Anybody been to one of their shows throughout the UK or Ireland yet?

I went to see them yesterday in Brighton. It was totally awesome.

Are all these threads about religion and racism and so on and so forth... are they REALLY a bad thing? They degenerate into name-calling and abuse every single time. But is  this bad? It's exactly what happens in real life, right? You start a conversation with a group of 40 people about religion, and you're all going to have a different opinion, and you're going to start annoying each other and by then you've got a fully fledged argument on your hands. Massive arguments about things like religion aren't restricted to this forum.

So is it actually a bad thing that it happens? SkyFire1 for instance, made an extremely racist remark, and claims he's not racist and did not mean for it to be racist. All that happened was that he got flamed a bit on an internet forum. As a result, he won't get his teeth kicked in when he says that to someone in real life.

On the upside, people like ManicMatt... a good, friendly person... really overreacted to the use of the word "paki", which nobody else found as offensive as him. This resulted in borderline flaming of Matt for being oversensitive. Clearly he didn't mean to offend anyone... quite the opposite. But he overreacted and people have challenged his opinion on the matter and, probably he won't overreact like that if people are having that discussion in real life. Unless they ARE actually being racist in which case... go ahead and sock 'em, Matt :P.

Everybody always says that its terrible the way those threads degenerate... I think it has to be expected in a forum with such a diverse userbase. And I don't think it's such a terrible thing really... it's an angry, heated debate but, unlike real life, nobody is at risk of getting hurt... only banned (Phfshhyeh right).

I personally find these arguments quite enthralling, to see so many very very DIFFERENT opinions and DIFFERENT reactions, and I learn a lot about people from them.

Discuss, and then degenerate into madness and chaos and threats and name-calling so that my job is done...

My boyfriend is having trouble with his shuttle PC... something to do with it not detecting the hard drive. Anyway, there's this irritating boot-up splash screen... they call them quickboot screens or somethign I think... and basically all it does it cover up all the information we need to see to work out what the problem is!!

(you know that... verifying DMI pool data.... all that stuff...)

It covers it up with an annoying splash screen that just says 'XPC'...

How do I turn this screen off or remove it completely so I can see that information? I've checked all the user manuals and documentation that came with the shuttle but there's no mention of it....

As a last resort, I thought perhaps you clever people on the AGS forums, always so clever and handsome... might be able to help.

I have a erm... this PC:

Shuttle XPC SN95G5V3 (Barebone)

And the microphone does not work. No matter which one, how I set it up, it just fails to work. My boyfriend had the same shuttle a while ago (different machine but same model) and couldn't get his microphone to work either. APPARENTLY, it has something to do with drivers for the soundcard...

Anybody have a similar experience and know how to fix it? This kind of thing is a bit beyond me... :)

I really wanted to buy it for my boyfriend for his birthday, but apparently they've just sold out... and won't be making any more collectors editions...

I will totally pay £100 for a collectors edition right now. Gief Gief!

I finished up my contract at a games company recently. I got paid a salary and overtime was therefore not paid... I worked it out and basically, including overtime etc, what I earned per hour was...

Slightly less that £3 per hour....

...However, because I had no life and spent my entire life doing overtime, I actually have more money than if I got paid less than that... but that's not the point...

I guess my hard work was paid off because I got offered a junior design position. But still, less than £3 an hour is pretty shocking...

...Anybody else here work in the Games industry? Any tales of woe to share?

This thread was started on another forum I frequent and a surprising number of people actually worked in the games industry, from programmers to QA to PR and all that.

So, who here works in the (real) games industry?

Okay here's the thing.

I want a beautiful Dell 24'' monitor. That's my primary target. I love big monitors the same way as some people love... drugs. If I could crush 24'' monitors up and snort them like cocaine, I would.

Sadly, I do not actually have a PC at the moment and will need to buy one in order to use my delicious 24'' monitor (which I haven't actually bought yet, either).

What kind of PC/graphics card am I going to need to run games at full res and stuff? Is it going to be terribly expensive?

Any advice?

Hi hi,

I lost a lot of stuff on my harddrive that I want to get back. One of the things I really want to get back is the music for Beyond Reality. Is there some way of erm... opening the erm... finished game so I can get my midis back? If this makes sense...?

Petteri, do you have any of the midis that you could upload for me, too?

Is there a doctor on the forum!?

One of my friends had a bad family life and the way she used to deal with it was through bulemia. Whenever she got upset, she would make herself sick and refuse to eat. Her weight fluctuated a lot, she'd make herself miserable and obsess about food... but it wasn't to do with her weight. She didn't feel fat... she did it simply to punish herself for some reason. Even she doesn't know why she did it. She just did. It made her feel better to make herself sick, whenever something bad happened.

Anyway after leaving home/getting a boyfriend/etc she got a bit better and settled down a bit, and for a few years she's been really doing good... except for recently. She's been having some problems with her long-term boyfriend... she's too scared to confront him about some issues in case he leaves her, so she's starting to drift back to her old ways of not eating/making herself sick, instead of dealing with the problems she has. I'm worried, I don't know what to do... Is this problem Bulemia? It's not related to weight, that much I know... I don't even know where to start looking for information on it... anybody got any clues?

I'm a bit confused about the ID requirements between Ireland and the UK. Typically you would just have a passport and that's it... here's my problem.

None of my brothers or sisters, or my mother, have passports. They are Irish, but have never gone abroad. Now, I want them to come visit me in England before the end of summer... they could quite easily apply for passports, but they take many weeks to arrive and also it would cost quite a lot of money. Also I really don't trust my mother to be organized enough to apply for 6 passports without messing everything up.

So here's my question.

Is it possible for my mother to travel from Ireland to the UK and back, using her Driving License as photo ID? Easyjet says that you need a valid form of photo ID, eg driving license, to check in... but I have never seen ANYbody use anything other than a passport, and I'd hardly want my mother to turn up and be told, "Oh, you can use it to check in, but you need a passport to board the plane" or something rubbish like that.

Also, is it true that children under 16, if accompanied by an adult, do not need photo ID when travelling to/from Ireland and the UK?

Also, are passports required for ferries, and are they required for coaches? (Ireland - England coaches...)

Any information is appreciated :)

It would make things SO much easier if this were all true...

General Discussion / My Knee Locked!
Sat 17/06/2006 12:57:48
This morning I was lying in bed, and I was half asleep... then I moved my leg up. You know, just for comfort, drew my knee up like I've done a thousand times before.

Well my knee didn't like that. It locked. I was like, Huh?

It's just a cramp in my knee, I told myself, it will go away.

So I lay like that for about 20 minutes because I couldn't actually move. If I move my knee at all it would hurt so badly, quite besides the fact I was incapable of bending it at all. It had completely seized up!

I muttered something to my boyfriend about calling an ambulance maybe if I couldn't move by the end of the day. He said, "Nah, it'll be fine" and pushed the other leg down, believing it to be the stuck leg. I warned him, "If you fucking TOUCH my other leg I will fucking KILL you, AND my kneecap will pop off"

"oh" he said.

Eventually I tried sitting up my pushing myself with my arms, but this send a weird pain shooting through my spine and to my knee. I have no idea what that was about. But then I was able to move my knee sufficiently enough to roll over and, tired as it was 6am, I decided to fall asleep and maybe go to a doctor later when I could be bothered.

When I woke up again it seemed fine, I was able to move it, but now the muscles around that leg seem tight, and also the knee feels alittle bit weak if that makes sense. What the hell happened? I really don't want it to happen again... it was scary as hell.

When I was a kid, my favourite story was on this audio tape... I can't remember what it was called, who it was by.. but maybe you guys can help me identify it.

The story is basically that some kid goes home from school early because he has a secret to tell his mother. On the way he takes a shortcut through some woods he knows. But three terrible giants catch him and they're probably going to eat them, but he yells that he has the chicken pox so they drop him and he runs all the way home...

If I remember correctly, whoever was reading the book ended it with something like, "Snick Snack Snover, that story's over!"

Any ideas what it could have been?

I've got the following information:

Where she was born (may still reside there)
When she was born
Her name
Her Mother's name
Her son's name
Her age

Once, she contacted us on AIM... unfortunately, my Dad scared her away by being a wee bit of the prick that he is :)   (this is why she's never met her father)

So I know she uses the internet, yet I haven't been able to find any information about her... I've checked FriendsReunited, Genesreunited, Myspace, Livejournal... googled extensively... also ICQ... erm... probably other stuff..

I can't think of what else to do. There must have been ways to find people before the internet. Or other ways of finding people on the internet. Does anyone have any ideas?

PS I can't get any more information on account of not having spoken to my father in a very long time :) even if I did he wouldn't give me any because he's a psychotic.

General Discussion / I want to play an MMO
Thu 23/03/2006 11:10:51
But I don't know which one to play. I don't really want to play WOW because all my friends are level 30 million billion and know everything about the game including things that not even god himself knows, probably. Maybe. And all my friends will laugh at me because I'm a massive n00b.

What are you guys playing, and why, teh etc.
