I was very happy to receive Ben Jordan, case 2: the Lost Galleon of the Salton Sea, deluxe edition as my game, because I was already playing the series from beginning to end.
First things first: I played the actual game from start to finish (with the help of a walkthrough - I was more interested in the locations, characters and story, not so much the puzzles).

Spoiler
I really enjoyed the game, but I felt that the section on the actual galleon is quite short, compared to the rest of the game.

After this I pulled out the sketchbook and pencils and over the course of 3 days made about 17 tiny concept sketches. Questions, remarks and ideas by Cat and Ascovel during this phase helped me along tremendously (thanks fellow artists!).

After much deliberation I picked #13 as my favourite (for now - I might change this in the future!).
When I came back from Mittens I googled a bunch of source images that might help me out with finalizing the details:

And then it was on to a concept sketch with some preliminary color dabbed on:

So this is where it stands now. I expect a lot of details to change once I get going with this and I'm a little worried about picking a viewpoint that shows Ben Jordan from the back - it seems like a bit of a cop out, but on the other hand I like the dramatic over the shoulder/ high viewpoint. Hmm....

Okido, here's my entry...

The arrival of Terran Trade Federation vessels at the New Brasilia Colony outpost on Rigel XIV, as seen from the fringes of the Lurkwoods

Can I get brownie points for the most pretentious title? ;)

Special thanks to Abstauber and Kristina for organizing, dealing with much of the hassle and work before and during the week, shuttling us around, and for being such wonderful people. Let us know if there's a problem with the deposit; you are NOT going to be stuck paying for it.

My thoughts exactly!

A request: I were wondering whether you could label a photo or two of all mitteneers along with their usernames so that newbies such as myself would recognize everyone...

We made a group photo in front of the Reichstag - I'm pretty sure we could label that... I didn't take that picture though.

I took me a couple of tries before I actually walked on it :D

Home! after a lot of confusing train-business (trains not going, or simply too full to get a free seat).

This was a great Mittens - I enjoyed myself a LOT! ;-D
I feel pretty privileged to be part of this community and to be able to share a week a year with some of the funniest, smartest, most creative, geeky and awesome people I know. Thanks Mitteneers!

I'll share my pics as soon as I've had a chance to delete all the ones that are blurry/unfocused/have-a-thumb-in-front-of-the-lens.

Also: this Mittens I won mittens. Best Mittens ever! (thanks Cat).

You could have attended Mittens with her and proposed there! IN GERMAN! ;)
#113
Wheeeeee, indeed. :D

Yeah Esseb, that would make a great search option ... anyway - thanks all you guys for taking a look! I'm not giving up yet :D

Ah yes - good find! Our game is going to be different, and most likely not called Cowboy Billy Boom (which is why I'm looking for the English title).
Also that song is pretty grim, haha!

For a (non AGS) game I'm making I need some help from the community (that's you!). This game is based upon a children's song called 'Cowboy Billie Boem' in Dutch. It's one of those silly songs you sing around a campfire wherein a bounty hunting cowboy finds himself without a horse so he needs to switch to another animal to continue the chase. Any animal can be inserted in the lyrics and it can be repeated ad nauseam.
Now I KNOW there's an English/American version of the song (because I stumbled upon it a while back) but I can't for the life of me find it again! Does anybody know what this song is called in English?

Here's a Dutch version of the song:

Flip da flop. Do it! :D

Nice concept! I'd like to be with the in-crowd as well :D

It also would be nice to link the trophies back to the competition thread.

Good suggestion!

Again - I really think this is against individual creativity. Let me propose an alternative solution:

- we come up with a standard size for award icons (say 50 x 50 pixels).
- we (that is: AGA :D ) build a system that hosts these icons and allows competition starters to upload these standard size icons.

This way there is some consistency (icons are always the same size, and they will always show as they are hosted from a central repository) but there's still room for individual creativity (as quirky, bad, good, funky as that may be).

Sounds workable?
