I do understand that...which is why I thought the question was nosey. That said I don't necessarily agree that the release of those figures necessarily hurts the sale of games. But I don't really want to argue that point, because I don't have anything other than my personal thoughts to guide me to that decision, and I know regardless of figures, I'll be buying Dave's games.

However, if this is working out well for Dave, it would be not only nice to hear about it, but I know it would help me weigh the options of doing the same thing myself in the future.

Perhaps this is a bit nosey, but I would be interested to hear how well your games are doing  for you economically. How many of Shiva's have been sold, as well as the Blackwell game. Is this a full time thing now, or just a hobby that earns a little keep? I'm interested because what you are doing now is a dream for many of us, and it would be nice to see how well it works.

I will be buying both games as soon as I graduate and aren't dependant on my parents. So you can count at least 20 dollars from me this upcomming summer.

As far as game development, I'd label this a bad year. Some of the problem stems from the fact that I probably had my hardest semester this year. And the last semester was a close second, so my free time hasn't been flowing as it did when I was in high school.

I did actually manage to get some work done on Ace Quest 2, but unfortunatly, had a situation where I needed to format the entire system, and the last backup I had was from 2003, and most everything there, other than graphics, had been reworked.

Over the summer I had been working on a project outside of AGS and finally took the time to learn some of the Allegro Libraries. Luckily, I had worked on that on my parents computer, and all the work is still there. However, due to a full-time job, I didn't get as far as I'd have liked.

On another note, I did finally delve into the latest version of AGS, my last version was quite old, and didn't have the new style of coding. While I do like the more object oriented approach, I still am adjusting to it. And right now I'm pretty inert because I just came home and am visiting all the family I can.

As far as the winning aspect, while I agree we should just be making games for satisfaction, having a competion maybe makes people go that extra mile when making their games. That isn't to say people won't make great games, but some people like the idea of competition and really get into it, and while I'm not one of the people, I can see the benefits of it.

Personally, I don't really care that much if these games are deleted. Mainly because we have our own wiki http://americangirlscouts.org/agswiki/index.php/Main_Page that we don't update nearly enough. This could definitely be fleshed out a lot more that it has, and I'd rather see more content here, because anyone who's truly interested in AGS games will eventually stumble upon this site, and we don't have to worry about notoriety, or, hopefully, copyright infringment.

But remember, a bride only has three words in her mind on her wedding day: "Aisle. Altar. Hymn"

So I guess the grooms is "I'll alter her hymen"

I know it sounds counterintuitive, but why not extend OROW over a series of two or three weeks. Anyone who wants to submit states the day they're begining working on their game, and if they don't submit their game in time, they don't qualify. That way we can try and fit OROW into our own schedule, rather than having to worry about someone elses.

Even if a stable black hole were "released" on earth, and consistently gaining mass, it would take a really long time for it to affect the earth in adverse ways. David Brin tackles this issue in his book Earth, and while it is science fiction, he does have his doctorate in astrophysics and has consulted for NASA. But there really isn't much to worry about. We're far more likely to die from Nuclear warfare, than black holes.

At the moment I couldn't get to the link but my internet has been slow recently.

I think they we're all drawn well.

Some of the jokes were done well. Others felt forced.
I think the bear one and the I am going to the store one, we're probably the best. The other one's weren't bad, just didn't tickly my fancy.

You could always make your own jerky. Of course, it'll be expensive either way. Jerky is about a 4:1 ration of meat to jerky.

I think if this does go through, you should try obviously try to get an estimate in cost for something with the sliding scales based on number of people willing to buy objects.

I'd say it be far easier to just stick to one item a year. A blue cup mug, or a t-shirt would be obviouse choices. Collecting money before actually going out and buying things might be your best bet as far as raising money. It seems everyone's willing to go to about 10 dollars. However, I'd say the cost of making and then shipping an item is probably higher than that,  I'd be willing to spend about 20 dollars on a mug or shirt, which really isn't that much money. Maybe a little over three hours of work on minimum wage (depending on where you live). Which, I've definatley got more than three hours worth of work and enjoyment out of AGS's editor and community. I've dropped more than 20 dollars on a meal, honestly, if I had a full time job right now, I'd put more than 20 dollars in.

It's far easier to blame computer games then the school and the education system. For one, most people are willing to believe that violent video games cause aggression, so it's an easy way for politicians to say, "It wasn't our fault, blame the entertainment industry." It's always funny that they go right for video games, but violence in movies and television isn't nearly attacked as much. The truth of the matter is that there were people who killed people long before video games. I'm not arguing that video games don't cause aggression, I don't have enough information to back up the claim that video games have nothing to do with it. Perhaps video games affect people who are already mentally unstable to do things that they wouldn't have done otherwise...I don't think so, but it is a possibility. People should have to take some sort of psychoanalysis before being allowed to play any games...including tetris.

There's obviously a problem somewhere...and I don't see how banning video games will solve it. The population is growing, and the ability for people to get weapons that cause far greater damage in the past has grown. I wouldn't care so much if they banned violence in video games, as long as they banned it in other forms of entertainment too. Not that I think that would solve anything, but at least it would apply to all forms of violent entertainment rather than just picking on one medium.

I think that the bottom line is that Games/Television aren't as bad for you as people think. Regardless of the complexity of television today, which I think has more to do with an increase in technology that allows more things to be filmed and edited faster than in previous years, as well as better word processors. Regardless of the discussion of whether tv is smarter or not, I do agree that it and video games aren't destructive. That said, too much of anything isn't good. You can't just watch tv all day and say your learning, if all you ever do it watch tv.

I would do a quick research on google and find articles on the health risks of depriving yourself of sleep. Personally, I wouldn't do it...especially if I had kids. I'd work more just on time managment skills and try to get in as much as possible in an efficient manner.

I'm just not sure why it's taken ten plus years to work on database management issues. Or really how that relieves that much code off the user of his application. But I'm not interested enough to research it myself.

General Discussion / Re: The Who's Tommy movie

The movie was good for providing a few hints on some of there more cryptic songs. Most of the music you can figure out what's happening, but the movie pulled everything together in a nice focused view. So I'd say the movie did add something to the music for me...however, I'd rather listen to the music than watch the movie. Mainly because Oliver Reeds singing talents, which made it difficult to listen to without cringing.

This is pretty much exactly how I feel about Jesus Christ Superstar, too ( the one done by Norman Jewison)  Only instead of Oliver Reed being the culprit it's Josh Mastel's King Harod which wasn't too hot. The music from the broadway show, is excellent, though. Although I haven't seen the one done in 2000, which is supposed to be better...so I might change my mind later.

As some reviewer said is, the amount of enjoyment you'll get out of this movie is directly proportional to how much you enjoy the movies name.

The atmosphere at the movie theater was great. If you went with a packed house, it can only help the movie.
