Back on topic... once, a black woman was found murdered near our house. The police came around to question us and our neighbours, and they kept referring to the victim as a "coloured" person... when my mother said, "black woman" at one point, the police corrected her and said, "ahem, coloured lady".

Erm... I mean, besides the fact there's nothing wrong with saying "black woman"... isn't "coloured" actually kinda an unpleasant term to use?

Okay we got it working in the end... it had nothing to do with the harddrive, but something in the motherboard was erm... screwed.

But I'm still really annoyed at the pointless boot logo screen. TAB didn't work either. I'll keep trying to remove it and let you guys know how it goes Thanks for all the help!

Nope, we searched the BIOS setup and couldn't find it, much to our frustration... that's the first place we looked... and the only place we CAN look, judging by the current state of the PC...

My boyfriend is having trouble with his shuttle PC... something to do with it not detecting the hard drive. Anyway, there's this irritating boot-up splash screen... they call them quickboot screens or somethign I think... and basically all it does it cover up all the information we need to see to work out what the problem is!!

(you know that... verifying DMI pool data.... all that stuff...)

It covers it up with an annoying splash screen that just says 'XPC'...

How do I turn this screen off or remove it completely so I can see that information? I've checked all the user manuals and documentation that came with the shuttle but there's no mention of it....

I read most of the key points of Darth's post and I also watched the video.

From what I understand from the video this person and/or these people (the "Group") were talking (obviously loud enough for Richards to hear it, and long enough to enrage him) during Richards' stand-up routine, and he got pissed off. He decided to do something about it, and I think we can all agree that his choice wasn't really the best one.

But the facts that the Group was 1) being rude toward Richards in the first place and 2) retaliated by using terms just as derogatory as the term he used to refer to them shouldn't be ignored IMO. I don't condone what Richards did, but I'd say that, at least in part, the Group is also at fault.

My mom got remarried when I was 4 1/2 years old (14 years ago Thursday). My step-dad is perhaps one of the most racist people PRIVATELY that I have ever met. In public he still makes rude comments from time to time, but as long as the person/people in question aren't actually doing anything wrong and he is forced to interact with them, he'll treat them like he would a white person. Then later he'll turn around and talk about how terrible, lazy, worthless, etc. they are for not being white.

My mom is also partially racist, though she admits that some people, though black, are still good people. Just when she's talking with my step-dad she tends to make nasty generalizations saying things like "all [black people]."

However, I have made the concious choice not to end up like my parents. I know that, sure, there are black people out there who are bad people...but there's just as many white people and hispanic people and oriental people etc., etc. that are just as bad. And there's black people that are good people. I've met people with black skin that I regard more highly than I regard my parents.

Racism is a terrible thing IMO. A terribly stupid thing. The idea that someone is inferior just because they were born with a different skin color is perhaps the most invalid, illogical, idiotic line of thinking I have ever heard of (second probably to the line of thinking that nothing in fact exists and everything is just imagined). In the proper company I myself have made light of people's race, but never to the extent of intentionally offending anyone, and I have made it clear that my jokes were just that, jokes, and nothing more.

Anyway, the topic of the thread was the video itself and Richards' actions on the video, so...back on topic...Richards' actions were unacceptable, but the retaliation of the Group on Richards is equally reprehensible.

A friend of mine in college used to greet me with "hey nigga'!". Neither of us were white, neither of us were racist. I think people should stop getting so fucking distressed over a little word.

What this guy did was stupid, but clearly was just an act of blind rage.

The most offensive thing you can call a comedian onstage is "unfunny". The most offensive thing you can apparently call a black person is "nigger". The guy was yelling for him to "go back to Seinfield" and "you're not funny" and repeatedly interrupting the show to put him down. He deserved what he got.

My money will probably be spent on a PS3. The 360 just doesn't have enough exclusive titles of interest to me to get so far, and the x-box only lasted me about a year compared to the 5-6 (?) year lifespan of my PS2. (In terms of games AND durability)

It's funny you say that. I don't know about Xbox, but there seem to be VERY few PS3 exclusive titles... not even Final Fantasy mind you that's probably only for release...

I was worried about playing RPGs on the wii, too. You know, about getting tired and stuff. There's a Penny Arcade comic that broaches that subject though... apparently it's no more tiring than using a controller. hopefully that's true!

I agree though, that there are probably gonna be some excellent PS3 exclusives in the future... like Shadow of the Colossus etc on PS2... nyum nyum...

Somebody's always gonna make the begged statement, it's been me sometimes, sometimes somebody else. It's just the en-masse thing that sorta alarms me. I understand liking games a lot (I like games a lot!) but swearing allegience to a console is like saying you're really into your Panasonic CD player.

I'm not loyal to any console. I want them all. I can see advantages to each one. Granted, I am most excited about the Wii right now because of the control system, and because it's out over here in two weeks.

timlump is determined to put the Wii down in any way possible. I don't know how you're drawing your 'marketer' conclusion when we're all discussing the Wii in a thread about the Wii in a forum about video games.... but if we're acting like marketers, then so is he. Because he's putting just as much effort into putting the Wii down, as we are into talking about it.

As for swearing allegience to CDs... I've met people who swear allegience to certain MP3 players, which is probably a better example. If somebody came here a posted in a thread about iPods, saying that iPods are rubbish because you can only put ten MP3s on them and they break loads and cost £600 and encourage cocaine usage and the battery runs out in ten minutes... even though I don't particularly like iPods, i would set them right. If people are going to give an opinion about something, I expect them to know what they're talking about. And if not, then I expect them to be set straight so that next time, they'll think twice before posting uninformed opinions.

....heheh we're talking about next gen MM but yes, that reminds me... there won't be an awful lot of PS3 exclusives to start with. The only one I can think of right now is the next Metal Gear Solid... so I should be able to hold off buying a PS3 until the price drops a little.

Not really. If somebody started making uniformed and arguably 'stupid' comments about something you are passionate about or looking forward to... I hope you would either defend that thing, or ask that person to reconsider their argument.

If timlump was saying that he wasn't going to buy the Wii for some reasonable... er, reason... that would be fine. However, he keeps listing ridiculous reasons for disliking the Wii. Furthermore, he's extremely vocal about it.

If he was doing the same about a book or a film or another console or something else I felt passionately about, then I would do the same. Hopefully so would you.

Shuttle XPC SN95G5V3 (Barebone)


And the microphone does not work. No matter which one, how I set it up, it just fails to work. My boyfriend had the same shuttle a while ago (different machine but same model) and couldn't get his microphone to work either. APPARENTLY, it has something to do with drivers for the soundcard...

Anybody have a similar experience and know how to fix it? This kind of thing is a bit beyond me...

But you aren't good with AGS (I have played your game), and you're breaking forum rules repeatedly. And for some reason people are saying things like "lay off him". Which I agree with to a point. This thread shouldn't be open for people to continuously tell him how shit he is. But also, that seems to be the general attitude around here... "he's a n00b, let him scream himself out until he gets tired".

They should be spanked hard on the bottom and/or laughed at until they either go away completely, or change very very quickly.
