Since WW2, Germany was also mainly ruled by the christian party, but nevertheless it's one of the least religious countries. The christian party is one of the two major parties and that won't change in the near future. But the party is mainly supported because people believe it does a good job (not me) and because they're conservative, not religious.

Khris statement that countries with the best living standards are the least religious ones is just true. I can understand that since poor people in countries waged by war have more to pray for...

Besides that I think I'll stay out of this thread until it gets less personal, friendlier and stops being a (mainly two-man-)discussion about definitions..

I keep a single notebook next to my computer and fill out it with queries of bugs and suggestions every time I play test my game.

It's fun to see it get longer, and longer, and longer each play session.  :P

Yeah, that's how I do it too. For one thing I accomplish there are three new ones coming. But I'm happy when I managed to do all the things on one list so I can throw it away!

I tried making all my notes on a computer, but it seemed completely unintuitive, time consuming and pointless.

[...]

but I like to take notes with the game/editor open. And in another room when an idea hits me.

So I refuse to accept your claim of winning  :=

Yep, everything seconded.

Well, I was originally talking about game-related paperwork. When it comes to general paperwork, I have some hundreds of sheets filling my room, mainly uni-stuff. I gotta get rid of everything I don't need anymore, it's all a bit messy...

This for example is one of my many (game-related) to-do-lists:

These are around 50 sheets with scribblings, to-do-lists, ideas, calculations and other stuff. Well, they are for three projects and all three aren't adventures, but do you guys'n'gals have much paperwork too?

Well, miguel, this could mean that there's no politics and religion IN WINTER!

..maybe more politics then..

2. To quote the french anarchist Ravachol:

" Yes, I repeat it: it's society that makes criminals and you jurymen, rather than striking them, you should use your intelligence and your powers to transform society. At once you would suppress all crime; and your work, in attacking the causes, would be greater and more fecund than your justice that limits itself to punishing the effects. "

Alternatively:

"Fuck you all, you disgust me, and you're not in the slightest better than me. Also, Rupert Murdoch should be executed."

Yes, there is a difference between method and purpose. Science is the usage of certain methods. Research has a purpose and is trying to reach this goal using methods. So research is a part of science, the one that is trying to create tools or medicine..

Most light from light bulbs is emitted by the phosphor or the filament, but I'm sure your grasp of science is awesome  ;D

No, not most light from lightbulbs, but the light from most lightbulbs.. so what's your point?

@ Misj: I don't get you! You say the common definition of sience and research is wrong and it's the other way around. So mathematics, philosophy etc. are research, not sciences. And science is just a part of research...

Okay, nice, where do we go from here? And what's the point in reversing those two terms?

Sciences use strict methodology, so do mathematics and philosophy. When I do some maths for an economy game I'm working on, you call that research?
#1591
Okay, sorry, Misj, must have missed that. Usually I get sarcasm, but with so many unbelievable things that have been in this thread it becomes hard to tell what has been meant seriously or not.

I will reread your last posts and try to get your point about why Khris' view on science is so wrong, unless of course, you want to quickly repeat it in a nutshell.
#1592
Misj:

While it's true that Khris gets a little harsh sometimes, I don't agree to the rest of what you've just posted.

1. If your claim that Khris view of science is "flat-out incorrect" is based on your opinion that scientist are within the laziest and inproductive people on earth and that the theory of scientific methodology doesn't even come close to reality, then I just can't take you seriously. Not only scientists but even philosophers work very picky when it comes to keeping the conditions and methods they learned to use.. and if they don't they will be mostly ignored and not credited. But this has already been said several times (by Khris at least).

2. Regarding Lionmonkey I fully support KhrisMUC. I wouldn't say that he necessarily lacks basic logic, but all he does is throw in some rethorical phrases and questions, but almost never answers the questions / replies to the statements that he quotes. For that reason I already started ignoring him.

I know shit about math, so Khris might be the man, but...

If you know where the line starts, you could simply do something like:

if (mouse.y<mouse.x) ....

This would work if the line starts at the bottom left of the room and goes to the upper right. If it starts somewhere else, just add some numbers..

Have you asked / seached in a Photoshop or Illustrator forum? I got some useful infos on several issues that way (even without asking).

From the manual under "Name property (inventory)":

Quote
(Formerly known as GetInvName, which is now obsolete)
(Formerly known as SetInvItemName, which is now obsolete)
(Formerly known as InventoryItem.GetName, which is now obsolete)
(Formerly known as InventoryItem.SetName, which is now obsolete)

String InventoryItem.Name;

Gets/sets the name of the inventory item. This is the name which is initially set under the Game tab, Inventory mode of the AGS Editor.
You can change this property if for example you want to change a 'bowl' to a 'bowl with water in' but want to use the same inventory item for it.

Note that the maximum length for the name of an inventory item is 24 characters - if the name you set is longer than this, it will be truncated.

Since you're using an old version I guess it's one of the former commands.

But that's only half of the truth. While saying that all humans are 'equal', throughout the middle ages the christian church defended the idea that kings and other absolutist leaders were chosen by god, thus not questionable*, unless of course the church was in conflict with said man. Also, as it's been said already, women NEVER had the same rights as men and non-christians neither.

And if christianity wouldn't have put europe into a 1000 year long complete downtime, who knows if the western civilizations wouldn't have come to modern systems of equality rights even earlier?

* even Martin Luther told the poor that they have no right to stand up against their opressors (only to read the bible in their mother language..)

Jim, your hope wasn't in vain  ;)

It's some dwarf dude:

Ah, do we have to end the rhyme? Erm... because I came by a.. dwarf?

Nice and clean style (especially the GUI). Lookin forward to it.
#1599
@ Arjon. True, but the GUIs that come with the standard template are obsolete and will be replaced by some options in the balance sheet room.

Oh, yes, and when terrorists destroy a building/plain floods etc., the player is told that it happened, but not where exactly. That imo brings the game down, forcing the player to search for it, thus wasting time that he should be playing the game.

True, of course this will be visible in the finished version. Also, there will be more events.

Colour coding the tiles would make strategic thinking a bit more easy.

What do you mean with color coding?

Ah yes, I had 5 SAM sites, but a missle destroyed one. How's that possible if a SAM gives 20% destroy missle probability?

Strange. I'll look into it. On the other hand I AM going to make a maximum of ~90 % or something, but I didn't do that yet so something must go wrong.

Edit: Ha, just realized that FLAK is the german version for SAM, sorry for possible confusion in the manual.

Overall, the game has good potential, and I'm looking to play the finished version.

Unfortunately, the finished game won't be too different, except from AI-improvement, finished graphics and some extras. But as I said, this began as an experiment and now that I know what I can do (e.g. with tiles) I certainly will start a more elaborate strategy (or similar) game someday.
