Now to the point: Can you really call a fact something that has a chance to not be true? It would be like saying that every human has got 5 fingers on each hand. So why call it the "facts", the "truth"?

It's a fact that people can have more than five fingers, so your point being?

Yes, I agree with Jared and was about to say the same. The lighting on the right tower indeed doesn't make much sense.

I don't understand what your problem is. Just do it the way you described it...

-an enemy character appears

cEnemy.Changeroom(bla); And perhaps cEnemy.Walk(bla);

-it begins an animation doing the loop one time (the loop is: enemy point a gun at the player and fire)

cEnemy.Changeview(bla);cEnemy.Animate(bla);

-at the end of the loop the player is hit (an X shape object appears at the botton of the screen)

Something like:
If (cEnemy.Frame==x)  {hit=true;counter=80;}
If(hit){
 Hitpoints--;
 hit=false;
}

if(counter>0){
 if(counter==80) object[bla].visible=true; // object[bla] being the "X"
 if(counter==1) object[bla].visible=false;
 counter--;
}

-if the enemy is clicked (interact with..) on during the loop he dies and another appears

Just animate a death sequence and make the enemy change the room and let another one or the same appear again...

-when the player get hits 3 times (3 X`es)-game over

if(Hitpoints==0) QuitGame();

Conspiracies involving bloody piles of goo? Sounds entertaining!

@ Vince:

Thanks. Never played Clue on PC (or NES), but many other games annoyed me when you had to look away in multiplayer mode.

@ Dual:

Thanks. Together with my third project (signature), which hasn't got a thread yet, I think I've touched around 5 genres, but not the adventure genre yet. Oh, about the name: It was clear right from the beginning that there won't be any story and that the game itself wouldn't make too much sense. So I just wrote down game-related words to see if I can use a cool abbreviation, and I thought TESLA is short & catchy, so I took it.

Ah, I forgot to mention that: There already is AI. Right now, the 3 opponents are computer-controlled but I'll maybe add a hotseat-function for multiplayer purposes. I'm not sure yet, cause it could be a bit annyoing since the players would have to look away when it's not their turn. Or maybe I make it a team game: Two humans against two AIs... I'll see what I can do.

I also forgot to mention that the fights will be real-time action, with detailed sprites like those in the GUI. I just don't have a screeshot of that yet..

TESLA

Trade - Expansion - Strategy - Lottery - Auctions

This game started as an experiment some days ago. I just wanted to see if I'm able to make something tile-based... and it worked just fine. After fiddling around some more I decided to make a game of this. Just a little game, to kill some time..

It's partly inspired by the old amiga game "Traders". The game is turn-based and divided in several phases, where the four players do different things.

I could complete the game within 1-2 weeks, but I have to study a lot (which is also a reason for not uploading a demo of Anarchy on Mars yet, btw). I think I'll be able to release a finished version in October though.

1. Build phase:
- Take free land, get resources and build stuff.

2. Attack phase:
- Recruit units and attack/bombard/plunder the enemy

3. Trade phase:
- Sell resources for gold or vice versa

4. Lottery phase:
- Win some gold!

5. Auction phase:
- Purchase low priced extra troops before your enemies do

6. Balance sheet
- Take a look at how good you are compared to the other players

(7. Random events)

- 800x600, 32-bit

- 4 different kind of tiles

- 9 different buildings

- 5 different units + missiles

- 4 resources

Almost fully playable game available here (but with unfinished graphics, missing things and lacking AI):

(download button is at the bottom right of the page)

Screenies (Quite a few sprites are still placeholders):

That's some seriously twisted thinking you got there, Nathan.

Gays should become monks/nuns for the sake of not having sex with people of the same sex? What fucked up bullshit is that?

And could you tell me too why people shouldn't have sex before marriage? I know it's a common issue in christianity but one of the most senseless ones too. What exactly does marriage do that you can finally follow your feelings and desires??

Ah, right, Gods wants that stuff! I forgot! Don't use your brains.. just follow the commandments.
#1650
Wow, Nathan, now I'm having a hard time not being offensive, but I'll try. Is your god some braindead republican from Texas? You're one of the reasons why I want to live in a world without religions like christianity or Islam. Too many people abuse them to propagate bullshit like that.

And who cares if people are homosexual by choice or by genetics? What exactly makes it a sin and why?

Modern medicine, science, history, biology, chemistry, geology, astrology and other various sources all get together and make up my lack of faith in any deity, sure.

I hope you meant astronomy, not astrology  ;D

Also, Jim, K(h)ris is right. Please don't repeat telling us that it works but disprove the given arguments why people think it works and why it actually doesn't work.

Why can you (and all the other wannabe magicians) only heal deseases that would go away anyway or could be easily cured with medication? Why can't you cure some serious stuff, like cancer? Because God wants it to kill people? Or because he's to lazy or bloodlusty?

I can't shake the feeling that this game announcement is some kind of provocation.

Yeah, me too. He doesn't even check his own freshly started thread which is especially odd since it's a commercial game..

Looking good. I like the film noir style, good choice of colors and a cool atmosphere.

Looking forward to it.

Views can indeed have sprites with an alpha channel.

What do you mean with "the alpha channel does not display"? In the game or in the editor?

You actually can display a text at a certain point on the screen using a character. Just make an invisible dummy character and place him somewhere.

It's like he went from boy (MI1) to young man (MI2) back to boy again (MI3) to geek (MI4) to geek I want to punch in face (MI5/Tales).

Hahaha. That is SO true and you described it in the best possible way.

Too bad though, the graphics and the look of Guybrush were major reasons why I lost interest after MI2.

Secondly, the point was basically about people today relying on a 2000 year old book where such a thing was mentioned. It could have been some druggy slob who ate some magic mushrooms and had some serious hallizunations. Well, or the bush WAS on fire and somebody completely unrelated talked to that man. Or whatever..
Yes, and what if major scientific inventions were made the same way? We don't know for sure.

We USE those inventions, we KNOW that they work! 'nuff said.

Imagine that you are watching two guys far away from you. Unbeknownst to you, there's a mine, hidden in the ground behind them. Sudennly you see one guy punch another, who loses balance and falls on his back, right onto the mine. At the instant, his body touches the ground, the mine explodes. Given, that you know nothing about bombs or mines, what do you thing: You think that his skin hitting the ground caused the explosion.
While it's true, it's not the complete truth. So what if our earthly processes are actually influenced somehow by that hidden mine, that undetectable force, that no one has thought about simply becauase they've already found an explanation - true, but not complete.

Of course we don't know everything, but more and more is being illuminated. You know, explanations can be falsified and other explanations can replace those. That's what science is all about. But simply blaming stuff that cannot be explained at the moment onto god is a simple way of not asking further questions.

Is thinking that a perfectly balanced coin is able to land on heads a million times in a row with no cheating stupid?
Don't forget that it is possible that our world (planet/galaxy/dimension or further) is but a tiny part of them all, where infinity of possibilities happen. In one world a coin will land on heads 2 times in a row, in another 3, in the next one 4 and so on, up to the infinity. But does it mean that the coin will always land on heads? No. So, why is it stupid to think that even if something with a chance of not happening happened very very many times in a row it may someday not happen?

Getting a car to drive using fuel and some mchanics has nothing to do with flipping a coin or parallel universes. Of course it always works, because we know why it works. It has nothing to do with chance or probability.

A man sees a burning bush talk, relates it to power of an omnipotent being. How does it differ?

Well, first of all, we can relate EVERYTHING we can't currently explain on an omnipotent being. It doesn't make it the truth though. Secondly, the point was basically about people today relying on a 2000 year old book where such a thing was mentioned. It could have been some druggy slob who ate some magic mushrooms and had some serious hallizunations. Well, or the bush WAS on fire and somebody completely unrelated talked to that man. Hey, we don't know if what people sense is even true, we don't know if we are just brains in a vat, experiencing a bad trip.
As I've previously mentioned, anything makes sense, if enough time is taken to explain it logically. An omnipotent being creating the world, a sphere circling around a big ball of fire while having people live on it's surface, even pink unicorns with wings and magic powers. What you call reality is what you choose from all of these to be most commforting.

You can call it whatever you want, it's still that part of the world we experience. If there's something else which we don't know... well, then there's something else that we don't know. It still only makes sense to work with what we see and feel.

Most of the conclusions science gave us are based on our experience on Earth, which is a tiny tiny part of the galaxy and even tinier part of the universe.

Okay, and why the hell should we care about non-existing experinces on something somewhere in the galaxy? We (still) live on earth you know! And if we can set rules and make conclusions about what's going on on earth then we should do so.

Quote
Now about the "it works" part. What if all these sucessful experiments and apllying of science have sucess because of a sheer chance of random luck?

I seriously hope that you're kidding. Do you think all AGS members can connect to the internet by sheer luck? Do you think some billion cars can drive by sheer luck? This is why Khris is talking about stupidity..

Science delivered, delivers and will deliver, no matter how many stupid idiots are trying to discredit it.

Please, move to Canaan, go live in a hut and become a goat herder, praying all day for not dying of the flu if you must, but please leave us sane people alone with that vacuous crap.

Replace the word "science" with any religion and you've got the thoughts of any religious fanatic, you laugh at on youtube. See how this "credibility" of their beliefs makes different people so similiar?

I don't know what your problem is, Khris' post made perfectly sense.

A couple of all the animals of the world fitting in an old prehistoric boat.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember the book mentionig size of the boat

I hope you're kidding again.

1. I just looked it up and it seems that the bible indeed describes the boat's size in Gen 6:14. Something like 133 meters long and 33 meters wide, with a storage room of some 40000 m³.

2. Despite that: Since the bible doesn't believe in evolution, ALL millions of different species and subspecies would have had to find space in that boat.

Noah's Ark is perhaps the most ridiulous thing in the bible one can take literaly.

Looking good. But please don't use jpgs. They make the images look blurry and there are much better formats around - like pngs.

Well, every host handles uploaded files differently and deletes them after a certain time period. I don't know mediafire, but maybe you should use some other site?
