I like the colors and the rounded buttons.

.. but do you really think it's necessary to have the two mouse button functions declared at the top of the screen while you are playing? Doesn't make sense to me.

Well, green in general isn't too bad. The color of the chairs for example is okay. It's just the tone of that green color on the wall. It's too bright and annoying. Nevertheless I would try to give the walls a bright brown or a yellow color, just play around a bit and see what fits best.
#2283
PLEASE change the tone of that green wallcolor, it's horrible in my opinion. And giving both walls different tones would be cool too, as mentioned before.

As for the font, I don't know, is the width of the letters too much of an issue? I'll look around for better, not-as-wide fonts for dialog/narration text.

Personally I don't have a problem with that font at all. In fact, I really like it since it's both readable and stylish. Yes, the letters are a bit wide but I wouldn't call that an issue.

As for the chapter-thingy on the right:

You could move "By the sword" up and make "Chapter 1: A good Ship" to ONE line and put it beneath the title. Now it looks a bit messy.

Man, I really thought somebody had created a game by the name of "Uninstall The Orical".

Haha, me too..

The name rhymes, looks good and promises at least 15 minutes of excessive nerd adventure game trash.

What a shame.

Indeed!

The first thing that came to my mind was that the guy has a sharp black outline and everything else doesn't.

I would either give everything that outline or make the characters outline similar to the colors of his clothes/hair/skin. I'd prefer giving everything a black outline I think..

..and when you changed "GuiButton" to the actual name of the Button (which is neccessary I think), did you put a "g" before the name?
#2288
In the global header you wrote Guibutton and in the rep-ex you wrote GuiButton. Could that be the problem?

Sorry, forget it.

the line going to inventory just bugs me

Yeah, me too.

Ideally the purpose of each key press will be explained when it is required.

I don't really like it that way, especially since I guess not every key press is required.

I understand what everything does, but it's a lot to keep in my head, I need to know what it does in-game and why I'll need to do it.

Well, as I've said I'm sure not every key that has a function actually needs to be pressed in the game. But it's nice to have many keyfunctions. So for those who prefer using the keyboard rather than using the mouse too much, it's a very useful image for knowing what can be pressed for which result... and those who prefer using the mouse could just look up some important or practical keyfunctions like load/save etc...

I think it's not too confusing but practical. Even the colors are okay, It's just the blue color that doesn't really fit the brown/yellow background.

Hahahah....considering this is Zero-G space, I'm envisioning magnetic butt-clencher chairs, and a computerised hand-writing recognition enabled desk-surface. Funny how many ideas you can model around the environment...

Well, it's quite unlikely that he's gonna make a zero-gravity station. Of course there must be some sort of artificial gravity. Otherwise any walkcycle would be senseless and the characters/objects had to be flying around all the time. But that's not the case here since the given characters and objects are STANDING..

So why not make a desk?

One more question, if the intro room are not first made, can I still make them to come first when the game starts?  :-[

Of course, the player can start in any room. Just change the number..
#2292
The room is huge but empty. Especially as a quarter on a ship that's very unrealistic. I would add a desk and a chair, that would be a logical part of the room and make it less empty. It could stand in the foreground, perhaps a bit to the right.

But after everything is played and he tryes to change the room I get an error and it closes. What did I done wrong here?

What error message do you get?

Quote from: Random on Fri 05/09/2008 10:00:25
Also I would like to know how to make an intro from varius rooms. So that when the game starts first comes one room (black with writing on it) then when I click another one (like the one before) and then after that to put me actualy in the first room of the game?

Just make room-sized hotspots in the intro rooms and if they're clicked the player changes the room.
#2294
Objects are related to the rooms they're in so you can only modify them in the room's script..
#2295
Could you upload a screenshot, that might help understanding the problem. It really sounds odd.

Code: ags

if (GetLocationType(mouse.x,mouse.y) == eLocationCharacter) {
    mouse.Mode = eModeTalk;
}
if (GetLocationType(mouse.x,mouse.y) == eLocationNothing) {
    mouse.Mode = eModeWalkTo;
}
else {
    mouse.Mode = eModeInteract;
}

Edit: Ah well, this changes the mousemode but you want to have only one.. but now you know how to locate the clicked area.

Take a look here, this should help.

Uh, it's a long story I guess.

It all began years ago when lemons were the sweetest fruits available and onions were natural accessoires for a gentleman's belt. The internet was almost unknown back then. The few existing computers did weight several tons, had around 2 Megabyte RAM and cost around ten thousand dollars.

Well, I met a nice american WWII veteran who collaborated with and fought for the soviets. His friend, a soviet renegade who fought among the americans to destroy communism once and for all gave me a bomb I should use to destroy the only 'personal' computer available at that time. It was located in a factory where coal was made out of babies, just there to check if the kiddies were worth the amount of coal produced and to locate new day-care centers for new resources. Some hippies protested against that kind of industry. One of them was a nice guy who told me how to use PCs and what can be done with them. Well, he gave me a little bug in a box which was his most beloved pet, really. He said I should place the bug on the computer and let him do his work. The point was that the bug had a virus that would infect the PC. I considered that a silly rumor, but since I wanted to use neither the bomb of the american soviet nor the magic lotion this little fairy (I didn't told you about yet) gave me I agreed to take the little bug with me.

After I used needle on door_lock I was able to get inside the factory and get to the PC. It was a damn huge thingy with an even larger sign on it: M.A.T.T.I. I figured out that the only meaning could be: "Miscellaneous Accessoires To Tyrannize Infants".

I thought that it would be funny to use that as a nickname in the future when PCs are cheaper, smaller and have access to the internet. Ah, and I lost the bug fighting with employees who suddenly appeared and ran away without doing anything against the factory. Ah, well, whatever..

No, seriously, Matti is just my 2nd name.. ahem..

It's.... an elephant! Nice present. Wasn't easy to unwrap though..

I've never played a game of the Cosmos Quest series, but as AGA said, if there are only a few objects it's okay to leave it. But personally I always prefer hotspot labels. It's just so comfortable and clear then.

Beginners' Technical Questions / Re: cfg Files
Tue 12/08/2008 22:25:01
Er.... .cfg files are config-files which are simple TEXT-files. You can open them in any editor. But the games themselves should be .exe files. The config files just store infos for the game like resolution, colors etc.
