I don't know. I mean, it worked quite nicely in Broken Sword: That One For The Gameboy Advance. Although I think possibly that may have been 16 directions... No, then again, maybe it was only 8.

Yeah, I am pretty sure it was 8.

I think it's definitely worth a try. If I recall, you could only WALK in Broken Sword. However, I think the interface worked quite nicely, apart from the sluggish walk.

What I really need, apart from the links you guys gave, is somebody to do this for me. For various reasons, including that I am lazy and can't program. I know it's an awful lot to ask of a person but you do get the added benefit of knowing that you are doing this for the good of mankind, and I am only exaggerating a little.

"Back when I got started, which sounds like ancient history, back then the demographics of people who were into computer games, was totally different, in my opinion, then they are today. Back then, computers were more expensive, which made them more exclusive to people who were maybe at a certain income level, or education level. So the people that played computer games 15 years ago were that type of person. They probably didn't watch television as much, and the instant gratification era hadn't quite grown the way it has lately. I think in the last 5 or 6 years, the demographics have really changed, now this is my opinion, because computers are less expensive so more people can afford them. More "average" people now feel they should own one."

Just so everybody knows, I was not banned, per se, but instead, the victim of a cruel hoax!!!
#1424
Now I am banned.

I don't even recall doing anything.

I don't even recall being in there in the first place to do anything.

What is this about, huh??? HUH?! Do you want to laugh at me behind my back? Is that it??!

I hope you are all having fun in there, while I'm out here in the freezing cold because get this; I don't care. You could all be dead for all I know. And I wish I knew. Because you probably are. And man, would I laugh!

Jesus.

This happened sort of with my new computer. It worked fine for a few weeks, but slowly things were corrupting. I would get error messages for no reason, and then one day it just completely locked me out so I had to format C drive and reinstall windows. This happened about five times before I was diagnosed with a faulty Hard Drive and got a new one. Hey presto problem solved.

Er, so maybe something is wrong with one of those there parts in that there pc.

But...every other server in the existence of mankind and servers works fine.

!

I'm gonna be stuck here for the next few days so it would be handy if I could figure this out.... okay here is the thing. I can't connect to Quakenet on this DAMN DAMN DAMN computer.

It gives this error:

Closing Link: dfgsdfgsd by blueyonder2.uk.quakenet.org (USER: Bad username)

This is no matter WHAT my user name is. And I can connect to every other server just fine.

Is Quakenet down or something? Or is it this damn computer!?

I'm in the baby-steps of a new project, and I have the story and everything planned. Now what I'm working on, is how I can innovate with this game.

I enjoyed the Grim Fandango control method, as I thought it allowed a deeper view of the world, and more interactivity.

Now I'm not gonna pretend or anything. I can't program to save my life. Hell, I couldn't program to save somebody elses life. So I need somebody who is good at programming to let me boss them around a bit help me with this one. If it's any good perhaps it could be released as a template.

In case you're some kind of weird freak, and haven't played Grim Fandango.... it's a keyboard control system. I'm not sure if it would work too well with AGS but you never know. We could end up loving it and wondering what we did in life before, when we had no GF-style control system.

I'm thinking this, so far... you can walk up, down, left, right, up-right, up-left, down-right, down-left. By pressing the shift key and holding a directional key(s) you can run in that direction. Yes, it means animating an extra couple animations for the main playable character, but hey. So what?

Anybody wanna help with this? Or to word it slightly more accurately, anybody want to do this entire template for me? But not just me. No no. For the very AGS community.

EDIT: Something else about this control method is that it would have to be directly related to the GUI, as you wouldn't just be able to click "USE INV1 ON OBJECT1", but rather would have to say, press... hm, for instance, Z to bring up the inventory, CTRL/ALT to shift through items and ENTER to select one for the character to hold until he/she presses ENTER again to use it.

And instead of Look At/Walk To/ETC buttons would have to be used, IE ENTER for use, L for look at, or whatever.

See, it sounds complicated. To make, it would be hell. To use, it'd probably be really cool.

Hmmmmm..

What do you use to model stuff?

And can you model.... characters?

QuoteDidn't she stalk him, kidnap him and try to make him her bride?

No no, that wasn't Ron Gilbert. That was an insanely handsome individual known as 'Tim Schafer'.

She suspended Ron Gilbert over the side of a building and shook him until the Secret of Monkey Island, and that ending, fell out.

But they never did.

They never did.

#1432
Wait wait wait. Ignac 1 was released?!
#1433
They are pretty simple alright. Platform games, too, are quite simple.

I think that Keyboard Controls tend to complicate things, but then they can also add an element of control that isn't there with the mouse.

Okay...

I didn't know about this SCI thing and I'll be checking it out since this thread.

On the other hand, it's a little unwise to tell an AGS community that SCI is BETTER than AGS. They both have their strong points. And the points you brought in favour of SCI were pretty dumb. I mean, "You know the way people say it locks up WELL IT DOESN'T!" being the first thing that caught my notice... I mean, did it not occur to that not everybody has the same computer, running at the same speed, with the same abilities.

Also, "Chris Jones hasn't even come up with a tool to check for updates" is a pretty sad point in favour of SCI, because as Dragonrose pointed out, there IS a mailing list, and whether or not there IS a update-check, this does not denote to the quality of the final program.

Perhaps you should have taken a more, "Hey guys, this is neat too!" stance rather than comparing them, on an AGS forum especially.

But I'll check it out anyway, because it sounds like there are a few interesting features alright. I have to say that one of the major plus' of AGS is that there is such a huge and tight-knit community, that is readily available to give help to newbs and such.

Anyhoo.

Maybe he didn't get it because he's foreign :) They had to rewrite a lot of the Monkey Island 1 Insult Sword fighting thingies, because they didn't translate well, you know.
#1436
But she does. Do you know she has a restraining order that says she must not stray within 1000 metres of Ron Gilbert?

I mean, I know we all want to know what was up with that ending, but...

WHO TO AVOID:
Pumaman. Pumaman goes around trying to get addresses off small children and old people so that he can send them Skunk Juice in the mail.

Yufster. Yufster goes around trying to get addresses off game designers so she can send them useless leprechauns that other various assorted items she has no use for.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS:
We recommend you visit Lili's house. Her little sister is playing Pop Idol, and there are plenty of popular UK pop songs being sung out of tune over there.

PLACES TO EAT:
DGMacphee constantly has a spray of spit mixed with biscuit crumbs coming from his mouth.

Psychonauts!

Even the word is sending chills up my spine! Psychonauts. Wow! It's gonna be so awesome. I'm gonna cry, right now, in fact.

Gosh, give me a second to pull myself together.

But in the AGS scene, I guess I am looking forward to,

Leitors Edge
Buccaneer II
Pleughburg: The Asylum
Indiana Jones: Fountain of Youth

And the moment I choose what font to use for the design document of a TOP SECRET NEW PROJECT.

Oh and er... Jon Stickman.

While we're on the subject of final fantasy...

Final Fantasy 10?! What the!?

Man, what happened to you guys? You could have done so well. We could have been best friends. But you had to go and fuck up again, baby. Why do you always make me gotta hit you!?
#1440
Okay. Here goes. In no particular order (Except Indiana Jones being number 1)

1. Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) I mean COME ON.
2. James Bond (Timothy Dalton) But specifically the Timothy Dalton Bond.
3. Michael Collins (Liam Neeson)
4. George Bailey (from It's a Wonderful Life)
5. That German Bad Guy from Die Hard III, played by Jeremy Irons.. I found him a lot more convincing than many bad guys.
6. Marty McFly (Back to the Future, Michael J. Fox) Kick ass!
7. Peter Pan (Whoever the little kid who plays him in the new one is, he rocks!)
8. Zidler from Moulin Rouge
9. Flik from A Bugs Life
10. The Entire Cast of A Bugs Life.
