (to the room where GT first shows up), sometimes the character is being thrown back in the middle of the room, then continues to walk to the stairs and eventually climb them.

That happened to me too as well.

Redrum, redrum, redrum... DOTT was only called MM2 to some, it's not officialy called MM2 so DOTT2 shouldn't be called MM3.

The game seems great, I almost completed it.

Now I need help:

Spoiler
How do I open the display case for the rare diamond? I have tried all the iventory so far: Postball, knife, iron fence and camera.

I'm going to vote for this game when it's time to vote.

I think what HillBilly wants is typical cartoony music that is from the 40's to 70's like Tom & Jerry, Warner Bros.' cartoons, that sort of cartoony music. The cartoony genre for Day of the Tentacle were based on Warner Bros cartoons especially Chuck Jones cartoons like Road Runner & Coyote so the music style is based on those kind of music.

HillBilly, haven't you PM m0ds, Trapezoid or other guys that can make music? If you don't who can do music, just check the music-making icon on their posts.

For the first: This is not the right forum for it. This goes to the Adventure chat & talk.

Secondly: It depends. If your game is a bit smaller than 1 MB you can post it in the upload in the critics lounge. If bigger, you have to upload it on a server like Geocities and such. There is a similiar topic where it tells which hosts are good and bad.

Could you show me an example, Darth?
#512
Here is my latest version of the Toursit center. I have tried to make the shadows like in Darth Mandrab's example. Also I have changed the soda-machine a bit, changed the seashells and added some posters on the tourist center.

#513
Well, your example isn't in the right size, but what the heck! You made a very good reference though. Not to disapoint you but the toursit center doesn't have any window, it's just a guy that will be sitting there. Well, I can't see the window thing anyway.

Thanks for the reference, Darth!  ;)

Thanks for the opinions.

I have done some changes here.

1: Altering the color so your eyes doesn't hurt anymore. (How come that I'm the only one who doesn't get my eyes hurt for watching a picture of basci greens and reds?)

2: Added shadows and shading at a lot of places.

3: Changed the leaves on the coconut-palm and the tree-trunk.

4: Changed the seashells and starfishes.

5: Made some sandeffects.

6: Fixed the hoirson.

7: changed the perspective of the soda-machine and Tourist-center.

8: Gave the clouds a lighter tone (clouds aren't plain white in reality, they're more like whitish lightgray.

I haven't changed the thick jungle though becuase I wasn't sure on how to tackle the problem. Maybe I will fix it later. I will add some more stuff to make it more interactive in the game even if this is not a so importaint location (the game starts here but you need to return here for a thing or two).

Janar: Sheesh, you're so annoying when you advertise Google, besides Altavista is my cup of tea. About the sky color, I tried to make a tone to actual sky where you see it goes from light blue to whitish lightblue as you look from the sky to the horison. Besides, I have seen other games where the sky isn't dark blue like your Google examples.

What do you think of this one?

Now, if you did something comic-STYLE, like say, having those dialogue balloons appear when someone is talking and using lots of sentences used to describe sound ( a big, red BLAM!, for instance), it may come out pretty, pretty neat. But as Boyd said,

Quoteit'd probably take more effort than it's worth.

Speaking of that, Adventures of Fatman: Toxic Revenge did used some big BLAM comictexts when explosions occur (together sound-effect).

QuoteBombs and adventure games don't mix! Think about the children.

Hillbilly, you must have a bad fall. There have been lot of explosives and explosions in many adveture games so what's so bad about that? Look at the MI-games, Night of the Hermit, Phleurgburg, Sam & Max and other adventure games had explosives and explosions, so what harm can posibly be.

Back to topic, I don't think that would work, it would be tricky to script and also be hard to make backgrounds for that kind of thing. Besides, in adventure games you're much more likely to revist a lot of places and comics doesn't work like that (maybe in story telling but not in the terms of adventure games).

Critics' Lounge / Tourist center background
Sun 16/05/2004 12:52:17
I have made a background for my latest project (yes, I have put Hawaiian Treasure on the side but just for now because I written the game ever since 2001 when I still was in Gymnasium School before I ever encountered AGS, at that time I first played The Curse of Monkey Island, the favorite of the series) Caribbean Mysteries. It's in that game the pirate captain Pepe Roni will be featured in (remember the guy that I asked about choosing a beard for?).

Anyway, here is the first background in the game.

I have draw the picture by hand, scanned it in my PC, cleaned and coloring it. I'm not 100 % satisfied with it so I ask you guys: What do you think? Is there anything I can do to improve the picture? Let me hear your opinions.

And yes, the style is cartoonish, it's meant to be.

Can you guys stop mocking this fellow and try to be NICE to him?  >:(

The AGS Forum Community is for to help people and not to mock them. Just because he has a picture of a sword on his posts, it doesn't mean you can mock him because you think it's bad (okay so it doesn't look so good), I mean we haven't seen his other art yet. So... stop being rude for no or stupid reason and help him instead!!!  >:( >:( >:( (Sheesh, what a bunch of jerks!)

Legge: Could you tell us about the story of the game? It will be more helpful for thinking out the title. It's a bit hard to come up with any good titles if we don't know what the story is, you know. Of course, you don't need to tell the whole thing, just how it begins or whatever.

One question: Will the demo quest feature a full Lucas Arts Verb Coin?
#520
If you ask me, I say that Sci-fi is even more interresting than history.
