RickJ: There are hilarious threads in there, I really recommend browsing it a bit if you're bored :)

Haha, I just did that for a while... it's unbelievable. At first I thought - like RickJ - that you were joking.

This is seriously freaked up, a government controlled icewall around the earth-dish... I see...

Integral fps counter.

If you want to display/see the fps, use the debug() command (see manual).

I was hoping for some in-game action to see how the gameplay works. The video wasn't really more than a screenshot slidewhow...

Lookin good nevertheless..

I don't get you guys... you're talking about scientists as if they were a certain exclusive kind of men. That's as untrue as to say, all religious people are the same.

Who cares if a scientist or a catholic has ordered to drop the bomb. You know, there are scientists who (deliberately or not) build weapons and others who don't. There are christians who kill and others who don't. There isn't much sense in simply dividing mankind in religious people vs. atheists or believers vs scientists.

Now that this thread is on top again, I guess I can give in my two cents too..

TGP was the first and only game I ordered online (and I think the only one I paid for since 2000 or something). I'm only half way through and don't have much time these days but I like it so far, it's worth the few bucks (4.41 â,¬ for me). There's a bit too much (silly) dialogs for my taste, but most of it is rather fun to read, so it's not really a problem.

Well, gotta finish it sometimes.. and I still have to play BTDN (which I only played half way through too), so thanks for the flashback intro.

Yeah, upload it so we can have a look..

It couldn't be easier. There's a "First time enter" event in the room's panel. Create that event and post you code there.

Edit:
In your case I can't imagine that it makes much sense though, because the player could enter the room right after the cook has thrown him out. If the player should accomplish something before he can enter the room, use a variable and check it to decide what should happen when he enters the kitchen.

You forgot a closing bracket, it should look like this:

Code: ags

function on_mouse_click(MouseButton button)
{
  if (IsGamePaused() == 1) // Game is paused, so do nothing (ie. don't allow mouse click)
  {
  }
  else if (button == eMouseLeft) {
    if (GetLocationType(mouse.x, mouse.y) == eLocationNothing) {
      mouse.Mode = eModeIra;
      ProcessClick(mouse.x, mouse.y, eModeIra);
    }                                                            // <-- this bracket was missing
    else ProcessClick(mouse.x, mouse.y, mouse.Mode );
  }
  else if (button == eMouseRight)
  {
    ProcessClick(mouse.x, mouse.y, eModeMirar);
  }
}

EDIT: Sorry, in your second code, the bracket is there. I've no clue why it doesn't work, are you sure you have set the walkable areas right?

Why doesn't the script work? What exactly happens?

KhrisMUC doesn't return to eModeWalkto!!  :'(  I 'm fried!! I still working on!!

Thanks!!

Nahuel.

You're fried just because Khris doesn't return to eModeWalkto?  ;D

No, seriously, KhrisMUCs script doesn't change the cursor, but lets the character walk. Try this instead:

Code: ags

  else if (button == eMouseLeft) {
    if (GetLocationType(mouse.x, mouse.y) == eLocationNothing) {
      mouse.Mode = eModeWalkto;
      ProcessClick(mouse.x, mouse.y, eModeWalkto);
    else ProcessClick(mouse.x, mouse.y, mouse.Mode );
  }

I guess this is what you sere looking for.

You create an object and use object.Animate to animate it. It's all in the manual.

I'm still a bit annoyed that anyone from a predominently western civilisation could still think that we are either a) alone in the universe or b) NOT being visited by ET's

a) I think it's rather unlikely (at least not definite) that we're alone in the universe, cause it's really really big. I guess it's possible that somewhere out there could be a planet similar to earth with some lifeforms on it, may it be bugs, apes or (already) intelligent humanlike creatures.... but that has nothing to do with some floating spots in the sky..

b) Well, as soon as I encounter an alien, I'll say: "Yes, it's true, we are being visited by aliens". Again, this has nothing to do with a blurry YT-video.

If you're really annoyed about that (b) , then after the same logic, people who believe in god should be annoyed about nonbelievers. They don't see or feel god.. then why should they believe in him?

This is a rather standardy question, but I never got an answer to it: Why the hell should any technically far developed civilization send some guys on a oh-so-damn-long-they'll-never-see-their-family-again- trip to earth, just to cruise around its orbit until someone has made a blurry video about them, and then start their journey home? What a stupid thing to do would that be!

There's an interesting interview with Noam Chomsky about healthcare and a functional democratic society.

"The privatized healthcare system is complaining bitterly right now because if there's an option of a public system [...] they won't be able to compete. That's a way of saying 'we're so inefficient and costly, we can't compete with a national health care system, so it's unfair'."

Sorry, I'm not really familiar with dialogs anymore, since I'm only working on non-adventure games for a long time now..

..but there is a run-script x command for using in dialogs. You should look that up in the manual.

Meh! Now I have the same problem - Overheating!

I can't even play a shooter anymore, after 10 minutes the laptop is hot as %&$/§ and shutting down... and it's only 7.5 month old.

Hopefully it can be repaired..

Hence the more character and story based direction I'm going for. I want players to be drawn in and intrigued, not just baffled and frustrated. ;)

Sounds good, but be aware that it's more fun to solve puzzles than to watch an interactive movie. Remember: It's supposed to be a game. Just try to find a good compromise between story + gameplay.

Good luck.

With all this intentional spread of misinformation and fear, I have no idea how America managed to make it to it's current position in the world, and certainly can't see it maintaining that position.

I think the spreading of fear and misinformation is one of the reasons for the USA's position in the world. If the government wouldn't create fear of Saddam, communists etc. the people wouldn't be dumb enough to sign in and fight stupid wars in countries they couldn't find on the map. And they wouldn't support such a large military etat either. If the conservatives wouldn't give out misinformation about other countries policies (regarding healthcare, social services or surveillance [the patriot act still is on, right?]), the people wouldn't condemn and label good things as "socialism".

The more the population is being kept ignorant, unaware and frightened, the more freedom the government has to do for whatever it wants to do. But I certainly agree that the USA can't hold its current position much longer... we'll see.

Why don't you just set a variable at the end of the dialog (a boolean to true or something similar)? Then, in the rep-ex of the room, you start the script when the variable is true..

Just make a region around the object and ask in the objects interaction (like the pickup event) if the character is standing on that region.

Like this:

if (Region.GetAtRoomXY(player.x, player.y) == region[1])
  // pick up object
