Hints & Tips / Re: Ben Jordan 5

I'm stuck at Day 5:

Spoiler
I'm in Yamahata Inc. (or whatever the name was, don't remember so well) and I've got the metal for Simon but I can't find any wire. I have checked the door with the vent, in the office (the room with the desks and file-cabinets), the room with the fugu aquarium and the room with the locked door. The handle on the locked door is too big for the Doorsucker to fit. I've tried to get of the hook of the chain but it won't work.

It's very great game. In my oppinon it is the greatest of all games. Just one little thing though:

Spoiler
When you take the wire, Ben doesn't go to the computer to get it.

Maybe they're all joking about falling for it.

Maybe or maybe not.

Well, I wasn't fooled that easily, not only I knew it was April the first yesterday but the change of everything was all too sudden, plus when there was nothing you could go except for the forums I thought "This can't be for real, it's got to be an April Fool's joke".

Sheesh, I can't believe that so many of you did fall for this. (shakes my head while rolling my eyes)

So how long will the vote take, it's only 48 hours left before the new month starts?

I say 2D version fits much better than 3D. Haven't got much comments save one: If you compair the background with the GUI, the inventory does have black lines in sort of comic-book style. I suggest to try shift the black lines into darker version of the color of the bag (or sack or whatever). Otherwise it's great.

It could be just me, but I like LucasArts-style or Cocktel Vision-style speech much better.

Every time I see a Sierra-style dialogue, it just like if someone slapped me in the face and said: "It's not real, it's just a story/book".

(This applies especially to seeing a message box saying what I did "You took the bread, but didn't touch the mouldy cheese." instead of seeing the character actually doing it, and possibly commenting on it...)

I really agree with Seaduck. I too prefer the message over the character's head and talks through the mouth rather than using a window with the portrait of the character.

It looks promising. I really look foward to this game.

I don't remember that Guybrush ever got hold on rum that's very old in MI2, I recalled that he did got non-acholholic grog and in MI4 he got very old grog.

IIRC when you get to a certain old pirate, you are given a mug of really old rum (or maybe it was grog) and have to switch it with alcohol-free grog. At any rate you do hold the mug of old liquor for a while.

It wasn't very old rum but very STRONG grog which made Guybrush faint everytime he drank.

Larry 6 has oranges. Larry 2 has a fruit bowl.
Kyrandia 2 has various kinds of fruits but I'm not sure which. It also has a bandana that the main character carries, even if it doesn't show up in the inv.list.
Monkey Island 2 has very old rum, as do various detective games (specific ages generally not given).
Cadaver has 100-year-old beer. And probably the other drinks as well.

A bonsai (Japanese fakeplants made of stone)
Bonsai are neither fake nor stone (nor plants, technically they're trees). (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonsai)

Also, have you played Keen Dreams?

Oh, I thought that bonsai was plants or trees that are faked. Anyway, about the fruit bowl it doesn't count because it's a fruit bowl and I was talking about the fruits alone. Okay, oranges have been comfirmed been used. If a bandana isn't a inventory item then it doesn't count.

I don't remember that Guybrush ever got hold on rum that's very old in MI2, I recalled that he did got non-acholholic grog and in MI4 he got very old grog.

Keen Dreams, never heard of it? Is that an adventure game? I only have played Lucas Arts games and AGS games.

Porta potty was in DOTT.. used as a teleporter..

Not as an inventory item, besides the Chron-O-John wasn't a teleporter but as a Time Machine.

About the termites, there was some in Escape From Monkey Island.

About the guitar in Zak, yes you could buy it and it does come in handy too. There's also a guitar in Night of the Hermit.

Have these been used:

Grapefruit
Orange
Pineapple
Group of grapes
Strawberries
Raspberries
Cherries
Kumquats
Kiwi fruits
Mango
Squash
Gourds
Watermelon
Honeymelon
Zukini (no, not the John Muir shaped zukini-squash from Sam & Max)
Sweet Potato
Passion fruit
100+ year old beer
100+ year old rum
100+ year old whiskey
A bandana
A bonsai

Oh, so that's the pic from the banner. Looks very good but it surprised me that the place was on a beach when, from judging by the banner, I always thought it was some kind of tower or a lighthouse. Oh well! Can't wait for the full game to come out.

A Head ON A Stick.

Wasn't there a Head on a Stick in Space Quest 3?

What about:

charcoal
a swiss army knife
a glue stick
a guitar
an empty cd-case
yesterday's lunch

So far, so bad.
nihilyst

there was charcoal on the hand of fate

And in Apprentice 2.

Sorry for being such a ba***rd by telling off with such a intense way, I was just annoyed and frustrated that I didn't get finished as quick as I hoped for (Just some tweaks, getting the words of approval and then done) and when Helm used that joke paintover I was even more annoyed because it didn't help me and I was fearing that it would be like the "Santa's wife's shoe" topic, which could meant that the topic was going to take forever and since I have worked with the first part of the game (which is going to be released in the demo) over a year, steadily got postponed because of all kinds of problems. I'm really sorry, really I am very sorry for this incident. I'm going to try hard not to get this angry over joke paintovers, I promise. Please forgive me guys.

CJ, sorry I wasn't aware of that I broke the rules, I just was annoyed and frustrated and that kind of humor isn't really my part of humor.

Now, here's a totally new pose of the hypnotist:

Khrismuc and ManicMatt's comments had some points since the Hypnotist is about 60 years old. If an old guy would bend over he would go: Crack! "Oh, my back!!". That's why I changed from beding over to make him stand on his knees.

I also extended his arms since they were too short to reach the ground. I'm aware of that his lower right arm looks weird and the hands are in wrong sizes but I'll fix that later. Other than that, is there anything else that I might improve?

Also, I have been thinking that I would make it as an animation instead of just switching from the standing view to the pick up veiw (it would make more sense by the way since he have to trying to get the coin for a few seconds, which is part of a puzzle). I'm going to work on the between-frames once I'm done with this.

You can't notice the difference much because his arm covers the back so you can't see it very well.

Helm, if you're not trying to give me any advice or constructive critism, then don't post at all, especially not stupid, pointless, unfunny, mocking remakes of my stuff (and others too). Okay?

QuoteYou could still straighten his back a little bit. In his current state he looks like he's gonna fall down any second.

How about this?

Is it better now? I moved his right arm a bit and his belt buckle and changed the west.

I looked around the topic after the screenshot of the "first" dow but the place where is should be there's no pic. I'm sure something it wrong the screenshot. I also tried look on the website for the game but that particular screenshot isn't there either. Anyway, I'm sure the shape doesn't really matter that much.

Oh, I also realized that I repeated the question of Tom's name. How embaressing!  :-[

Keep on going! Hope I can play this about the beginning of summer.

Sorry for not made any posts for awhile but I've been quite busy. One of the reason is that I just become uncle.

Anyway, here's a newer version of the hypnotist bending over:

This is what I've done:

* Used the same head but hightened his neck and bended it slightly. I also made the nose less pointy.
* Shortened the man's arms.
* Bended the man's body more so he reaches more to the ground. I also changed the vest. I didn't use SBsLoVeNiA's vest because it didn't look right, as well as the shading of the shirt.
* I used SBsLoVeNiA's legs and butt though.

I think it looks better but I'm not sure if it's done or not. So, what do you guys say?
