AGS ANNUAL COVER COMPETITION

The back of the case will included a list of the content of the disc, while the spine will match last year's annual, so entries should be limited to the front, which has a dimension of:

1536x2175 pixels (wxh)

Entries should be supplied as either TIFFs, PNGs or JPEGs (the less compression the better), and emailed to me:

mattgoble is my username, gmail is my account.  Hope that makes sense

What does the winner get?

Whether the 'winner' is coming to either Brittens or Mittens or not, I will send them a final copy of the annual, along with any other 'goodies' I can think of.

Excellent, thanks Nacho. Another solution, as Grundislav suggested, would be to get up early, take an afternoon nap and stay up late.

Having already burnt myself to a crisp a few weeks back, I agree about the need for a bit of shade & coolness if possible!

mattgoble: we're assuming you're coming with us, as there's no particular need for you to get the train. If you want to go by train though, that's fine, the car is still worthwhile even with only 4 of us.

Right, I've got a huge list of people I need to drop pms to (not THAT pms obviously), and I will get around to it I promise.

Everything is a bit of a mess at present so I think it's going to be a mad rush to the finish like last year.

Picking up from Scotch's point, so far, no one has ever said no to their stuff being included on either Annual, so from here on in, I might just grab everything and obviously credit everyone.

Jumping in on Jet's post, I'm trying to collect as many photo's, videos and the like from previous gatherings to include on this year's Annual, so if I haven't spoken to you, or you haven't spoken to me, I might just end up helping myself anyway!!

Apologies for not posting sooner; things are manic at present & I managed to cook half my face off at the Farnborough Air Show over the weekend (Great photo's though  ).

I'm assuming there is still a call for volunteers to make their own way from Barcelona to Alicante?  Considering that I'm on a different flight from the rest of you, and need to be back at the airport a few hours before you, it's probably best if I throw myself on the proverbial transport sword!!

It appears there is a train which runs from the airport to the main railway station in the city every 30 minutes.  Is this correct, and would this be the correct station for the Euromed train, or will I need to make another connection?

Where is the railway station in relation to the campsite?  Would you reccomend a taxi, or is there a decent bus service?

I think I might have found my tent from last year, in which case, I might bring that.  I will obviously give you plenty of warning so you don't bring a tent down for nothing!

Hird: The one you're proposing is rather more expensive than the first one mentioned in this thread.

Still this kind of offer is hard to say no. I'm at 1 Gb space and 10 Gb monthly transfer only :p . But anyhow doesn't seem that I have any problem yet. I never surpass the 3 Gb monthly limit...

$4.95--$5.25? That's not much. And if you'd take a look at what they offer, it's well worth it.

Also, I have only heard bad things about netfirms.

But aren't we comparing $10 for a year for £5.25 / month?

I tried some thicker paper, but the problem was it got stuck in my printer, so the best I could do was with the posterboard.  It's pretty sturdy as it is.  Granted, it's not as think as a real box, but it isn't flimsy either.

Ah, crossed wires!  You could print on thinner paper and then glue it to the thicker card.

Have you looked into getting any art board from craft shops and the like?

You can buy sheets of dense card about 2-3mm thick which you could paste your printed artwork onto to get a thicker, sturdier box.

Which incidentally could pad out the rest of a dvd if you've got a lot of space free, I doubt anyone would mind about their stuff getting put on the annual.

Ionas did give me the thumbs up last year, but unfortunately I had already made the discs.

So far no-one has said no (touch wood), so depending how things go I may be in touch for some 'suggestions' as to how to fill out the disc.

Somewhat to my surprise, the people at www.archive.org actually do archive the internet, having accumulated several petabytes of data so far and growing rapidly.

Bah! Amateurs compared with Scotch & AGA, although I do believe archive.org does hold a copy of the Adventures of Fatman!

DVD is looking like a good option - I'll hang off and see how many megs the final folders work out at - if it's only 1.4 gigs, I might as well do a couple of CDs.

Just an FYI - I do intend to IM / Email people with a thankyou for their contributions, I'm just snowed under with the downloading side at present (just as well I'm moving off Pipex at the end of the month, their AUP might have something to say about this!!)

I was thing C90 Music Tape...  Fastforward until your counter reaches 400 to load AGS 2.72...

I don't even have a cd drive (plastic slabs of data? But I have the internet!), but the AGS Annuals as much of a collector's thing as anything, so I don't mind what format it comes in.

Yeah, I think I already had all the AGS Annual 1 content on my hard drive, but it's cool to have a solid collectable thing to keep.

AGA & Scotch have archived the Internet, should it crash one of these days 

Next year, my challenge will be to include something you guys don't have (I will be taking suggestions at this year's Mittens, the only limitation being it must be something to go on an optical disc, and that I can smuggle thorugh customs  )

Well I'm glad we cleared that up!

I know Layabout doesn't have a DVD drive (or didn't at Brittens last year), I just want to feel the temperature of the rest of you guys - I know we 'do' retro but c'mon DVD is almost retro now!

Maybe next year's will be on Blu-Ray!

Matt, although I don't really care - I just want you to know I like your design

Last year's cover was knocked together about midnight a couple of days before Brittens, and I figure It would be quite nice to have quite unique covers each year, a bit like those posh design mags you see in WHSmith.  Of course this will just be the front cover - the spines of the Annuals will match up!!

There'd better be some sheep around this time.

Well, it's looking like I won't be able to make it to Brittens this year (Although the sheep do sound tempting).  Heard from my solicitor that I have a completion date for my house move on the 31st July, so I can see myself being halfway through a nervous breakdown by the 3rd week of the month and certainly very skint.

Still, I will be there in spirit and look forward to seeing most of you at Mittens.  Those of you who won't be coming to Alicante, I will get you copies of the AGS Annual one way or another.
