The thing that you're talking about with opening them straight from the browser can also be done by any other torrent client, including uTorrent.

Yeah, that wasn't (necessarily) meant to be an advantage of BitTorrent, just a general point.

(Though you're wrong about the torrent file not being on your HD.  It's there, it's just being stored in a temp directory somewhere depending on your settings.)

True. But I consider it a bit cleaner and less messy when it's temporarily stored and then automatically deleted.

I can't understand why nobody mentioned BitTorrent and that it's even the title of this thread. I use BitTorrent since quite a few years and I'm happy with it.

You don't even have to save the torrents to disk, you can open them directly from the browser and the file will download without having the torrent file on your HD.

The RunDialog function is obsolete. It's called Dialog.Start() - in your case dPhil.Start or whatever the dialog is called.

What exactly is the problem? Who says that every room has to be the same size? If you mean that note when you import a background, ignore it. It just says that the original room's size is different than the one you're importing.

Thank you both. I'll try out what you suggested, GuiAwesome, and let you know if it worked (or if I could get it to work).

GUI Buttons are the only exemption, AFAIK.)

Ah, damn. Well, I forgot that they are indeed buttons since they're part of a character sheet-GUI. They aren't inventory items, that's why I have to use them as buttons. I guess then there's no way around that pop-up GUI... too bad.

I have two objects one on another and I want to make both be clickable at the same time. The sprite of the one in the back sticks out so there shouldn't be a problem with clicking it. But though I've turned perfect-pixel detection on I just can click the one in the front. Both sprites have an alpha-channel, could that cause the problem? Or doesn't the click detection refer to objects?

Of course I could make a GUI pop up and let the player decide which object he wants to click but it would be much nicer without a GUI.

Here they are:

English is my first language, but I still don't know when it's proper to use "i.e.," vs. "e.g.,"
Dx.

Ha, that was one of the questions I always wanted to ask and always forgot to ask. Thanks!

Because that's Latin, not English. "i.e." is short for "id est" which means "that is" and "e.g." is "exempli gratia" which means "for example"

Hm, I always thought it was english and stood for "example given", but in a sense that's what it means  ;).

I had similar problems with a.m. and p.m., since they sounded like "after mid day" and "past mid day" which obviously wouldn't make any sense but wiki told me that these are latin abbreviations too.

Yeah, really beautiful graphics, very well done.

Good luck with the programming.  ;)

Yeah, it's a real-time combat game (like Mortal Kombat) AND two players will have the possibility to fight against each other with one keyboard (as soon as I'll figure out how to rewrite the keyboard movement module so that a 2nd player can be controlled simultaneously  ;)). By the way, it's quite alright to play with the right Ctrl, the hands don't get in the way of each other...

It will be an RPG heavily inspired by the great Amiga classic "Moonstone". Here's a WIP-screenie (we'll replace the dummies as soon as we'll have all the animations and moves done):

By the way, the saving-loading option doesn't work.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that, I do have the same problem.

Quote from: Ascovel on Mon 29/06/2009 12:42:42
It works on my system. Anyone else is having this problem? And what happens exactly when you try using it?

Exactly nothing happens when I click on Save. I doesn't matter if I type something in the savegame listbox, nothing happens when I press save.
#1853
Too bad. Then I guess the only option is to include a feature to let the player define the keys for the moves... or I just don't care since I'm sure the combinations will work on most keyboards..

By the way, I consider it rather stupid / weird that keyboards don't allow certain key combinations. I guess it isn't too difficult to wire all standard and important keys together.
#1854
It's a combination of 3 keys: Right-Ctrl, down arrow and right arrow. Strange thing is, it works for the other side (the same combination, but the left arrow instead of the right.

Also, it very rarely works on the right side too, but it's unuasable that way.

Nihylist, isn't it the very same in german? At least 1-3, I'm not quite sure about 4. I've always been very good in grammar though I don't know anything about grammatical theory.

I've just started and it took me some time to figure out how to open the bag of junk, but overall I like it. It's weird but very original and somehow entertaining. I'll post again to give critics and advice when I've finished the demo.

"Hopefully I won't run into an elven commando. Damn NATURFREUNDE!"

Hahaha, my favorite quote.

It's still weird cause I can't think of any reason why "a few apps" should stop an AGS game from working correctly.
#1858
Trihan, this is really funny actually, cause I thought of starting a thread like this since a few weeks, not because I'm so good in English, but instead because I'm not sure about some words or phrases every now and then and always wanted to ask about it.

But... now I can't think of anything but I'll post next time I have a problem  ;).
#1859
I wasn't sure if that belongs in one of the technical forums, so I post it here.

I'm working on an action-RPG right now which involves a lot of fighting and different moves with different key combinations.

I encountered a problem with one(!) of the combinations which only worked when the character faces west, but not when facing east, so in order to use that move I always have to get my character to the right of the enemy. Well, first I thought this was a scripting error and couldn't find any, but then when I tested my game on another computer (a PC and not a laptop) I could make that move without any problems. I don't have any idea what the problem could be, the right arrow key works fine...

Well, I can't test that now but as far as I remember there was another thing, my game is in debug mode all the time and on my laptop there are only the fps displayed while on the PC there was also the loopcount.

Did anybody ever encountered a similar problem or does anyone know what the problem might be?
