If you stay at that job, it's gonna eat away at your mental health. Get out now.

I completely second that! Get the hell out - we need you for much more important work. FoY teamleading and coding and all that.
So how big is the chance that you can find a similar job at a different company (one that doesn't suck)?
Hang in there - while trying to find something else!

I completely hate and despise games that give the player no feedback when it comes to hotspots. FoA gave a text feedback, as did the MI 1&2 games. Making your puzzles harder by just filling the BG with intricate detail and then have the player try to click on EVERY little bolt, bit, bob, nook or crannie with a 95% "no response" result is a crime against humanity. Sort of. And it sucks. And I hate it.
I think giving a hotspot feedback doesn't make puzzles too easy, with some creative thinking you can make great and taxing puzzles (even if you show labels for "three levers", a "caged mongoose" and an "underwear cabinet" in the room).

Wanker guests ... there is a switch in the Yabb board settings to stop guests from posting, maybe switching this on is an idea?

Er - whoops - that's what you get for hiring cheap serverspace. Mine seems to be down at the moment, keeping all of you hungry young readers from the goodies. No AGSTV, no FoY forum. The situation will be magically remedied in a few minutes/hours/days. As soon as they recapture the monkeys and put them back in the treadmill. Or something...

Just keep trying.

I second that - I'll take a break from the forums as well. Instead of being a stimulating and constructive place to hang out in, all the bickering just gets on my nerves.

Quote from: Goldmund on Wed 16/07/2003 11:57:19One needs to think about the proposed forum as a SENTIMENTAL, COMMUNITY initiative, a place for old friends to chat in, not some better-than-others club.

Nevertheless - it will be a better-than-others club: people in it will think so, and outsiders as well. I have no say in this matter, being a green n00b, and I know I risk some virtual flamestorm to rain down upon me from Mount AGSlympos - but it sounds like a bad idea.

Why would you want to single yourselves out? separate yourself from the rest of the community? It doesn't sound very constructive and, yes, it is elititst in my opinion.

Why not have your "in game internet search engine" come up with (say) five top results in response to hardcoded, prefab search queries? (that might become available if the player finds out more details). That way the player still has to sift through those five and find the right clue by him/herself. It saves you the trouble of trying to make a fully functional internet simulation.

In writing this, I assume you don't have a scanner. Why don't you make your sketch and photocopy it to a reduced size (most photocopy machines can do this). This would work - it would be a lot of hassle though (and pretty expensive, unless you know someone with a photocopy machine).
Probably easier (and ultimately cheaper) to buy a really cheap flatbed scanner. :)

Wowie! these are great - and I remember your BG art from a little way back, which was very good as well. This is going to work really well, the Starwars universe is a great one for a good adventure (something that hasn't been done yet, I guess).
Make a Leia! :)

General Discussion / Re:Yufster HATE Thread.

There is a fine line between telling someone what you think about them (be it positive or negative) and being downright insulting and verbally aggressive. In my opinion Helm crossed that line.

Proskrito, I dont know what it is, but something is terribly messed up with the pdf version.

er, vel - not on this side of the internet. PDF file looks fine to me, better than the Word file (where the tech-corner listing is all over the page and through the carefully crafted grey boxes). :)

Bloody hell, Helm - I can understand you being annoyed with Yufster (many people were), but starting a thread with "*** HATE thread" just goes too far. Have a little decency.

Just read Vel's preview of your game Dragonrose - and it looks absolutely ace! This is one game I'm going to be playing for sure. The plot sounds great, the graphics rock and I've always liked the GK-type interface.
Good luck with it! :)

Very nice e-zine Vel - well done, keep up the good work!

Tres cool picture, and congrats with the new tablet! Painter is supposed to be really cool with tablets (isn't it bundled with your Wacom?), especially for your style of drawing (i.e. natural, handdrawn stuff).

Actually the perspective on the door and video screen look pretty good - it's the "light thing" in the ceiling that looks a bit strange - like it's tipped backwards.
Nice BG btw. :)
