General Discussion / Re: Socialism
Sat 29/05/2004 17:48:04
As far as socialism goes it's a nice idea, but frankly it just wouldn't work.

I think everyone is entitled to the RIGHT to have food, clothes, and shelter. But it is up to them to do something about it. I am not going to college to help someone I couldn't give two shits about. If they're poor by their own will, let them be so. If, however, someone is unfairly poor due to something like racism...I'm all for people helping them out. One thing, though. No one should ever be forced to "give" their money for a "greater" cause. If people want to donate their money to the poor, they should. But if I worked for my money, my clothing, my shelter...and really have no wish to help the poor, I shouldn't have to do so.

Are my views selfish? Shouldn't I be entitled to everythign I work for? Let it be up to me, whether I want to donate money money or not. Don't demand it of me. It's not yours to demand.

That said, I do donate money, but I do so of my own free will. And to causes I find worthy. I truly wish people could all have work, money, shelter, and clothing. I have no ill wishes on anyone. But I, nor anyone else, shouldn't be commaned to be responsible for other's welfare.

It took me only a few minutes to figure this game out, and while I got this gooey warm feeling upon accomplishing this task. It's not so much a math puzzle as much as figuring out how the title applies to the game. If you're still stuck solving it, you need to find the derivatives of the slope of the graph of the die. It won't really give you the answer, but, it'll be about as much of an effective use of your time.

I'd say it was far fetched...if I was stuck in a situation where I had to pay to go to the restroom, I would go the restroom on the coin slot.

For making puzzles I usually work backwards. If I want to eventually kill the bad guy, for instance, I need a gun. Well how do I get a gun? I need money. I don't have money. How do I get that? And you just go as far back as you want.

I saw The Stuff, and for some reason it gave me nightmares.

I wouldn't consider the Labryinth Lame. I love the movie. It's cheesy yes...but lame?

I vote Mario Brothers, even as a kid I didn't enjoy it.

EDIT - it's an early nintees movies, but why should we be limited to just one decade?

Lately my views on this issue have started to change. My old views would probably go along the line, that everyone should smoke (weed) once in their life. Alchohol and weed are about equal in harm to body.

However, when you see friends who begin to get addicted to alchohol or weed, your ideas start to change.

I would now argue, that if you want to smoke or drink, than do so. But I won't tell any of my friends to get into it. Because you never know what a person can get addicted to. I am a person who knows his limits, and can partake in a night of drinking or smoking. But I never drink excessively (I've never lost my memery). If I smoke it's a very rare occasion (now), and I try not to smoke the day after. I introduced my best friend to pot, and he smokes every single day. When we met up after a college break (since he goes to a different uni), he told me "You have to try smoking everyday for a semester." This kid is a smart guy...but it's harder to see anymore.

If you are able to control your habits, than I say do what you want. Don't judge people who smoke occasionally. It's the people who drink/smoke everynight that I'm worried about. But in the end, it's your own life. I don't suggest you do either. And I think drinking is just as bad, and I have another best friend who's gone through that route.

Just a fun fact: You know what most college kids are addicted to (something I'm incredibly addicted to)?

Caffiene.

I tried to be nice, I guess that didn't work. So...

We have a lot of people here who are more talented/nice/cooperative than you are, so we don't really need you. Of course, we'll never really know how true that is because you don't want to release your music, or try to work with us.

I still wish you luck, even though I think you're an ass. That's the kind of guy I am.

You can't catch em all. As long as you recognize them and do something about them, you're okay in my book. When I have time to download the new version and play it again, I will.

I downloaded it some time ago, and just hadn't got around to playing it, till now.

Can't you just compose a tune that you would deem Adventury? If people find what you submitted enjoyable, they will be more prone to contact you.

Now, if your under some contract that states any new music you make is theirs, I can understand your end of the situation. But if that were the case, composing music for one of us wouldn't work.

You also must realise this, this community houses several people with diverse talents. And one of the strenghts of this community, are the people willing to make game music for free. Some of them have gone through college and earned a degree in music. Some of us are not amateurs in the field of music. All of us musicians, though, when offering to compose adventure tunes, have given the community some sort of sample.

That said, I myself, am an amatuer in music. Though, I am fond in it, and posses the ability to hold my own.

Just remember, no one here is trying to insult you. If we're sarcastic, it was in a playful way. We're just trying to help you out. We know how the community works. I, wish you the best of luck in finding someone who wants your music, but I don't forsee anyone serious asking for you to compose something for them when they have so much to choose from, and know what other options sound like.

What I'd suggest you do, if you're really not set on giving out a sample, is this:

Usually when people are making a game, they will make their own thread about requiring music for the game, or will mention it in the production thread of their game. It would be better for you to seek them out. Right now you have it set up where YOU have to like the game to work on it. You've said you don't want to submit to a public audition, well, truth be told. No one wants to submit their work to you, where there's a chance you might reject them. It would just be easier for you to search the production forum, find a game you're interested in, and contact the author.

If you'd like, we have a Tune competition ever week, that you're more than willing to enter. I do hope that we get to hear something from you. Goodluck.

I believe I'm stuck, perhaps from a walking dead.

Spoiler
I am on the tropical Island, and have found everything for the Engineer except for the blue-leggo block. Now here's the problem...I only have a tin of seal, and I'm getting the feeling I needed to use that somewhere in the other part of the game, but I apparently never got around to doing it, and still moved forward. I also never got rid of the seal at the circus.

So is there something I should be looking for, on this island, that I haven't found? Or is this a bug?

So far the game has been enjoyable. The dialog has it's moments. And I enjoy how you mock adventure games. However, until I finish the game, I can't really give a complete review on what I think.

General Discussion / Re:Kill Bill Vol. 2

QuoteIt was stupid, and pretty much retarted to release vol. 1 & 2 they should have been just one movie cause the first to me, IMO is just one big intro!! So hopefully the second one is good! I'm not saying the first one was not good, but I am saying after watching it you feel like all you watched was some long movie trailer! Well atleast thats the way it made me feel!

I believe QT was told he had to edit the movie, but he decided to split it into two volumes instead. However, I think it works better as two movies. The length of the movies combined is probably around three hours and forty-five minutes or more, and while I enjoyed the films, I don't have the patience to sit for that long in a theater. So the split, to me, seemed logical and essential.

The second movie is quite different from the first one, not as much action, but I think more enjoyable. And to the argument that out of order things ruin the suspence. I don't necessarily agree. Because when you see something out of sequence, you can only wonder what must have happened to get to that point.

These movies are pure entertainment to me...that and feet. I think it was mixed well enough with a fun plot, good humour, action, love, and betrayal. I won't say it's the all time greatest movie I've ever seen, it won't make my top ten films, but it'll surely be a movie I'll see a couple more times.

I think the problem Gilbert has in trying to help you is that you're too vague. Perhaps, if he could have more information, as to why your cursor is employing RawDraw. I've read through your post several times, and asked some others to read over it. And quite simply put, no one has been able to decipher what you're saying.

It's also problematic, when your responses to Gilberts help, are sarcastic and belittling. He's trying to help you out, but your post was so unclear he doesn't know from what angle you're comming from. Please try to respect people on these forums. Gilbert is renowned for being one of the most technical helpful members of this forum. So, yes, I'm sure he's programmed in C++ to be such a great help.

Now please clarify what your problem is...and pretend for just a moment that the poeple here not only know C++ but know the ins and outs of AGS. It'll make things easier. Also pretend that everyone is your equal, and things shall go smoothly when asking for help.

If it's logic puzzles, it seems more mouse oriented. Parse is nice, though. If you can pull it off, but it's a lot more work. And I'm not so sure that text is that much more magical than point in click. It could be downright annoying sometimes.

You could always go the crazy route and let the player decide which option he/she/it would prefer.

General Discussion / Re:how old are YOU?

Eight and a three quarters. I was watching Spongebob Squarepants the other day, and it reaches my young adolescent mind. I'm care-free and vivacious, in my youth, but you can expect me to grow up and be bitterly dissapointed with the world as I blossom into manhood.

I eat paste, but only for the protein a young boy needs to keep his body going. I like chocolate milk. My Catholic priest says I'm getting bigger everyday, but I shouldn't tell mommy. If only mommy knew the phycological problems that even me, and eight and three quarter year old boy sees for himself...
