Also, if you haven't tried yet, try running the game in full screen (or, if you already are running it full screened, change it to 'windowed') abd see it it makes a difference.

Ahem:
Quote
If I run the game in full screen, the screen refreshes when I alt+tab, and then it gets stuck in the newly refreshed frame. However, in windowed mode, it never even refreshes.

But it's weird that it worked well and then suddenly stopped working... have you tried to reinstall it?

Well I can admit that I had too much to drink last night. You can tell by this post.

I was able to type okay, but my mind was not there.  :)

Haha, yeah, that for sure wasn't a sober post. I was about to ask how you see a cat in these clouds and if you could upload the pic without the outlines. Hehe, now it's obsolete. But I like cloud shapes too  ;).

You're probably right. It depends on how drunk one is, and Felix definitely was too drunk to ride it. But nevertheless it was unnecessary to search for the keys and wait for the police to drop by once more. But well, after that evening it was just a funny and entertaining memory we had from that experience.

That evening, by the way, it seemed to me that the 2nd police patrol was the same as the 1st one, but I may have been too drunk to evaluate that. That would have been very strange..

I can't possibly be the only person who actually prefers Weird Al's versions of MJ's songs over MJ's songs.

Can I?

No, I'm with you on that one (but that's not unlikely cause I don't like MJ's music at all)..
#1865
Terran, I'm sorry for my comments, they were unnecessary. I was a bit drunk last night, ahem. And of course it doesn't matter if you know someone personally...

RIP whoever dies, so Michael included.

Mr. Matti, the reason people care is because his music affected them.  You don't have to know someone personally to appreciate them and miss their positive contributions.  That's not to say Jackson should be canonized, but people who remember who he used to be will miss him.

Yeah, I admit I would miss people who I don't know personally too ... but not MJ.

WHO CARES?

I do care. Michael jackson's music and dance moves were some kind of inspiration for my whil making any kind of work. I don't care about to many famous people.

Okay, I guess I don't wanna see you dance then...

It's God damn Michael Jackson he's he's Michael Jackson. What i'm trying to say is it's Michael Jackson. I think people would care mr no care. Also it's damn god damn Michael Jackson for damns sake I thought he was invincible.

Calm down Obi, it's not like Lionel Richie has died or something that important has happened...

Hm, I tought this was some kind of fraud. My friend talked about this the whole evening and I thought this was just nonsense, a story to keep everyone busy.. or something..

Well... all I have to say is... WHO CARES?

Do any of you know MJ personally. If so - and if it's a good relationship (haha) - than okay.... too bad. If not... then WHO TF CARES??

If there's one thing I hate then it's VIP-newz! F%$k off.

All I have heard so far is that he was rushed to a hospital because of cardiac arrest. I hope he hasn't died, he was one of my idols when i was growing up and still love his music.

I'm so stunned right now, I really don't know what to say. Usually when celebrities die, I don't give a rats ass, but this time I feel like a new page has been turned in the book of history, somehow...

Hm.. are you guys okay?  ... it seems you've some kinda problem with idolizing random people and with mourning too... no offense.

He, I second every word that ProgZ just posted. Exactly my thoughts.

Bah, North Korea attacking anyone is as unrealistic as the Iran attacking Israel. Both countries would be wiped out immediately.

It's just that the Korean leaders feel provoked by the nearby manoevers of the USA/South Korea fleet.

I doubt anything will change after that statement. Although I consider it rather stupid of them to threaten anyone instead of doing some diplomatic stuff to improve the international relations and perhaps get some food into their country.

To be honest just about every night is a drunken story night for me, but that's cos I'm a goddamn alcoholic!

Same goes for me   ::).

I guess I've plenty of weird, funny and whatever drunken stories, but I'll need to sort out the boring 90 % first to get to the more interesting ones. I'll post soon, can't think of the best ones (or those I'm willing to tell) right now.

[EDIT:]

Okay, here's I think the silliest and craziest drunken story I've had so far. It's quite a while ago, I went to school back then. Must have been in 2003 or so, but I still can remember most of the stuff that happened that night, it's just too hilarious to forget.

There was a nice Chillout Party with many people in the park near our school. Later at night only me and a friend (Felix) were left, but we weren't in the mood to go home yet. So we decided to get a sixpack of beer and a sparkling wine from the nearby gasstation. Felix already was so drunk that he had troubles to keep his balance (and once fell on the floor right in front of the stations nightdesk), so I had to do the buying.

Then we went back to the park and drank the beer and the   sparkling wine. Since we still haven't had enough (I don't know why) we went to a bar next to our school. We each drank one beer there and then were more or less thrown out of the bar due to Felix drunken behavior (I managed to act like I wasn't TOO drunk).

Then we had the stupid idea to 'visit' our school at night and climbed the fence to the schoolyard which was right in front of the bar. In there we trembled around, pissed at the trees and talked nonsense. When suddenly a light was turned on in the stairwell, we climbed back to the street.

Suddenly a policecar came by, some cops dropped out and we had to kneel on the floor with our hands on our backs. I still remember that I felt like in a stupid cop movie, I was never forced to kneel down like that and it was especially odd since we didn't really do anything harmful. Well, we had to give them our names, adress and stuff, they said that the bar owner told them we were climbing into the school and so on... then they left.

Afterwards we decided to go home, but Felix couldn't find the keys for his bicycle, so we searched around on the floor. We weren't exactly quiet while doing this due to the drunkeness and because we stepped on the splinters of glass of one of our beers that fell on the floor before we went to the bar. Ah well, we searched there quite a time and suddenly - The cops came AGAIN. And - that was the most hilarious thing - we went trough the exact same procedure as last time. We kneeled down, gave away our particulars and they told us that the bar owner called them because we were too loud.

Okay, after they left we finally went home though Felix didn't find his keys. For me it was the end of that evening, but not for him. He took a taxi cause otherwise he would have had to walk quite a while. He vomited in the car and when the cab arrived at his house, he realized that he didn't have enough money to pay the driver. Well, the driver waited while Felix tried to get money from home. First off, Felix almost didn't manage to open the door to the house and then he had much more trouble with opening the door to his flat. That's why - surprise surprise - his parents thought there was a thieve trying to open the door and called the police. Then it was a bit chaotic, his parents realized that it was just him, everything was fine and Felix finally remembered that the taxi driver was still waiting and he paid him (or his parents did).

Hehe, that really was one of the craziest drunken experience I had in life. Funny thing is - Felix later said that his keys were in his pocket or his wallet or something, so the second police action and the taxi trip haven't been necessary at all.

Have you heard of Tom Morello's new group? I guess it's the same rap/rock fusion, just like Rage.

Haven't heard of it yet but I'm curious.

saw them in '96 at the Big Day Out festival in Sydney was a big fan then, Killing in the name was and prob still is my favourite song of theirs.

Ha, yeah, as far as I remember, Killing in the name was the song that caught my interest in Rage back then..

I played the demo today and I liked it. I think the clean graphics work very well, so go good luck with further progress.

There was just one thing that really bothered me: The main character is MUCH too slow, it's really annoying over the time, especially when you wanna go back some screens to a place where you've already been. Please make him either move faster or include a feature to immediately change a room without having to walk all the way through it.

Sieht gut aus  ;), but the background pictures are way too blurry, at least the beach background (especially with all the .jpg-artefacts and such..).
#1877
Thanks, ProgZ for all that info.

The point is that I am going for a rather cartoony look without too much detail (especially regarding the shading*) and that I don't even know if I'm ever going to use the large versions of the sprites. I might only use the ~200 px high sprites seen in my first post.

* I followed my rule to give skin and clothes only two colors, one "normal color" and one for the shading though I am making exceptions like the highlight on the nose.

Also, I can't help but concentrating more on how aesthetically appealing it looks rather than how realistic it is. That's a reason why I won't include the pupils, cause I really like those black eyes, though you're absolutely right about them making the face more human.

But just to let you know, even if I don't take most of the points into account it's always good to learn about that stuff (anatomy, shading etc.) and it is definitely helpful in general, though I might ignore it for certain sprites (like these). So thanks anyway.

Well, I'll definitely change the hair because you're right about the perspective issue with the ponytail in the 3/4 view.

It's a shame they stopped after 2000, we could have really used them during the Bush years!

Yeah, I can imagine that. Well, at least they made a cool video for "Testify" about the election in 99  with Bush and Gore being a doubled alien from outer space. And they already predicted an oil war coming. It's definitely one my favorite music videos ever.

I just thought the name was awesome.

That's quite funny actually. I like the name too, but as a German I always thought: "Mh, must sound rather odd for English people, if not a bit silly." Glad to hear you like the name too.

@monkey: I think I remember you being more of a Hardcore/Metalfan or something in that direction. If so, the first two albums are the ones most suitable for you. The selftitled and "Evil Empire" that is.

Thanks for all the work and input, guys. There were some good points though I noticed some of them too.

Well, I really didn't want to significantly change the sideview cause I'm happy with it as it is, but I altered the front view in a way that it fits the other one I think. I reshaped the whole face a bit, made the eyebrows more relaxed, made the hair a bit less "glued" and made the curve rounder LESS round, adjusted the collar bones and made the shading color darker..

Also, since I didn't want to make a line for the nose (cause it always looked crappy) I made a brighter color for the noses shading.

Ah, and I left the mouthes just as I drawed them instead of using the "simplify"-tool in Illustrator, which makes the lines smoother. Same goes for the ears.

All that is left is to slightly change the hair of the sideview.

EDIT:
Something about the clothes bothered me too, so I changed the pullover (to make her look less tubby in the front view), highered the knees and put the pockets more to the side of the pants. I think I can leave it as it is now.

Critics' Lounge / One sprite, two perspectives
Thu 18/06/2009 18:19:26
Hey there.

I tried to make a front view to an existing semi-sideview. Altogether I'm happy with it, but I have some issues with the face, they don't really look alike. I don't know if it's the (missing) nose, the eyes or eye brows or whatever. I'm just not quite happy with it. I tried to make a black line for the nose but that looked rather odd.

Any suggestions and critics are welcomed.
