Brilliant entries, all of them ... but my votes go to:

1st Place: Selmiak (3 points)
2nd Place: Waheela (2 points)
3rd Place: Ghost (1 point)

EDIT: done the whole 1-2-3 thing :D

Cr*p! I really wanted to do this one, and I had some design & backstory actually planned. But there was simply no time... :(
Great entries, my congratulations to JWalt & Ben304

So Trapezoid, do you use a Wacom (or similar device)? Because you can simply set the Photoshop pen tool to 1 pixel (or larger if you prefer) and use the pen pressure to control the opacity (Brush Settings > Other Dynamics > Opacity jitter 0%, Control: Pen Pressure).
Works fine for me :)

I'll see your Grim Fandango and I'll raise you some Sam & Max :D

#185
Oh damn, that's a shame... :( but you will be coming, right?

So after some serious thought and consideration, I've unfortunately realized that coming to Mittens this year isn't going to be good for my wallet, since I already spent a lot of money on my trip to Australia, am currently unemployed, and have a move to New York planned for September.  Go ahead and free up my spot for someone else.  I hope to see you all again next year!

Whaaaat!? That sucks... I fully understand your reasoning of course, but still. Bleh. :(

Ok, voting has ended and the results are in!

FIRST PLACE: KASANDER

SHARED SECOND PLACE: ADAM H & CERNO

SHARED THIRD PLACE: JWALT & FRED7162

There was a number of entries with an equal number of votes, hence the shared second and third places.

Congratulations to all the winners, feel free to claim your trophies!
Compliments to all the artists that participated, very cool to see what you came up with. I liked the animated tracks :D
And finally thanks to all the people that posted, voted and commented ...

I guess Kasander is up to organize the next Coloring Ball, good luck with that!

+1 to that suggestion!

Wait, what? Didn't you move to the Big Apple recently?

Whoo - it's a hard one! But interesting... I'm certainly going to enter :D
#191
That would of course be fine with me - it's mostly up to MeditativePixel: if he would like to organize this, then I'd say "go for it!". :D

cMiez.approve = true;

Ok, voting has ended and the results are in! There was some very VERY tight competition here (especially between the first and second place winners).

FIRST PLACE: KASTCHEY

SECOND PLACE: MEDITATIVE PIXEL

THIRD PLACE: SELMIAK

Congratulations to all the winners, feel free to claim your trophies!
Compliments to all the artists that participated - I was impressed by each and every entry.
And finally thanks to all the people that posted, voted and commented ...

I guess Kastchey is next up to organize the next Background Blitz, looking forward to it!

So, to conclude with some words by the great bard himself:

Our revels now are ended. These our actors,
As I foretold you, were all spirits and
Are melted into air, into thin air:
And, like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Ye all which it inherit, shall dissolve.

Right, this one has run its' course, thanks for all the cool entries! :-D

Time to vote for your favorite animated locomotion sprite...

Voting ends sunday april 28th!

Here are the entries:

2. by Jwalt

3. by fred7162 (I know he said to disregard his entry, but it's animated, it fits the outline and I guess cyclopses have to go from A to B as well, right?)

4. by Cerno

Miez, I'm going to add a last minute entry (animation is missing at the moment).

One question: When you say I can replace the outline with my own colors, does that include transparent?
It's just a few pixels in my case and would greatly improve the image, but at the same time I guess it would sabotage the whole exercise because then people could create arbitrary outlines as they please.
Just asking. ;)

Edit: Nevermind, I finished it without transparency

I's my first serious attempt at pixel graphics.
Man, I really should have planned this better, the chain ended up with 4 frames and the wheels with 3, so I had to go with 12 frames total. :(

Nice entry, and yes - I'd have accepted "transparent" for the outline color :D

I made a noob mistake with that one. My apologies. I spent some time looking at the last Coloring Ball, and now have a clearer idea of whassup. Should have done that sooner, but I was just wanting to find out of cMiez could also say "Disqualified!" as well as "Whee!" This one may come closer to cMiez's intent:

                    Jim

cMiez.Say("Approved!");  :cheesy:

Not bad at all ... but it could do with a bit of shading, imho. Unless flat colors are the look you're going for, of course.
#197
Ok, truly fantastic entries this time (even though no one went with the Olivia Newton John angle, which is a shame! :-D )

Voting begins now and concludes Thursday April 25th

Please pick your favourite background in each of these categories:

Atmosphere: Is an interesting world created? - Did the scene evoke a feeling?
Composition: How well are the elements combined to create a pleasing whole? do they lead the viewer to the points of interest?
Functionality: How well would it work as a game background?
Technique: How well is it rendered? (within the chosen style, in no way meaning the more elaborate the better).

(categories mostly stolen from Waheela's Background Blitz, as it's a pretty comprehensive list)

Here are all the entries side by side:

MeditativePixel

Shane 'ProgZmax' Stevens

Selmiak

Kastchey
[imgzoom]http://www.miez.nl/tmp/BB13/xanadu_kastchey.png[/imgzoom]  [imgzoom]http://www.miez.nl/tmp/BB13/xanadu2_kastchey.png[/imgzoom]

Kasander
[imgzoom]http://www.miez.nl/tmp/BB13/kasander.jpg[/imgzoom]
(I know Kasander labeled this as 'a sketch' and 'unfinished' but I still regard it an entry).
#199
Well, that's a shame... :(
#200
That sucks, Selmiak - fingers crossed for a miracle! :D
