Oh, my mistake then. Sorry, no harm intended.

To clear possible misunderstandings, what Snarky posted is also MrColossals template.

Andail @ General discussion:
Quote- - Colouring ball is basically sprite jam "light"; a shortcut around the initial step of creating a sprite, and beside its, imho, fundamental flaws, it never caught much attention anyway. - -

"Not enough attention" is what I've been most surprised to see being said as a reason to end CB. It was almost constantly two pages with more than 10 entries, so I think it was fairly popular when compared to other competitions.

What comes to being "Sprite Jam Light", I can't see why that is such a big deal either? SJ might be more demanding, but I think CB wasn't stepping on it's toes in any way.

"Shortcut"? Having a ready-made lineart doesn't mean you should use the fill tool and make an entry in 10 seconds.

A quick one just before deadline(?). Nice entries everyone.

Dedicated to Calvin:

On the topic, I remember seeing that site in the past too.

Nothing to report though, since like ildu already described, there are various reasons why I'm not the same person as the Mikko @ Funky Duck. :)

They are all very enjoyable, but the one that hit me most was the one with childs in the theatre. :)

Hope to read more of these in future.

New entry - Fallen Angel : 15+1 colours, 136x150

Non entry
This means we get to see even more masterpieces? Good! :)

I rarely make this big sprites because I easily get lazy and don't have the patience to carefully select all those 22500 pixels (150x150). So I may have rushed it in the end this time too, but I'm still quite satisfied with the result. I might still update the image later, but that is not probable.

86x134, 21 colors (incl. transparency)

Oh, and it's a demon, not angel, if someone can't recognize. ;)

It had massive horns first, but I couldn't get them right so i changed them to something more simple.

General Discussion / Re: Funny Serious Game

I didn't get to play any previous versions, but this one seemed quite easy on the contrary what I read first here in the forums.

Anyhow the idea behind the game is great, good work.

I had brief opportunity to play a german game called Ecopolicy few months ago. Unless you've already seen it I think you might want to check it out.

Even though this might be late considering what you wrote, here is anyway a quick paintover.

5x Edit:

I tried to make it more clear lined. It's maybe more boring, but in this roselution it's probably the only way to make things recognizable.

It definately would need more work, but if you stick with lo-res and get any ideas out of this, then - thats great! :)

Edit: While I was at it, I did another. :)

Idea - 3. Tocsik Whereas this bg lacks slightly in functionality and composition, the idea struck me the most.
Atmosphere - 7. loominous  The only thing i'm not sure if I like is the white hazy background in the image. Other than that, it is marvellous.
Design - 7. loominous
Composition - 7. loominous The image is easy to read, but it's not too straightforward.
Functionality - 4. nihilyst Being in form of RPG emphasizes functionality.
Technique - 7. loominous

It is great to have something like this. Thank you for your efforts and congrats!

This is not critics lounge, but in overall the layout is a bit messy though. The general font is maybe not the best choice for readability and the backgrond image is a little distracting.

I like the presentation of BG Blitz entries. Maybe sprite jam (or other competitions) could be represented too?

I hope to read more of these. :)

Beginners' Technical Questions / Re: Images

I'd like to add, that with rooms you can of course have 5 different images by using the extra frames that normally are for animation.

Also this came to my mind. One way to do this without making new rooms would be making a gui and change the background of that gui depending what player is viewing. I must admit that i have no idea if that is smart in any way.

Okay guys, now that we have ildu kneeling on the floor and begging, let's bring out those bg's.

Here is mine. Once again small, pixelly one from me. Although there are carefully and thoughtfully hand laid pixels, I also used the evil burn tool and noise. So sue me.

180x110 (160x90), 256 colors.

EDIT: Sorry, false information. Thanks SSH.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Tutorials
Fri 03/11/2006 16:16:53
Yutzter: I was just clicking through all of them, noticed the same and was going to post a similar post like yours.

I could take a little project and gather working tutorials in a list. Unless I found some other topic/page where this job is already done. :)

Edit: Empty promise. But hopefully someone has the time and patiency to collect a working list some day.

I think four categories was enough, but my voting wont be affected by the amount of categories.

Main thing is to have balanced categories.

Voters who are willing to comment are also important. Plain vote doesn't say much. If it is like that then we could as well have voting just for one category: the best piece.

Radiant: And how should that help Vince Twelves problem with one month being not enough? ;)

Good work overall. I try to give some comments.

1. Technically good, but would deserve a series around a theme to make it more interesting. Hard to make good composititon with object like that, it is maybe a tad too tight crop.

2. First impression was great, but after a while there is couple of things you might want to reconsider if having another session. The background has a high contrast between the sun lighted grass and the shadow of the building. I know you couldn't change the place of those iron handles in the ground, though. Other thing would be the guys shirt that blends a bit into the background, while his white shorts strike out bright.

3. You might want to watch out those background windows, but otherwise a good describing photo.

5. Again a high contrast bg, but this time it suits wonderfully. Only the area where her face meets the background blends a bit. Good choice of angle.

Do you use sharpening after making images in web resolution, because you could use more. Some of them look a bit blurred, or then it's just me (I woke up not long ago :))

7&8. You have captured feelings exceptionally well in these pictures. I can't believe the other one if it's only in basic kitchen lighting without extra flash. It is very well edited.

9,10&11. Again very good use of available light. In the flower picture a tighter crop could do. The women in the picture has excellent pose, only distracting thing would be those halos/lens flares.

12. Brilliant colors and good composition, especially if there was meant to be some text on the left side of the picture. This photo is one example of what i wrote earlier about the sharpening. I'm sure sharpness is no problem in the original, but it seems to me a little too soft in this size.

15. Bright white shirts are always difficult. Good picture, anyhow. As the upper two too.

16. Funny image. :) It's good that one can identify the baby as a toy right away. It is crazy how much the position of the arm (from down to up, like lifting the baby high) makes for the photo. So good "non-thinking"! ;)

17. Even though you say it is a photoshoot, it doesn't look like this shot was planned. The lighting might be the biggest problem. Atleast I'm  a bit confused about the feeling I should get and about the feelings I do get. But maybe it's just me thinking too much of the technical side.

Sorry I didn't proofread/spell check this, hope you get something out of it. :)

I promise to visit your site some day.

(...and I promise myself to start taking pictures again!)
