You probably know Jake Rodkin then...

This thread was started on another forum I frequent and a surprising number of people actually worked in the games industry, from programmers to QA to PR and all that.

So, who here works in the (real) games industry?

Okay here's the thing.

I want a beautiful Dell 24'' monitor. That's my primary target. I love big monitors the same way as some people love... drugs. If I could crush 24'' monitors up and snort them like cocaine, I would.

Sadly, I do not actually have a PC at the moment and will need to buy one in order to use my delicious 24'' monitor (which I haven't actually bought yet, either).

What kind of PC/graphics card am I going to need to run games at full res and stuff? Is it going to be terribly expensive?

Any advice?

I got... three B's, two D's and a C in the Irish LC... one of those D's was in Maths :)

Can get into all of the courses I want.

Thanks a million Boyd! It worked a treat!

This thread should be closed now :) Thanks all!

Hi hi,

I lost a lot of stuff on my harddrive that I want to get back. One of the things I really want to get back is the music for Beyond Reality. Is there some way of erm... opening the erm... finished game so I can get my midis back? If this makes sense...?

Petteri, do you have any of the midis that you could upload for me, too?

I do this! It's delicious!

I got shown it by a co-worker once and now that is how I eat delicious kitkats.

Is there a doctor on the forum!?

One of my friends had a bad family life and the way she used to deal with it was through bulemia. Whenever she got upset, she would make herself sick and refuse to eat. Her weight fluctuated a lot, she'd make herself miserable and obsess about food... but it wasn't to do with her weight. She didn't feel fat... she did it simply to punish herself for some reason. Even she doesn't know why she did it. She just did. It made her feel better to make herself sick, whenever something bad happened.

Anyway after leaving home/getting a boyfriend/etc she got a bit better and settled down a bit, and for a few years she's been really doing good... except for recently. She's been having some problems with her long-term boyfriend... she's too scared to confront him about some issues in case he leaves her, so she's starting to drift back to her old ways of not eating/making herself sick, instead of dealing with the problems she has. I'm worried, I don't know what to do... Is this problem Bulemia? It's not related to weight, that much I know... I don't even know where to start looking for information on it... anybody got any clues?

I'm a bit confused about the ID requirements between Ireland and the UK. Typically you would just have a passport and that's it... here's my problem.

None of my brothers or sisters, or my mother, have passports. They are Irish, but have never gone abroad. Now, I want them to come visit me in England before the end of summer... they could quite easily apply for passports, but they take many weeks to arrive and also it would cost quite a lot of money. Also I really don't trust my mother to be organized enough to apply for 6 passports without messing everything up.

So here's my question.

Is it possible for my mother to travel from Ireland to the UK and back, using her Driving License as photo ID? Easyjet says that you need a valid form of photo ID, eg driving license, to check in... but I have never seen ANYbody use anything other than a passport, and I'd hardly want my mother to turn up and be told, "Oh, you can use it to check in, but you need a passport to board the plane" or something rubbish like that.

Also, is it true that children under 16, if accompanied by an adult, do not need photo ID when travelling to/from Ireland and the UK?

Also, are passports required for ferries, and are they required for coaches? (Ireland - England coaches...)

Any information is appreciated :)

It would make things SO much easier if this were all true...

Well, I'm going to look at this situation from my point of view.

If my boyfriend broke up with me, I'd be devestated too. I'd grab onto every chance I had of keeping him, and not let go ever. I couldn't find another guy that could be as good as him. And I'd be confused because when I'm sad, the person I want to console me is him so... I'd have to go to him for comfort for what he'd done to me.

So I can see things from both your points of view.

But here's the thing. If we kept having a 'sex without commitment' relationship, it would destroy me inside. I'd want to move on, but how could I? I'd think that maybe there was a chance he'd still take me back. If I got another boyfriend I'd risk losing James altogether!

If I was just starting to get over him, and he told me he was JEALOUS I was sleeping with other guys... yes, I'd be angry. I'd be angry, furious, and I'd feel used by somebody I loved. If he's so jealous, why doesn't he take me back? Why did he let me be miserable for the past year?

So... I can see exactly why she's angry and telling you everything you've ever done wrong is just her revenge I guess... one that, to be honest, hurts you about one billionth of the amount you've hurt her. So I wouldn't really worry about it that much. She's probably just realised she doesn't need you and is angry that she wasted so much of her time trying to get you back. I can see why you did what you did though.

Anyway it's best just to lose contact with Exes. There's nothing I hate more than an ex girlfriend showing up. Bitches! You had your chance!

General Discussion / My Knee Locked!
Sat 17/06/2006 12:57:48
This morning I was lying in bed, and I was half asleep... then I moved my leg up. You know, just for comfort, drew my knee up like I've done a thousand times before.

Well my knee didn't like that. It locked. I was like, Huh?

It's just a cramp in my knee, I told myself, it will go away.

So I lay like that for about 20 minutes because I couldn't actually move. If I move my knee at all it would hurt so badly, quite besides the fact I was incapable of bending it at all. It had completely seized up!

I muttered something to my boyfriend about calling an ambulance maybe if I couldn't move by the end of the day. He said, "Nah, it'll be fine" and pushed the other leg down, believing it to be the stuck leg. I warned him, "If you fucking TOUCH my other leg I will fucking KILL you, AND my kneecap will pop off"

"oh" he said.

Eventually I tried sitting up my pushing myself with my arms, but this send a weird pain shooting through my spine and to my knee. I have no idea what that was about. But then I was able to move my knee sufficiently enough to roll over and, tired as it was 6am, I decided to fall asleep and maybe go to a doctor later when I could be bothered.

When I woke up again it seemed fine, I was able to move it, but now the muscles around that leg seem tight, and also the knee feels alittle bit weak if that makes sense. What the hell happened? I really don't want it to happen again... it was scary as hell.

When I was a kid, my favourite story was on this audio tape... I can't remember what it was called, who it was by.. but maybe you guys can help me identify it.

The story is basically that some kid goes home from school early because he has a secret to tell his mother. On the way he takes a shortcut through some woods he knows. But three terrible giants catch him and they're probably going to eat them, but he yells that he has the chicken pox so they drop him and he runs all the way home...

If I remember correctly, whoever was reading the book ended it with something like, "Snick Snack Snover, that story's over!"

Any ideas what it could have been?

Anyway, I also met Jake Rodkin from Mixnmojo/Idle thumbs at that same time since he lives in the San Fran area. Anyway, he and Chris Remo (aka remixor) tried to make an AGS game once, but it was poorly planned and they weren't into it so they never got around to it.

Spaff was the main character of that game ;)

Squinky, I think a couple of Idle Thumb forumers work at Telltale too... It'll be pretty odd randomly meeting people you sort-of know :)

Yes. If you don't have anything else to contribute, perhaps you could make yourself heard on another thread?
