Can you make a high colour BG and have your favourite graphics program downgrade it to 256, or do you need to handpick your 256 colours?

Quote from: Squinky on Sun 17/04/2005 13:15:33But quick question, what is this a3/a4 format?

These are standard (European?) paper sizes. A4 is 210 mm wide, 297 mm high. A3 is bigger: 297 mm wide, 420 mm high. The sizes go from A6 (postcard size) to A0 (ridiculously huge wallpaper sized) I think.
And there are A3 flatbed scanners (bigger than normal size) but they are expensive...

Great find, DG ...

A friend of mine has an Amiga 600 that he's been using for over 8 years straight - every day, 10+ hours per day ... and it's still working fine ... try that with a Dell!  ;D
I looove the Amiga. :-*

I was not sure if this would go here, or in some of the technical threads. So any moderator stumbling over this: please move it as required. ;D
A very handy - but somewhat technical - and not AGS specific, website can be found at:

http://www-cs-students.stanford.edu/~amitp/gameprog.html

He has lots of information on all the niggly bits of programming...

Well, your core program has to be one file - but you can definately work with external files: graphics, sound, 3d objects, animations, text files, etc. And load/unload them whenever you need to.
BlitzBasic and DarkBasic can not be compared to AGS: they are far more generic, and don't work with discreet "room" files like AGS (for instance).

And be ready to make bucketloads truckloads cargofreighterloads of 3d objects, environments and animations. ;D

I've dabbled around with DarkBasic a little, so from that experience and from looking at the techdemo's they have on offer I'm pretty sure something GK3-like is possible. If you want to make a game like that, however, be ready for an insane amount of work...

I think games like this could be made in DarkBasic (http://darkbasic.thegamecreators.com/) or BlitzBasic (http://www.blitzbasic.com/). These engines are very generic, and all sorts of games can be made in them (2D, 3D). Something like GK3 would very well be possible.

Well! that was a very unsatisfying piece of music! I put the Golden Gate Fight piece on, started surfing the worldwide interweb some more and before I knew it, it had looped a few billion times.
And it just kept building up tension. More and more. Every loop the "yes, yes! climax now!" feeling got bigger and bigger. Until I just had to switch it off.
Great piece of work. ;D

Halo 2.

first game I sold after a few weeks. What a piece of shit that is.

- incomprehensible story
- butt-ugly texture popups
- very uninspired slapped together level design
- those horibble "now you are the alien" levels

Just my fifty cents of hatred. :D

One thing I am sorely missing from Photoshop is a Navigator window...the scroll bars are difficult for me especially with a Wacom, is there some equivalent thing I'm missing?

Simply keep one hand on your stylus and one hand near your space bar. With a quick tap of the space bar you turn your cursor into a "move canvas" hand and you can easily scroll around your drawing (very handy when zoomed in). Let go of the space bar and you can continue doodling. Try it! :D

It is a very nice BG, there's one little thing bugging me: the edge of the rivers and ponds (where the water meets the yellow stones) is blurry, making it look like they are filled with blue fluffy mist, instead of water.
Love the texture on the ground though.
How did you make this image?

Quote from: Guybrush Peepwood on Sun 27/02/2005 13:22:12I think teh gr@di3n7 should get removed from all graphic designing programs.

And I think people should just learn to use them properly. Gr@di3n7 4r3 t3h R0xx0rzz!

Wouldn't it be nice to have some really good speech synthesis software? that would make making talkie versions so much easier ... it would have to be really good software though, but the technology does exist.

Completely ditto on what YOke said (including Naked Lunch being my favourite), but I think Existenz is a pretty nifty movie. It certainly looks great (remember, I'm a very visual person).
