Hey m0ds... could I enter the BR theme? Or do you have to make a tune specifically for the competition? Because, you know I didn't see this here til now, and I don't feel like thinking of another tune.

I mean, I did make it myself, so does it qualify?

I really am having problems with the idiotic scripting. At the moment, I'm weighed down with work/projects/musical. I have to have two book reports (haven't even started reading the two books), a Home Ec. Interior Design Project, Religion Project, some other project... in by the end of September, and I also have to work on the School Musical which is held at the end of September I think... I play a cast character so I'm in for all rehearsals . Then I have work on the weekends because I need money for the school tour.... so I'm completely all busied up, plus 20 hours travelling every week. It would be okay if I could script, but this means that I don't have enough time to sit down and actually LEARN how to script. You know what I mean?

But the demo will be finished on Sunday. It won't be the smoothest demo, but... it will give you some idea.

Also, there are a few midis from the game and... the OTHER, SECRETER game, on the main page... just scroll past the nonsensical rambling to find them.

I thought this belonged in the technical rather than beginners forum, since it's probably gonna be a hella scripting. Anyway, here's the problem.

I can do a lot of stuff with AGS, and cutscenes involving talking/walking/etc.,. Here's the problem: Programming isn't my forte, so I really need somebody to really help me with this one. You can catch me on AIM as YufsterChan, or MSN as Yufster@Hotmail.com

PROBLEM:
Okay, the character has to complete four small tasks, which are, in no particular order:

1.sabotage something
2.sabotage something else
3. find an item
4. announce that he's ready to compete in the race

Sounds a muddle but I don't want to give everything away. Anyway, there's a sack race, and all the three contestants need to jump together, at the same time, across the screen. Halfway across I need to run animations of the other two contestants falling over and the main character jumping on ahead gleefully.

I don't know how to run the animation of the characters falling over in mid-run (I have the animation complete, but when I tried to run it I suddenly realised that the character would just keep moving, with this amusing gait that I like to call "Slaptooth") Anyway, I figure I must not know something. Also, how do I make the dialogue option (I'm ready to race) available AFTER he's completed all THREE tasks?

SO.....

1. How do I run the animation of the characters falling over in mid-run
2 .How do I make the dialogue option to run this cutscene only available AFTER the three tasks are completed?


As a seperate question, how do I run a script from within a dialogue? It's driving me insane. I tried to figure it out from the demo game but it confused me even more.

Also, the bot is ridiculous, entire portions of chat are dedicated to that thing. An entire flow of conversation could be devoted to making him say something vaguely amusing for the 100th. Get Dr Sbaitso, people, he's an even bigger smart ass AND he has a voice.

I mean, look at porn stars. There are a hell lot more porn stars than the amount of people in that parade. But I mean, 50 people out of... millions, don't represent Gays, just like 50 porn stars out of millions of people, don't represent mankind.

Take Frankie Howard for instance. He was gay but he didn't tell anyone or go out broadcasting it with a flag. So no one cared.

Why shouldn't he tell people? More likely he was ashamed to be gay because of the negative views held by some people. Which is pretty awful to have to feel that way. Saying that I don't actually know of him, so I could be wrong, but I do nonetheless know people who are ashamed to admit they're gay.

They don't go on about it any more than straights go on about being straight. I mean when you're a guy sitting with a bunch of guys, talking about a girl, it's one thing. When you're a bunch of guys and one of you starts talking about another guy, it seems as though that's different?

I mean what, do gay guys come up to you on the street and tell you they're gay? And then give you a speech on heterosexuality? Gays don't "bother" anybody, and they do get on with life.

What get's me is all these fundamentalist christians who condemn gays (they have a long, long list of condemned stuff, actually), and don't have much of a reason other than "In the BIBLE, it says THIS THAT AND THE OTHER."

I met a guy like that online, and he actually supported, SUPPORTED gay bashing. This guy (Who was straight) came online, and was pretty mad because a bunch of his friends, some of whom were gay, got beaten up because they were in the 'wrong side' of the town, and gay. So this wonderful FC puts in his two cents worth: "I can understand and sympathise with the gay bashers, I can see how they are angry with the gays"

WTF?!?? How do you sympathise with a group of guys that beat on people because of sexual preference!??? What reason do they have to be angry with people they've never even been in contact with before?! Unfortunately I thought it was a once off, but  I've since met bunches of FC's with the same beliefs. I mean, does this anger anybody else besides me?

Being Athiest, I also get loads of "Conversions" tried on me. Usually by FC's.  And they'll happily tell you that you're going to hell. That they can say an innocent man/woman can go to hell for being gay is absolutely insane. It's not holy at all. Even though I don't believe in Hell OR heaven

But, my point is, I think at the moment gays aren't viewed as equals in society and it's madness. There's the whole "Gay bishop" 'Scandal'... I mean, this guy is perfectly nice and open about his sexuality, how is it going to stop him being a perfectly good priest? Jesus ¬_¬
And there was another thing about Gays being given the right to marry... loads of people were outraged. WHY?!?  

At the moment gays aren't being treated very fairly, and it isn't right. And while they're giving gay people equal rights, they should review this bullshit about girls being made to wear skirts in catholic schools, too.

EDIT 3: I think it's probably a faulty gene thing, seeing as it actually seems to run in some families stronger than other families. That said, I don't see that it could be seen as a personality fault or mental illness. I've actually met people who view it as such, which I think is completely wrong and unjustified. Mostly, they are fundamentalist christians. Whom I generally disagree with on everything.

It's odd, because you would assume natural selection would have ruled out that particular faulty gene, if that was the case, over thousands of years.

RON = Reality On the Norm... it's sort of like... ANYBODY here can make a RON game, and you download the graphics and character sprites and music and make a game out of it... the RON games are brilliant

I actually like the idea of using watercolour/pencil sketch type backgrounds for this game. I think it's quite good for setting the mood. There was some movie with Gregory Peck in it, they got an Abstract... Dali? To design the dream sequences. As the character descends into madness you could have the paintings get more and more abstract

I'll look forward to playing this, it seems refreshing and new
