The current system of having three to six functions for one hotspot to me looks like a remnant of the interaction editor days and maybe wouldn't even have been implemented in the first place if AGS had started out without it.

Agreed. I find that rather annoying.

Completed Game Announcements / Re: Heed

Just finished it.

That was a strange experience... and a strange game, if you can call it that. But I like it, the atmosphere works well and I really dig these backgrounds.. and the characters as well. Most parts of the music added much to the atmosphere too. I also really liked the twist in the middle when the player becomes the fly.

As for the esoteriligiousophical context: ...well, it was interesting.. ;)

I'd like to see some kind of sequel (I really like that style) with more lenght and more puzzles.

The perfect character for a game called "Super Throttle".

Obviously, it's the guy from Full Throttle, "Ben" I think. 15 colors.

I just made this for my current game. Nothing spectacular, but why not participate.

"Force" is the right term, Ghost. Seemingly you aren't a SW-Nerd.  ;)

Downloading..

AGS Games in Production / Re: Anarchy On Mars

Hehe, thanks, Dual. I guess so... once in a while I get a compliment..

But - in case you thought so - I did NOT draw the clouds/sunset. I used a photo and just drawed the city in front of it. As for the Mars & Nebula, they're NASA photos.

A little demo with the first two levels (Nebula + City) should be up in a few days.

Thanks guys.

Well, the thing is, I drawed that cityscape in 2006, I think a few month before I got in touch with AGS and I didn't have anything game-related in mind when drawing it. And I used a crappy program without Layers and such, so it's just a sterile background without the ability for parallax scrolling.

BUT I'm going to either redraw it with layers or put some additional building objects in front. Either way there'll definitely be parallax scrolling in that level! Also, there will be a lot of depth due to ships moving in the background and obstacles that the player will pass by moving towards the camera or into the background.

Here's a larger version of the screenshot. I'll add some more details to a few of the buildings though. And to the right is the complete Mars surface level. It's 25 000 px high! If I'd make the scrolling go slowly the level could easily last several hours  :=

Anarchy On Mars

A not so serious 2D-Sidescroller

No, you don't have to fight Anarchy on Mars. In fact, you have to defend Anarchy on Mars.

In the year 2281 - when capitalism was at its climax, spreading war, hatred and poverty throughout the Earth while a small clique of privileged people pulled the strings and lived like kings, when the wealth gap made the Mariana Trench look ridiculous, when the last living animals were those who end up on a kitchen table and the last standing trees were located in the former indian's reservations, after the very last of those committed suicide - a ship was built, designed to start a colony on Mars. It could carry thousands of people, food for a year and devices to built up autarc hydroponic farms in a hostile environment. In the minds of the imperialists a perfect way to forget about wasting a whole planet...

... but after years of training and preparation a group of several thousand people managed to squat the shipyard and take over control of the "NF1"(New Frontiers 1) as well as few dozen fighters. They started their voyage to Mars and after a few skirmishs with some of Earth's patrol ships they managed to land on Mars and start a colony. They built up an anarchistic society free of war, poverty, hatred and racism while slowly and stepwise making the Mars environment more habitable.

...unfortunately, the few left megalomaniac governments on Earth couldn't stand that "a few chaotic slobs" (War Minister Johnson) destroyed their plans and stole their showpiece as well as lots of their equipment and weapons.

...in 2307 you, April, stealthily visited Earth again to meet some friends (who decided to stay and dream of changing the planet to the better) and check out the current situation. Your fear that Earth is going to start a war has become true and now it's up to you to get back to Mars and warn your fellow folks of the easily superior army from Earth.

...now it's time to defend your peaceful way of life

There isn't much action yet, but new screenies and a demo will come soon.

Trivia:

- This is already the third version of the game. I made the first one in VGA with Turbo Pascal back in ~ 2000 and lost it due to formatting my hard disc, and a second one in hi-res in 2006 but the graphic unit I used had some problems and I put the project away again. Now it was time to do something with it again.

But when I upload them to Photobucket they turn crap. Aargh.

I just remembered one thing I wanted to ask for a long time now but always forgot about.

The word "realize" is used for when you're aware of something.... but is it also used for when you, say, bring an idea to life / make it real? So that you can say "I realized my idea and finally made a game!"?

In german you can use the word for both but I was never sure about it in English.

Still haven't watched the movie, but I don't go to cinemas anyway (unless there's a movie I'm really eager to see which usually doesn't happen - ever).

I would've considered watching it in case it would really be all about the terminator action seen in the flashbacks of the first two movies. Too bad that's not the case... really.

Well, I watch it when a DVD is out and see..

Well, this turned out quite different to what I originally had in mind, but who cares. Doesn't have much personality I'm afraid but like some others here I like drawing trees.

You want the character to change the room while he is entering one? This doesn't make sense at all. Room_Load means that the room is loaded and what you write down there happens before the fade-in. Changing the room before the room is loaded could cause some problems, yeah.

What are you trying to achieve?

EDIT: Okay, you use the First_load, which isn't before the fade-in, but still is doesn't make sense.

Yup, Hergé created Tintin and did the drawings, while Uderzo did Asterix (Lucy Luke also). They have totally different styles of art, but became legends for BD lovers.

Yeah, but Goscinny was an important part of the Asterix team. Most of the issues published after his death and written by Uderzo sucked!

Oh, and Lucy Liu as a sidekick of Lucky Luke could be interesting  ;)

In case it resurrects as a (frequency) zombie after Ghost has killed it, I'll kill that zombie! Oh, and in case it comes back as a ghost rather than a zombie then I'm eager to watch a "Ghost" vs. ghost fight! With popcorn of course.

Create a label and then write a line like this whenever the variable changes or just in the rep-ex:

Labelname.Text = String.Format("%d", Variablename);

Just put in the right label- and the variable name.

I don't like the shading of his lower body (the bright line). I'd make it like this, or similar (I added one color I think):

Otherwise I like it, especially the fins look nice.

EDIT: And I'd change the dark shading on the arms too, it looks too angled imo.

I've never had much luck with the very narrow and specialised kind of forums like a philosophy discussion board would be. The best philosophy discussions I've had, have been on general chat forums which happen to house very skilled and learned posters.

"Narrow and specialised" like a philosophy discussion board? It generally is wide-spread, just take a look at LionMonkey's first link (which seems to be a rather interesting forum by the way). There are topics on everything important and also a forum for everything that doesn't fit in the given categories...
