2. I'm intrigued as to what building 17 is used for?  It's only just over the width of a single character (unless that's a HUGE door?!)... Doesn't look like there'd even be enough room to walk past another person in there...   I'm all for oddly shaped buildings but I'm stumped for a usage!

Seriously, that is a pretty sweet BG. The only thing that looks a little odd is the bush in the foreground. Because it stretches perfectly from the near edge of the path to the far edge, it appears to lie on top of the path. Maybe shift it a little bit down?

You've still got a little confusion (for me) about the light source.  The top of the structure (with the copper roof) is highlighted from the top/left and the rest seems to be highlighted from the top/right (as you mentioned).

That's only true if that roof is actually concave (or is it convex?) -  anyway, bulging towards the viewer. If it's sagging (and the edge suggests something cloth and awning-like) the lighting is actually correct.

Have you (accidently) pressed the 'F' key a few times? it gives a black backdrop in of the view modes... other than that I have no idea...

I don't want to turn this thread into an "America is bad" bashfest, but I think that George Bush and his government are one of the worst things we've seen in quite some time. Bad for America, and bad for the rest of the world as well.
Of course the search for WMDs was a completely bogus operation ... hell, if the Iraqis had had weapons of mass destruction we would have known (as we would probably have sold them the parts ...)
I was watching tv the other day and I saw a documentary about the world's oil reserves. Bush's senior economic advisor told the interviewer the following:

"the world's oil reserves will run out in 10 to 20 years."

Take a minute, think about that. Everything we have and do is based on oil. The war in Iraq is about oil. Not because there are major reserves of oil in Iraq but to establish a beachhead and powerbase in that region. America has no influence in an area that is going to be of major importance in the next few decades. They're trying to fix that. Simple.

On the subject of a workable GUI: it would be possible to use the old Lucasarts context sensitive text interface (like they used in Labyrinth): a scrolling list of verbs and nouns. That would be easy...

And you could use your mouse in a (rather limited) 3D way: just make the little scroll wheel control your third axis (up & down for instance). Bit cumbersome - but hey.

I'm no expert but I'm not sure what Flash would have over AGS in terms of adventure game production, except on-line playability. If it's adventure games your sick of though, I say go ahead and use Flash.

I've programmed some stuff in Flash. It's bothersome, over-complicated and counter-intuitive. But then I suck at programming
