I believe Sylpher was able to make a usable text adventure, but it definitely would take a lot more coding, because you're tring to make AGS do something it's not meant for.  I'd probably go with a text parsar game and get the best of both worlds, though.

True story...

So I parked my car on top of a drainage grill thing, and I got out a air pump because I was going on a long car drive the next day. As I was sitting there I got a phone call, so I answered it, and put the cell in my lap. After the tire was pumped sufficiently I got up. My cell phone didn't agree with this decision and decided to plunge for the drain. I was outside my friends complex because I was going to play poker that night, so he came out and I asked him to call my phone, because it was dark and I still had an ounce of hope that maybe the cell phone was under my car. So I watched through the grill as my phone began to light up, mocking my existence. I wasn't so concerned about losing my phone as much as losing all the numbers programmed in my cell.

So using my keen puzzle logic skills attained from our cherished adventure games, I quickly went to the task of trying to extract my phone. It was about four feet down in the drain and luckily it was dry in there. Okay so I needed something long...find long stick or pole. My friend had a broom handle...it was just long enough to reach the bottom. Good. Now I need something to grab phone. Duck Tape! The best invention of mankind, came to the rescue. OK. So the phone sticks, but I can only lift it about two feet before it falls. So I obviously need to get some more surface area. I cannabalize a tissue box and wrap the tape around it, then somehow attatch it to the broom handle...after a few minutes of work my cell phone extractor is complete. So in goes the pole, up goes the phone, and down goes the phone when it hits the grill. So I assess the situation again. Someone needs to put there hands in the grill and grab the phone. I already have a group of friends watching the whole process, and one of them is a five foot girl with small hands. Perfect! And with correct cooridination we manage to get the cell phone out!

It was totally worth dropping in the drain!

I use facebook, which is specific to colleges. And I can be addicted to, but I've been on a lull, as of late.

For such a well rated show, it doesn't really get a lot of viewers. Personally, I didn't enjoy the couple episodes I saw, but I've heard rave reviews from enough people to know the only reason it's getting cancelled is because it's on fox, and fox likes axing shows.

Don't get your hopes up too high. AGS still has to compete with klick and play.

I see no reason why it wouldn't, but since I only have regular XP, I can't say for sure. However, this would be the route I'd go...or by an old computer.

If they're inside cats it adds about seven years to their life, if that may be the cause.

I'd name the cat Dragon Slayer, but only because I wanted to name my cat that, but since he already came with a name, my roomates and I decided to keep it.

While I see no reason for their to be a law about the issue. It is as much a guys right to know, whether his wife is pregnant, and is deciding to get an abortion. What if I got married and then decided to have a vivisection, without telling my wife. It's my body...but wouldn't it affect the relationship, if I didn't tell her, and she is trying to have a baby? Yes, we don't live in a perfect world, and there will always be people who don't fit in this category. But a women should definately let the guy know. Especially, a couple who is married.

The right or wrongness of abortion isn't really part of the question, so I won't go into it.

Great voice acting is hard to come by. It does add tremendously to a game if done well, but it can also hurt a game incredibly if it's not done well. I think text games allow people to interject their own style in a character, which has a potential to make them enjoy the game even more.

I think everyone has covered resolution, so I won't go into it.

Narration versus the players response, it a personal choice. Both, if utilized correctly, will work. It also depends on your graphical ability. If you think you can help fill out a room with words better than graphics, narration is the way to go. But if your graphics are decent enough, then use the characters response.

With speech views, you can show expressions using either style. If you can show expression using a few pixels, it can be affective. However, if you feel you want a close up, that's fine, too. I'd look at Callihans Crosstime Saloon, I really enjoyed how they did speech. Though, the game was a bit buggy.

These topics do fall in the category of game design. Graphics of a game fall under the category of game design.

I think of myself as a person who "just can't draw." I agree, that if I took the time to practice and went through some hardship I could be person who could draw. However, making backrounds is something I absolutely loath. I just don't enjoy doing it. I also don't enjoy doing things I hate. So, it's obvious I'm not going to put the time and effort into becoming better at it. If, and hopefully when, I decide to make a game for profit, I fully intend to get someone who's passion falls in this area. For a freeware game, I'll make my own graphics.

I think there are people who "just can't draw." Just like there will be people who just can't orchestrate music. It's not that these talents are above them, it's that they lack natural ability, and a desire in seeking how to gain that ability the hard way around. They see no gain by learning this talent.

However, this leaves people like myself in a conundrum(sp?). Only because it's much easier for a pretty lookin game filled with a vile gut wrenching plot, then a not so good looking game with a nice cream filling, to attract a bigger audience. I do believe graphics make up people's minds from the start. Some people will not open thereselves to a game with horrible graphics. But in the end, if you're game is really good, people will suffer through the eye poop you put on the screen.

I had something in mind to send, but it was on my home computer, and since a Hurricane just blew by and the power is down over there, I probably won't be able to meat the deadline, and I don't want to recreate it, because I'm generally lazy.

QuoteMy mum used to describe the weather as "A bit moist". Either she is secretly an erotic fiction writer instead of a Deaconess, or Mills is speaking sloblock

While a valid argument. I was relating the word moist with the usage of Terran's girlfriend. I can only assume that combining the two words in one sentence implies a sexual stimuli of some sort. And the word moist doesn't necessarily have to be dirty. A cake can be moist. The weather can be moist...and arguably, my definition of internal water isn't wiped away, as the weather has water internally. While I may sill be speaking sloblock, I don't think the word moist is a dirty word in all situations.

Space Quest has a great theme.
Star Wars and while it is John Williams it is a bit different then most of his work
Red Dwarf has some great theme music
Lord of the Rings
Harry Potter
Gladiator

Not necessarily my favorit movies but they did have a decent score.

He would have used the word wet, then. Moist implies internal wetness, thus we were to assume that this moistness was the cause of some sexual stimulation, and her bodies reaction to said stimulation.

Whether or not this constitutes as rape, is a grey area. I'm sure it's safe to assume, that since this is his girlfriend that she has been a willing participant in some sexual act. However, since she was at the will of Terran under Hynosis, who's to say that she would have wanted anything of that nature. Although, it's argued that anyone under hypnosis will not do anything they are strong opposed to, this is debatable. However, since she's allowed herself to be hypnotized more than once, I think it's safe to assume that in this scenario it isn't rape. I think it's a little strange to try and stimulate an essentially non-responsive person, but sometimes I do like to play hard to get with myself.

It's kind of cool that you're able to hypnotize someone. I remember as a kid my friends tried to hypnotize me, so I played along. And had them fooled for a good half-an-hour. As I've never actually been witness to hypnosis, I don't really know how much of it I believe. I think much of what you see on tv/movies is over-exaggerated, but I could be wrong.

Adam and Eve...we'd totally be in the garden if it wasn't for them. And people wouldn't look at me funny when I was naked. Well, they might look at me funny, but not because the act of being naked, just the act of me being naked I suppose.

Ace Quest was my first attempt at making a game. It took me a while to find an engine that I liked. I remember downloading AGS, when it was in dos mode, and then promptly deleting it. Then upon searching and not finding anything good, I came back to it, lived with the fact that it was dos, and made a game. It should also be noted that I was extremely happy and suprised when a Window version came out.

AQ wasn't really the first idea I had for a game. I didn't really even know exactly what I wanted to make, but as I explored the features and made one room, everything started panning out in my mind.

I think what Firefly represents is just pure entertainment. I don't believe there's any substance, nor does there have to be. Maybe it's just me, but when I watch tv shows, I don't necessarily always wants substance. I think what Firefly does bring, though, is witty dialog. Yeah, the characters are conventional...but so what? They're entertaining, and I find the acting to be just fine.

As far as BSG's concern I watched a good bit of the episodes when they showed them all together before the second season, but have had no inclination to watch further. They were good shows, but to me it's a bit too much dramaish. The characters had depth, but the show was like "Hey, look at me, my characters have depth," and just pummeled me with it for the whole show.

But we could probably argue and argue, and our oppinions of Firefly and BSG wouldn't change. But those who haven't seen the movie, go and watch it and form your own oppinions.
