General Discussion / Re:Baby crying help...

I think putting the baby in the washing machine and turning it on, would solve all your problems.

I don't cry too much anymore, but sometimes I'll get that funny feeling in my throat when I'm watching a movie, and my eyes get watery (but not enough for tears).

The last time I remember actually crying (and I'm sure I've cried since then, I just don't recall), was four years ago. I was just going through Confirmation, and our confirmation class made a trip to some camping/cabin type grounds where we were going to spend the weekend. It started out fine...I was hanging out with my friends and the Rabbi and myself were cracking jokes back and forth.

So after a long day, we were all sitting in one room, all of us (there were roughly 20 of us maybe less or more, I can only really remember my good friends from that class). I was telling my Rabbi a dirty blond joke, which he found funny. But he told me not to tell it to our cantor (who was a women, and was sitting close enough to not hear us when her attention was elsewhere). Anyway, me being who I am, a guy who likes to see how far I can take things, I ended up telling the cantor the joke anyway (In truth, though, my mother worked with her, and my mom said later she heard dirtier jokes from the cantor (if only I could remember the joke I told)). So in front of the whole confirmation class, the Rabbi just seemed to snap and started yelling his head off at me. Which was so unlike him, because he's normaly mild mannered, and you'd never expect him to get in such a rage (apparently, though, some other people have related stories of him snapping, so it wasn't that uncommon, I just hadn't been witness to it).

Then there was me...also a mild mannered guy, who never yells. And something about him yelling at me like he did, in front of my whole class got my blood boiling, so I started yelling back, to such a degree that it felt with each word I needed to take breath. So after each of us had said our peace...I started crying in front of our whole confirmation class. I don't like yelling or getting angry, and I respected the Rabbi so much, for him to be yelling at me. So I gave a good sob...you could feel the tension in the room.

So twenty minutes later, it was over, the Rabbi and I sat down and played chess. Then we just started laughing at the whole thing, and apologized to each other (Me for going that step too far, and him for not pulling me aside to discipline me).

It really felt good to cry. It really felt good to yell back, too.

In general I think crying is good for a person every once in a while. I rarely cry now, but everytime I do, it feels really good, afterwards.

It's sad to think that our society views a man in rage above a man who cries.

QuoteUmm... My DVD collection is over 1,000.

Is that 1000 disks, or 1000 titles? Cause I know I've seen several cheap packaged horror films, with like ten movies for five dollars. Just wondering, because 1000 does seem like a fairly big selection.

I'd suggest trying to find some local print screen shirt makers near you and seeing what you can get from them. A small business is more willing to meet a customers needs.

Red Dwarf Season I
Red Dwarf Season II
Red Dwarf Season III
Red Dwarf Season IV
Babylon V Season I
The Music Man
Fiddler on the Roof

And that's all so far...although I do plan on buying the rest of the Babylon series, and I have a few movies in mind, but I'm a very conservative spender, and usually buy books instead of DVD's. As can be seen, I prefer television shows to movies. And I lean towards science fiction. I'm also a fan of musicals, and while I do plan on buying some "regular" movies in the future, I won't until I have enough money to do so.

I hope it wasn't an April Fools joke, because there's 101 bucks down the shitter.

And if it is...Fuck you CJ!

Personally, I think 100 is a little low. Can I pay more? And if I pay more, do I get some sort of benefit package, like signed t-shirts or spit from CJ? Or perhaps I could get a time-share for your house? Oh well, expect 101 dollars from me.

She obviously mispelled rap...she meant wrapped. Black wrapped videos, Makes sense not to like them...if you have dandruff and are giving someone a black wrapped video as a present, your problems becomes fairly apparent.

I'm assuming, and I may be going out on a limb here, white videos are talking about snow. And it would be prejudiced for MTV to show snow, as snowless people aren't represented in the video. So here in Florida, there are no complaints of such things, because you can keep your snow!

I don't think kids ten years old drinking has anything to do with the world "today." I'm almost positive that as long as parents have been getting sloshed kids have also been having there fun. It's not a problem that just suddenly sprung up (if it's even a problem at all). I think that no matter how old you are, there should just be one guideline, drink responsibly. For instance, I like to go out and have fun with my friends and with alchohol. But I always keep tabs on how much I drink, and I've never forgotten a night. The trick is to know your limit between happy drunk and "I'm going to piss my pants drunk, but luckily I won't remember it in the morning." That applies universaly. Whether you're more apt to become drunk as an adult vs. a kid is up for debate. But I'd say if you can't have fun without alchohol or if you're getting drunk by yourself, you have problem no matter how old you are.

As to posting on the forums...I've done this several times, however, I tend to do it when I'm wound down, and am sobering up. Which means I've had my fun. However, if you're idea of fun is getting drunk and then going onto the forums for kicks right after you may have several problems (most of them social issues).

I think one of the most important tricks is to treat yourself for so much work. Say to yourself, "Alright, I'll work on this for an hour, then take a fifteen minute break to do what I want, then go back to it." You could obviously adjust the time to whatever you want, or need. I don't necessarily agree with getting rid of all forms of entertainment, you just have to make it so your focused for a certain lenght of time.

Although, as a guidline, it's probably not good to treat yourself, by allowing you to go on to a chat room. They can just suck your time away easily. Rather, maybe browse a few websites, or play a few short games. I, personally, treat myself to a game of minesweepers/Freecell/Spider/Hearts, as entertainment. Because either game shouldn't take a real long time, and it allows me to relax, but keeps my mind still going for when I go back to work.

Another thing, and I have trouble with this too, but I'm starting to crack down. Never wait last minute. It's such a horrible habit to get into. You should set aside some time each day (or at least weekdays), to do a little studying or homework. That way when your in a situation where you need to buckle down, you'll be more prepared, and should have done some of the assignment earlier.

I think that people tend to be lax, and then they push themselves harder than the norm, which your mind just rejects. It's like excersize...you don't go hold off going to the gym for a month, and then expect to be in peak health condition, able to lift 5000 pounds (exaggeration). The same goes for your mind, you have to train it.

General Discussion / Re:The 'Guess Who' Thread

I haven't done any of them, yet, I'm afraid. I would probably make it really obvious if I were to ever attempt being a mystery guest.

Perhaps there should be some better system of having a random person show up. Otherwise chaos will ensue, as seen above.

Alright, I've got them all.

First off, let me congradulate everyone who made an entry, they all sounded excellent to me. So let me say something about each person's music, and then I'll let you know who the winner is:

Geoffkan - I like the begining, a lot. But then it starts to sound as if the baby is getting sleepy rather than a monster comming out. The parent saving the day theme sounds good, though.

Peter Thomas - The monster theme sounds kind of X-filesish for a while...I liked it. You also made a very good ending, I feel. The only complaint, is perhaps the begining, I just don't get the baby/kid feel with the piano.

Ghormak - The begining is superb. I can just picture a little kid. The monster theme also was fairly convinicing, as was the parent's saving the day theme. Though I felt you kind of ended the whole thing abrubtly.

Migs - While I like the music you made...it didn't really match the competition. It felt more, Fairly tailish then babyish, if you get what I'm saying. It was a good entry, I just didn't feel it met the specifications (sorry <insert sympathetic smiley face>)

So that said the winner is...
Spoiler
Ghormak!!!!1!11!1!!! I think this piece just stood out from the rest. All of the entry's were top notch, but the only complaint I really had about ghormaks, was I wanted more. It was a close one though...and remember, there are no losers. Just people who suX0rs!!!!! (j/k)

A good resource, for graphics. InstaGame! It has character sprites, backrounds, objects, and one MIDI. These will allow you to make a short game, showing you know how to use the engine and shows your ability to come up with some unique plot. Good luck!

I'd compete if I had time...if you're still looking for a side writer during the summer, though. I'm your man. Played all six several times, good for a couple of one liners. Good luck.

Rob Blanc was officially my first game, but I thought it was utter crap, so it wasn't for months later when I stumbled upon Larry Vales. It gave me that gooey warm feeling...like when I stick my hand in the microwave. So through that, I found AGS and quickly fell in love. It inspired me to make Ace Quest...which I did.

Larry Vales, along with snail quests, moose wars, and my own games, is one of the only adventure games that I have on a back-up cd. I still think that Phil Reed hasn't been equaled in the community, as far as comedy.

Edit: Note, ROb Blanc was my first official AGS game...the first every adventure game goes to mixed up mother goose.
