I am fairly confident that I will be able to attend.  Anytime mid-July onwards would be good for me.

I made an entry and what a suprise, it contains mountains :)

Spoiler
It evokes a feeling of Bob Ross, er I mean peace and serenity :)

Okay, voting over!

I declare Jim Reed the winner! YAYAAYAYAY
Well done to all the participants, they were all nice entries :)

So over to him for the next competition. Go!
#184
I guess I should vote too!

Idea: Vukul  Super Villian logic never fails!
Atmosphere: Jim Reed.  You B&W certainly works well here.
Design: Jim Reed. I love the cactus and stylized shadows.
Composition: Jakerpot.  My eye was drawn towards the cave, which I guess is the focal point.
Functionality: Jakerpot.  The scene certainly would be ideal for an AGS game.  I would have voted for Vukul if the fence didnt render much of the background difficult to work with.
Technique: Jim Reed.  Your style is coming along nicely!

So, overall, Oddysseus Jim Reed pips my overall vote.  I did enjoy all the entries though :)

I'll probably end voting by the end of today (Thursday) so if there are more to come in, hurry up!

General Discussion / Re: Lenz Flarez!!!11!

This is great Ryan.  I have been looking for a good way to make a stylish effect such as this for a particular room in the game I am currently working on and just like magic, you pop up with this. It's like you are some sort of psychic.

Just great.  Keep up the good work!

Right, so it looks like there are no more entries so onwards with the voting.  I've nicked the voting categories from a previous blitz :D

Idea: Was it an original/creative interpretation of the theme?
Atmosphere: Was an interesting world created? - Did the scene evoke a feeling?
Design: How well the individual elements are designed, from clouds to doorknobs.
Composition: How well the elements are combined to create a pleasing whole, and lead the viewer to the points of interest.
Functionality: How well it would work as a background, with clearly defined entries and walkable areas, as well as a good viewing angle (this also includes introductionary shots of an area as long as a player character can be present in the scene).
Technique: How well it's rendered (within the chosen style!), in no way meaning the more elaborate the better

Ready! Set! GO!

Allright, the new background blitz will be entitled:

'SECRET HIDEOUT'

Let's see some backgrounds of a Master Evil World Super Genius' lair or your little treehouse in the woods (or something inbetween).

AGS compatible as usual.  Thats it!  Have fun :)

Entries by the 18th January

Here is my entry.  Once again, I am pretty pleased with it, although there is probably some room for improvement.  Anyway,  I based my design on a wintery Alpine scene (probably Switzerland), since it is a place that I personally love.  It makes me want to go back there right now!

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas!

General Discussion / Re: when in UK...
Sat 19/12/2009 22:39:32
Since I am from around this area, I thought my input could be useful. Now, anywhere around Windsor won't be cheap, even for a 1 room apartment.  I did a quick search using www.rightmove.co.uk and found that prices can range from between £900 - £1500 a month.

Depending on how much you want to live in Windsor, there are a few places around it that are probably more affordable...like Slough, Maidenhead and Staines(a bit further).

As for jobs, there are some general sites like www.Reed.co.uk that might be useful and there might be some local job agencies around that I cannot remember of the top of my head right now.  It would be worth noting that short term jobs (in my experience) are pretty hard to come by, but it all depends on what your girlfriend has in mind.  I'm sure there are plenty of office jobs out there.

If I think of anything more, I will let you know!

Congratulations Nihilyst!

And thanks to Ben304 for hosting :)

I think I will try  and take part in more Blitzes, I had a nice time
#191
I'm glad to see so many entries too, I hope everyone else had as much fun as I did making my background.  Thanks for a great topic Ben :)

As for my votes:

Idea: jon_swe
Atmosphere: cuestaluis
Design: nihilyst
Composition: nihilyst
Functionality: Kastchey
Technique: Chicky

I might edit later when I have more time and give my reasons for my choices

I'm interpreting your background in two ways...  Either the slightly above eye level view which Ryan has shown or as if you are looking down on the room at an angle from a much higher viewpoint (see the quick mock up below).  If so then your vanishing point is going to appear way of the top of the page.  Perhaps this is what you mean by making the doors feel more 3D?

However, judging by the table it seems you meant it to be like Ryan has suggested but my eyes seem to want me to interpret it differently.  Either way it is a good start :) Just get to grips with one point perspective first and then take it from there.
#193
Well I liked them both but I think if I had to choose I would go with Bicilotti since some interesting coding must have gone into it.  Congrats to both though for keeping the HG alive :)
#194
Woohoo,  After missing deadlines for past background blitz's (mainly through laziness and doing other things),  I decided to enter this one.  As soon as I saw the topic,  I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted so jumped straight in and whipped this up in  the last two eveinngs.  Pretty pleased with it so I hope you all enjoy it too.  It's a 320 x 200  background double sized:

Well the best way to get rid of debug mode is through the General Settings in AGS Editor, which can be found at the top of the right hand menu area.

Find The Compiler section and change "Enable Debug Mode" to false.  That will do it.
#196
Congratulations on your first release CraZyMuffin!  I'm enjoying the game so far, it's definately a nice first release.

You might want to turn debug mode off though :)
#197
Thanks for the report Leon.  I guess that is the bug that Roger reported but gave few details.  I will fix it soon
#198
Hi Roger, I'm glad you were enjoying the game and am sorry you experienced a crash.  We did thorough testing but that one obviously didn't come up.  I've private messaged you for further details and hope to resolve the issue soon.  P.S. Welcome to the forums
#199
Wow this looks great! I'll make sure to keep an eye on this one.  Good luck
#200
Thanks for all the positive responses guys, It makes me feel good.  Your offer of music would be great ProgZ, it would certainly add some more atmosphere to future games.  Might even bring it into the first game too!

I've just opend AGSeditor to start laying the foundations of part 2.  Yippee
