I would suggest a bit more detail on the firs (?) to suggest the presence of needles, or leaves. The bushes look fairly detailed and realistic, but the trees are one single lump of green.

I second that. Otherwise, nice BG.

Any comments welcome.

Nice work! 'Nuff said!

Thren, a character can have either 4 or 8 views. 8, if you do diagonal walkcycles.

Draw all the individual sprites for the different directions (side/up/front) and import them. You assign views to your character ingame and animate them with the animate command. Just do the tutorial, it's all in there.

SSH's walkcycle generator could be of help: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=26501.0

The contribution thread too. I made a generic walkcycle here: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=14864.msg520576#msg520576

Oh, and please don't post the same question in different threads.

Cool competition with great entries! And stupid me failed to participate again  :'(

I would've picked the fallout entry as the 1st place too, it's a nice one.

Nice work! Sprites and background fit perfectly together.

Stop using words like "ugly"!

Stop using this avatar. Marx would've fought alogside the pixelproletariat against the dictatorship of bourgoise modern graphics.  ;)

And lets try not to get this locked just say something about the beta or howyou can help out with the real game & I might come out with a full battle beta next

You started three GiP threads already and never listened to what people tell you. Why should this one not get locked? Perhaps you should go through the other threads again:

I'd say that Moonstone was popular for its atmosphere, adrenaline kicks, sound, multiplayer support and the amount of gore. We wanna keep these things in mind but also add new stuff (random encounters, easter eggs, locations) and eliminate MS's serious flaws. These flaws were the following:

- The AI players randomly walked around the map without buying or fighting anything and were no threat at all for human players.

- The map was small, the game was short and you had no chance to save your game.

- You could easily beat every enemy if you sticked to a certain technique, thus the game was way too easy after some playing. Also, the enemies were boring due to their completely predictable behavior without the tiniest bit of randomization.

- Most of the (few) inventory items were rather pointless and you always awaited the point were you had enough money to buy the best armor or best sword. Afterwards you didn't really know what to do with you money and just slayed a growing amount of creatures.

I'm thinking about making an RTS about American girl scouts!

But a game bar? So, you go to a social place for unsocial activities, also, consume alcohol where concentration and reactions are needed?

You never drink anything while playing?  ;)

Also, I don't understand what's so new about a gaming bar and where the difference between that and e.g. an adventure expo, a Star-Wars con or a place with billard/table tennis lies.

I've been to a bar some weeks ago where you could play some console games, but it's always just an option to use, of course you could just sit down with friends to drink and chat - that's what we did.

If people like to play games but also like to go some place and probably meet other gamers - then why not go to a bar like this? That wouldn't be a place for me but I guess quite a few people will like it.

As mentioned in the first post, it is indeed inspired by Moonstone and yes, that should be considered a good thing  ;)

Quoteit'll prevent people from having epileptic seizures just from looking at your game
Was that supposed to be a joke, Khris? That kind of commentary just makes me wanna erase everything.

You didn't quote the smiley Khris posted. That Smiley should indicate that the phrase wasn't meant too seriously..

We made a Youtube Channel and uploaded two videos here and here.

Also, there's a new screenie in the first post.

I totally appreciate what you're trying to achieve with this game and - as I said - I know and like that anti-war campaign and those cool posters, but the game is almost unplayable with that kind of controls. It's very annoying that the drone can't fly diagonal and that you have to stop pressing a cursor key in order to press another one.

If you don't care it's okay, but otherwise I would offer help to make it more playable.

@ Ben: Thanks.

@ abstauber: Let's see about the intro... and the story. But I'm glad you enjoyed Moonstone.

@ karja: Everything will be handrawn in 2D. Hope you'll like it.

The game is a mix of turn-based movement and real-time fights. The players wander around on a map, visiting lairs, towns and other locations. It's basically about fighting creatures and your opponents, with RPG elements like experience, skills and equipment.

While the gameplay is inspired by the old Amiga classic Moonstone, we improve things a lot. The AI controlled opponents are quite clever already and the fight system is more elaborate, meaning that you can't just accustom yourself to a simple technique in order to easily beat your enemies. Also, the map is larger and more varied, and reappearing lairs technically result in unlimited gameplay. While the fight between two knights basically works like a duel, it's a whole other experience to fight creatures like spiders and trolls as your movement speed and attack and defense moves will change.

Either play the alone and bring an epic story to a happy end or play against AI players or your friends via hotseat.

It's going to be commercial, but we haven't decided on a price yet.

Features:

  • single-player storymode
  • AI controlled players
  • hotseat function for up to four players
  • 800x600 32-bit graphics
  • detailed hand-drawn backgrounds
  • various landscapes, effecting backgrounds, movement and enemies
  • a duel system and fighting techniques depending on the type of enemy
  • a customizable difficulty level, effecting the reactions and behavior of the enemies
  • very simple keyboard control, yet a variety of moves

It's also really really cool that this game is still being played, even after one month of its release ;D

Yeah, I still have to play it too, and I will, in a few days. I started to play right after it was released but unfortunately couldn't load my saved game - I think that bug was mentioned in the MAGS thread. Well, since I didn't want to start all over I discontinued playing it, but now I got interested again.

Reporting back when I finished it  :)
